Chapter I Died 7
Chapter 7
The white light in the room where the pack healers put me stayed on day and night, like a cold, relentless sun. Right then, my mate stared at my shattered body, frozen in place. There were still two parts missing: my head and my ankle.
h
ankle. He
Something clicked in his mind, and he quickly examined the skin below my spotted the faint traces of a tattoo, our initials, barely visible without close inspection. The tattoo was red, just like the color of our pack, and it was made by one of the pack’s artisans. I knew Logan would recognize even a fragment of it.
Just then, with one glance, Logan immediately knew why the killer had hidden this part of my body. I knew that it was already lingering on his mind. Living with him for years was enough for me to read his expressions.
Seeing this, he began to back away, muttering, “Impossible, impossible! How could this be her? How could this be
my Luna?”
I stood across from him and said softly, “Why not? That’s me lying there. I thought you never cared. Why are you looking at me like your world crumbled down now, my dear Alpha?” If only my mockery could reach him,
Again, it seemed like he didn’t want to simply believe that it was me because of the tattoo. It wasn’t enough evidence for the Alpha. He needed more proof. So, he turned. and bolted from the room where I was placed. Then he walked to the meeting room where the papers of the evidence were scattered.
He frantically searched the entire room, desperate to look for something. Everyone. just stayed silent as the Alpha convinced himself that the pack healers must be wrong, that I must be kidding around, just merely trying to get his attention.
It took him a couple of minutes before finally, he found our mateship ring.
Logan squinted through the evidence bag where the ring was sealed, trying to spot any engraved marks inside the ring. He grabbed a bright light, and shone it into the ring, inspecting it for what felt like an eternity.
While he was doing all that, I leaned in, curious. The intense light exposed
everything, even the faintest remnants of the engraving. “Logan & Aurora.” The letters were almost worn away, but the barely visible marks at the beginning and end were enough proof that the engraving was once there.
With a loud bang, the light slipped from his hand, hitting the ground and bouncing off his foot. He didn’t even flinch. The Alpha stood there like a scarecrow, holding the ring as if his soul had been drained.
I was taken aback. Did my death really hit him that hard?
Logan returned to the room where my body was located. Each step he took carried so much weight that everyone could feel the intensity in the air. I could not believe it. How could he look so affected when in all the years I was mated to him, he never truly
cared?

Meanwhile, Dimitri waited at the entrance, his expression somber. “Do you believe us now?” He asked.
Upon hearing that, my mate only shook his head; his face looked pale as paper. He seemed lost, and it was obvious he was losing his focus. Seeing how his eyes became dead, I knew his thoughts were running a marathon.
Dimitri continued, “Someone called in with a tip. They found the last bag with the victim’s head and ankle. We’re closer to solving the case.”
“Solving a case? Are you kidding me?” Logan scoffed. “My mate… My mate is dead!” He grabbed Dimitri’s collar. His eyes turned bloodshot, and I saw how his hands. trembled. There was desperation in his voice as he talked, “Why the fuck did the killer do this to her? Fuck!”
At that point, Dimitri tried to push the Alpha’s hand before he frowned and composed himself. He was also shocked at how the case became personal to them, but unlike Logan, he was trying not to be emotional about it.
“Alpha, you should know better than every one of us here. You being the head of this pack, and her being the Luna is enough reason to put her life in danger. We have so many enemies waiting for our downfall, especially yours. You may think she’s just some ordinary she–wolf, but to everyone, and even our rival packs, she’s the Luna, the woman of Crimson Crescent’s Alpha.”
It seemed like my dear Alpha could not grasp what the Beta was saying, but after a while, he heaved a deep breath and looked away from everyone. “Was it me? Did I put her in danger?”
