Chapter 4
Chapter 4 Settle The Score
Nancy caused quite a stir upon her return to the Smith Group. The management underwent a major reorganization, with numerous executives being reassigned. Among them were those who had intended to assert their dominance over Nancy, led by David and Jacob. David’s office was filled with people early in the morning. They pounded the table, kicked the stools, and shouted at the top of their lungs, “I don’t care! I’ve been working for the Smith Group for so many years, and even if I haven’t made any significant contributions, I have certainly put in the effort. Why should my position be taken away? The Smith family must provide me with an explanation. After all the commotion, you meet and reconcile with her, and I’m the one who gets sacrificed. Why is that?” The others also joined in the uproar, demanding an explanation. They were furious, and spittle flew as they shouted at David. Their expressions were terrifying, and they had completely lost their composure. David was cornered by them. “Everyone, please calm down. Calm down.” On the other hand, Jacob sat in the corner, playing with a newly acquired crystal bracelet. He appeared completely indifferent. It seemed like nothing mattered to him. After all, his position as vice chairman was secure. He only cared about himself, not others. David tried his best to appease these people, but deep down, he was actually calm. Regardless of how the personnel changed, as long as he, the chairman, remained in power and his interests were not affected, everything would be fine. In fact, Nancy brought the list of personnel changes to him as soon as possible; this was the result of their discussion. “Uncle, the Smith Group is not the same as before. Our family’s wealth is not as abundant, and we can’t afford to support idle people anymore. In order to save the company, I have already spent most of the money I have accumulated over the years. If we continue to let these parasites erode the interests of the group, then I’m afraid we will have to sell our houses and land. As far as I know, the two of you have just acquired a piece of land in the northern suburbs and want to build a golf course.” Once their personal interests were involved, it was a different story. David, who was originally furious, suddenly changed his expression and immediately agreed with her! The useless employees must be dismissed! Nancy couldn’t be bothered to argue with them. After all, evil people would eventually get what they deserved. She left the company and went straight back home. The Smith residence was also known as the Rose Garden; it was originally a rose park. Because Nancy’s mother and Nancy both loved roses, Nathan Smith bought this piece of land and built a mansion as a residence for the three of them. It had been three years since she last came back, and Nancy unexpectedly felt a bit nervous. Was it because of homesickness? For the past three years, she had been acting recklessly in the name of love. She wondered if her parents would blame her in the afterlife. The roses in the southern city were already in bloom, but in the colder climate of the northern city, they had yet to blossom since she left the Walker residence. Nancy’s eyes dimmed at the thought of that man. Her heart still ached as if it were being torn apart, but since she had made the decision to leave, she had to try to let go. As the car drove into the estate, Nancy couldn’t wait to see the roses. However, when she got out of the car, she found that the roses her father had personally planted had disappeared, replaced by peonies and overgrown weeds. She felt a surge of anger. She could never tolerate someone destroying her rose garden! Did those audacious individuals truly believe she was dead? Suddenly, she heard someone giggle. Nancy turned her head and saw two girls strolling out; they were engaged in lively conversation. They were dressed elegantly and held hands with two gentlemen. The woman leading the way was dressed in a beautiful white lace gown and adorned with a diamond tiara hairpin. She leaned in and boldly planted a kiss on the man’s lips, right in the middle of the day. Suddenly, the man noticed someone nearby and quickly pushed Cerci Smith away. However, as soon as he caught sight of Nancy’s face, his expression completely changed. He stumbled and nearly fell down the steps, eventually landing on the ground. In utter disbelief, he pointed towards a nearby spot and exclaimed, “Nancy… is that really you?” The other three individuals also turned their gazes towards Nancy and were equally astonished. They instinctively covered their mouths with their hands. Cerci couldn’t help but scream, “Are you a human or a ghost?” Nancy responded mockingly, “There’s no need to be afraid if you haven’t done anything wrong. I’ve returned to settle the score. Joshua Reed, Cerci Smith, are you prepared?”
