Chapter 16
In the late evening hours on the outskirts of a military base Morgan, Nicholas, Tyler, and Dan floated down behind the big hanger size building.
“Okay Dan,” Morgan said. “This is your initiation onto the team.”
“What is this place?”
“Military facility,” Nicholas answered. “After everyone settled in here all of the Terran ships were retired and put into storage.”
“Your task is to unlock the doors and fly the ship out of the hanger,” Morgan continued.
“Wouldn’t that be illegal?” Dan questioned.
“Not if they already belong to us.”
“Go ahead,” Nicholas replied. “The guards aren’t patrolling this area.”
In front of them was a small black boxed keypad that Dan placed his hand over where instantly the digital numbers appeared scrambling until each of the five numbers stopped. They heard a beep and the doors slowly slid open.
“He did it,” Tyler said awestruck.
“Of course he did,” Morgan answered.
The four of them walked inside finding a mini scout ship sitting quietly and dormant inside of the silent dark hanger. Dan stood in front of the hatch which automatically opened and they all climbed up the stairs on board. Dan sat down in the captain’s chair looking outside of the cockpit window.
“This is one of the older propulsion models,” Dan said.
“Try the controls,” Morgan said.
Dan felt the joystick handles and inside all of the lights immediately and control panels lit up.
“Whoa!”
“All of the ships respond to Terrans,” Nicholas said.
“Okay, let’s see if I can’t fly this thing outta here. Strap in boys.”
From the overhead console, Dan flipped four switches as everyone else buckled themselves in and sat back. A quiet hum could be heard filling the inside of the ship. Dan pulled on the controls slowly making the ship hover off the ground.
“Not to ruin the fun, but isn’t everyone going to see a ship missing,” Tyler said.
“Yeah, you better turn on the camouflage shield,” Nicholas said.
Dan flipped a switch on the front console to the on position.
“Cloaking shield is up.”
Dan guided the ship out of the hangar as the doors closed behind them.
“Let’s go all out,” Morgan exclaimed. “See what this puppy can do.”
“Alright,” Dan said smiling.
Dan pulled on the controls sending them up into the sky that was a clear night full of stars.
“It’s been a long time since I’ve seen the stars up close.”
“Floor it!” Nicholas proclaimed.
Dan careened the ship sending it flying into the outer stratosphere.
