Chapter 47 – Oakley

Chapter 47 – Oakley

That was not what I had expected to have happen. At all. I feel awful for Harry. I even feel bad for Lisa. I know what being

rejected reels like. It’s not anything that I want to repeat.

“Why?!” Lisa wails. “Why would you reject me?”

If y

you can’t figure out which one of us it is that you want, then it obviously isn’t me. I will be my true mate’s only choice, not one that she can’t figure out if she wants or not. Harry croaks from the floor, but the look in his eyes is pure malice. “Finish the rejection. I don’t want to feel it when you two f uck.”

“Harry…” she whimpers. “Please.”

“Finish it!” Harry screams at her. “You don’t want me. You wouldn’t have strung me along since you found out about him if you did.” Harry makes a violent gesture towards Bard in the other cell. His anger seems to calm for a second and he looks at her with weary, tired eyes. “I’m tired of feeling like I’m not enough for my mate. It hurts more than anything else in this world. Please, just let me go. Let me move on. And you and Bard can be happy together.”

Bard, who had been silent until now, decides this would be the best time to jump in. “We can be so happy together Lisa. You and me. He’s given us his blessing. All you have to do is reject him.”

I hiss my displeasure at him. “Shut up and let them finish. You’ll have her soon enough.”

Bard holds his hands up in surrender and lets the rest of the scene play out

But Lisa surprises me. She surprises everyone in the cell. “I, Lisa Ivy reject you, Bard Black, as my mate now and forever.”

This time, it’s Lisa and Bard that keep over clutching their stomachs. Lisa’s bawling, curled into the fetal position. Bard is planted face down on the floor, nearly passed out from the pain. “I won’t let you go..” Bard says, his voice coming out in a pained whisper.

“Yes you will,” I hear from behind me and I turn to see Trainer Ethan, Trainer Sophia, Cassie, and Ray at the entrance to the room. It’s Trainer Sophia that speaks. “If the girl says that she doesn’t want you, you will accept that. Because of all the s hit that you put her and Harry through. You will accept her rejection and you will move on with your life. But not in this unit. Not in this castle. I’ve already contacted the command post outside of the Riverdale Pack. They’re on their way here now.”

Throughout Sophia’s speech, Bard had slowly raised to his feet. “Riverdale pack,” he breathes out. That’s the fa rthest north you can go. There’s nothing there but yetis and abominable snowmen. What the f uck am I supposed to do out there?”

“Try to keep p warm and get your head screwed on straight. Finish the da mn rejection so we can let you out. You’ve only got an hour before they’ll be here. Trainer Sophia says.

“You can’t do this! You can’t do this to me!” Bard screams.

“I do believe I already did. And as the Commander of the Continent’s entire armed forces, I can send my soldiers wherever I deem them needed. Now do it!” Sophia says firmly.

“Fine! L, Bard Black, accept your rejection of our matebond, Lisa Ivy, now and forever.” This time, the pain doesn’t seem to

be as bad and within minutes, Trainer Ethan is letting Bard out of his cage.

He hesitates before leaving, looking at Lisa. Heaving out a heavy breath, he says, “I wish you all the happiness in the world, Lisa. You really do deserve it.” And with that, he walks out of the dungeon and to his room to back.

The 3m is silent, except for Lisa’s sobbing. “Harry-” she starts, but Trainer Sophia Interrupts her.

“I’m going to tell you the same thing I told Bard. If the male says that he doesn’t want you, you will accept that. Because of everything that you put him through, you will let him go,” Sophia says.

Lisa nods. “Ok. Just know that I’ll always love you, Harry. Maybe one day you can forgive me. I, Lisa Ivy, accept your rejection of our matebond, Harrison Redclaw, now and forever.”

Harry grunts, his face wincing. The pain of Lisa accepting his rejection seems to be more of an inconvenience to him than the true pain of the matebond severing.

Lisa, on the other hand, screams like she’s cut off a limb. I look at the two of them quizzically, not understanding why they are both reacting so differently.

“It’s based on the depth of their feelings for each other. Seems that he really was Lisa’s love. The one that she should have chosen. And I know that Harry once shared those same feelings. However, it seems that those feelings have been taken out of him by Lisa’s actions. Less feelings equals less pain. More feelings, more pain,” Trainer Sophia tells me.

Well, sh it. That sucks for Lisa and Harry, but it’s good news for me when I have to reject Levi. I feel nothing for him, other than repulsion. I want him gone and out of my life.

Harry is let out of his cell and he hesitates before walking past Lisa. She cries even more as she watches him walk up to Trainer Sophia.

“I just want to let you know that I fully plan on staying on here until the Elite 10 are announced. If I am one of them, I will take my position without you having to worry about me finding my other mate. I have the feeling that they’re a lot more painful then they’re worth,” Harry says.

“Not all of them, Harry. But I understand why you feel that way. I hope that you find true happiness, with us or without,” Trainer Sophia says. She ushers the rest of us out, the two guards for the cells helping Lisa out of the room.

But Trainer Ethan hangs back and gets my attention. “Walk with me for a little bit, Oakley I would like to talk to you.”

Puzzled, I look to Ray, but he just nods, saying “Meet me in the waiting room after?”

“Sure, Is

I say,

still confused as to why Ethan wants to talk to me.

We step out of the dungeon, heading for the running path that goes around the castle. We’re quiet the entire way and I’m feeling really uncomfortable. If we were just going to walk, why was it just me out here and why the hell would the two of us be going for a walk?

Finally. Trainer Ethan breaks the silence. Tve been thinking about pulling you aside and talking to you about this since you got here, but I wasn’t sure how to start the conversation. I still don’t know, so I guess I’ll just have to dive in.”

He takes a breath and I wait, not sure if I’m supposed to help him or just stay quiet. I opt for the quiet option.

He stops in the middle of the path and faces me. “Oakley, you are without a doubt one of the strongest, most talented. wolves that we’ve seen in a long time. You’re smart, quick thinking, a problem solver, and a natural leader, as well as tough as shi t and an amazing fighter.”

I start to thank him, but he holds up a hand to indicate that he’s not finished.

“With that said, I think that you should leave the training for the Elite 10, he says, looking me directly in the eyes. “You could go back to that worthless alpha mate of yours and be the best luna that pack has seen in centuries or you could go with Ray and be worshipped by him for the rest of your life, but pick one and leave.”

My head pulls back, my eyes blinking rapidly as if I’ve been stunned by a physical blow. I’m not even sure how to process this “Wha what I mean, why? Why are you saying this to me? I thought that trainers aren’t supposed to tell us what to

choose.”

He shakes his head. “I’m not saying this as a trainer. I’m saying this as your mother’s rejected mate. Go. Live a happy life. Leave this place in your fearview and never look back. Because the only thing that this path leads to is pain, heartache, and grief.”
