Chapter 350

There were wet wipes in the glove compartment. He took one out and faced the mirror to clean the cream off his collar.
Lily Jeaned against the car door and maintained as much distance as possible. Her gaze was cold and detached as she watched him.
After wiping his collar, he leaned over and grabbed her hand to clean her fingers.
Her fingers were slender and fair. They turned red from his coughness as he meticulously wiped away the sticky residue.
"I don't need you to buy me another cake."
Jy was no match for him when it came to strength. She stood no chance either when it came to arguing as he acted like he didn't have ears, ignoring everything she said. He started the car and drove toward the city center. Most bakeries were already closed at this hour. They circled for nearly an hour before finding one still brightly lit and open for business.
Xavier opened the car door and stepped out before heading straight into the bakery.
He wasn't worried about Lily running away. They were far from where she stayed with no public transport and few cabs nearby. She would have nowhere to go even if she wanted to leave
Lily had been silent the entire ride. She had indeed considered escaping but gave up when she glanced around the sparse surroundings as the car stopped
Her gaze landed on Xavier as he walked into the bakery. It wasn't common to encounter late-night customers with money to spare. The baker hurriedly tied on an apron and guided Xavier through the options.
He directly picked a black swan cake without asking for her preferences.
He intentionally avoided asking Lily to choose, fearing she might pick a white swan. He didn't want to buy her the same cake Terence had chosen even if he was compensating her!
He paid double for the cake due to the time, but they still had to wait half an hour for it to be ready.
He stepped out of the bakery before he took out a cigarette and placed it between his lips. His dark eyes met Lily's through the car window
She held his gaze for a few seconds betone lowering her head.
He walked to the side of the car before he leaned against the car door and exhaled a swirl of smoke as he rolled down her window.
The cold wind rushed in and dispersed the warmth inside the car. However, the heater in the car kept the chill at bay
Lily couldn't help but glance up at him. His chiseled profile was tightened, and wisps of smoke escaped his thin lips. Neither of them spoke. It was rare for them to meet and remain this peaceful.
Lily found the scene oddly melancholic and tragic while Xavier was pondering about Shane's words earlier. Marriage wasn't just about carrying on the family line. He had never considered such things deeply before, He turned to look at Lily "Lily, do you want a divorce because I didn't allow you to get pregnant?"
g her momentarily st
stunned. It had been long since he had spoken to her so calmly.
The unexpected and serious question caught her off guard, leaving "Tell me. What would it take for us not to divorce? Xavier had no desire to waste time finding another woman to marry.
Although he was calmer now, he still seened crazy in Lily's eyes. How could he possibly think there was still room for negotiations after everything they had been through? She asked rhetorically, "Why don't you tell me? What would it take for us to get divorced? His jaw nightened, and weins bulged on his forehead.
"There's nothing I can do if you won't agree to divorce. But I'm only accepting us living separate lives like we are now. Don't even think about anything else."
She meant him asking her to return to his side to maintain the facade of a normal marriage.
"Do you truly think you'd have a choice if I wanted otherwise?" He crushed the cigarette underfoot and turned around to lean both hands against the cacwindow as he hunched slightly to meet her gaze His calm demeanor carried an unmistakable air of dominance and control.
