Chapter 27
The guys leave the next day and Amy and Will settle in to relax for a few days. It is Sunday and Amy and Will head to the church for service. They have settled on this church as their own place of worship. This is where Will first tried to get help with his mission and created a scene, although no one seems to remember them. Will has quietly been spreading his message of peace each Sunday. This Sunday, there is a new minister spreading the word. In addition, they are videotaping the sermon. It is a very moving sermon. At the end of the sermon, the preacher calls for anyone who needs God’s hands to heal them to come forward. Multiple people make their way to the altar. Some are suffering from mental issues, some physical. The preacher begins to heal the ones with minor illnesses. Others he simply prays for God’s healing hand.
Amy mentions to Will that this preacher is a follower. Will tries to connect and is surprised when the preacher looks directly at them and stops what he is doing. The preacher walks down to where Amy and Will are sitting, bows down, lowers his head, takes Will’s hand and kisses the back of his hand. Many of those watching this have no idea of what is going on. The preacher gets up, walks to the front of the church and begins to pray.
After the prayer, he looks up and says “Today, I am blessed to have kissed the hand of the Second Coming of Christ! God has granted me the limited ability to heal some of you. This man has powers that we can only dream of. He has healed hundreds in this very church. His words are studied by many and the major religions have given him the title of Second Coming of Christ. The Catholic Church is going to canonize him very soon, even though he is not dead.”
There are over a thousand people in the church; they are all watching Will, as the preacher continues his speech.
“I ask this Man of God, to come forth and spread the word.”
Will stands up and the church grows even quieter. He walks to the altar and takes the hand of the preacher and immediately senses that his body has cancer.
“Thank you for the invitation to speak. Before I do, I would like to ask you a question, in private.”
“Please, sir, we have no secrets before God in this church. What is it you wish to say?”
Will asks the preacher, telepathically, if he is aware he has cancer. The preacher turns white as the blood drains from his face. His knees give out and Will catches him, leading him to a stool where the preacher sits down.
The preacher asks out loud, “Are you sure?”
“Yes.” Will turns to the congregation. “One of the gifts that God has given me is the ability to tell if there is an illness in the body. I have just told our guest preacher that he has cancer. Apparently, he was not aware of it. Let us pray for all of those that are in need of God’s healing hand.”
As the congregation bows their heads in prayer, Will places his hand on the preacher. The room fills with a warm glow and then fades away. Several members of the congregation begin to cry, some stand as if to flex muscles or check out their joints for pain. Soon, cries can be heard from the members as they realize they no longer hurt or can now move arms and legs that haven’t worked in years. Tears of joy can be seen on the faces including the preacher. Will looks into the camera and tells those that are watching to attend the evening services if they can. He will heal those that are in need.
That night, there are thousands in attendance. Will leads the congregation in prayer and song. His message reaches tens of thousands with TV coverage. As the service progresses, Will heals those that are in attendance. Again, the TV viewers witness the miracles. Around the world, there is a growing peace as well as a desire to see the Second Coming of Christ. World leaders begin to make plans. Ambassadors’ to the United Nations are summoned and told to get a hold of the man they call the Second Coming of Christ.
A few weeks go by when Amy receives several emails from the Baptist and Southern Baptist organizations as well as the Catholic and Protestant churches. They are all basically asking the same thing, can Will attend their services around the country. Will agrees and over the next several months, his message is heard by millions. He is beginning to make a difference as the crime rate drops, stories of people helping others begin to lead the news broadcasts. The law enforcement community starts to report that major crime is down around the country by 70 percent with some areas report zero crime for the first time since the record keeping began.
Doctors are also reporting a high number of what they call miracles. Cases where their patients have had signs of cancer or other major illnesses that have been under treatment for months or even years are now free of the diseases. Even birth rates are up and abortions are down. Lifetime criminals are turning themselves into the police and turning in others that they have worked with in crime for years.
One Sunday after services in a large church in South Carolina, the FBI asks to speak to Will.
“Mr. Smythe, My name is Agent Johnson. We met a while back. I have a message from the President, sir.”
“Hello, Agent Johnson. What does the President have to say?”
“Well, sir, the United Nations would like you to come to New York and meet with the Ambassadors from around the world. They would like for you to be there on the 27th of August in 3 weeks if that is okay?”
“That will be fine. Thank you for letting me know.”
Later that evening, Will tries one of his new abilities, a group conversation with the world.
“Please, if you can hear me, I have a request. On August 27th, in about 3 weeks, I will be speaking to the UN Ambassadors. I will be using this platform to spread the message from God. I ask that you contact as many people as possible both in government and your local communities and have them listen to the speech. There is no need to get in touch with me. Just do what you can.”
Amy is sitting across the RV from Will and a smile comes on to her face.
Later that night, Amy says “Will, your message was received. John, Jennifer, Bob, and Bruce just let me know that they heard you loud and clear. Others at the apartment building have also stated that they just heard from you.”
“Well, at least we know that I can reach that far.”
While Bruce and Bob are in Colorado, Will has been thinking of how he removed the capabilities from Hal by touching him. He also wonders if he can give the capabilities to others.
“Amy, I have been wondering about what happened to Hal. Why was I able to take his abilities away from him? Can I give or increase the abilities of others? If so, how far can I go?”
“Honey, there has been one amazing thing after another with you. I have no idea what you are truly capable of. Every time we get into a situation, your abilities grow. You are being given gifts that no man has ever had. You have yet to figure out what you can do yourself. Hal was a danger to those around him. He was like a child with a dangerous weapon. You did what had to be done and took that weapon away from him. As to can you give others the same capabilities, you will have to try and see. I don’t know how but all you can do is try. I do know this, you are but one man and if you are to save the world, I think you will need a lot more help.”
“When Bruce and Bob get back, I am going to see if I can give them the same capabilities that you have.”
Bruce and Bob arrive early the next week. Just in time for all of them to head to New York and the United Nations building.
While sitting around the campfire the first night, Will decides to approach Bruce and Bill about trying to give them some more capabilities.
“Guys, you know that when Hal and Jessie were in Kansas, that Hal kind of got out of control. In the end, I took away his capabilities. Lately, I have been wondering if I can also give capabilities to others. I would like to try and give you both some more capabilities. I am not sure how, but I thought I would do the same thing I did with Hal, but instead of taking something away, I would try giving each of you something new, if that is all right?”
Bruce’s eyes light up. “You mean you might be able to give us the ability to control people?”
“That is what I would like to do, but first I want to see if you can read minds. Then place thoughts into the minds. If all goes well, by the time we get to New York, you should be on par with Amy.”
Bob, looks at Bruce then Will and says “I am game. If it works, that means we will be better able to help you in bringing peace to mankind. If it doesn’t work, at least you will know that too.”
“The first thing I want to try is to give you both the ability to read people’s minds. When I first started out, it was like hearing one side of a phone conversation. It took some time to be able to determine whose mind I was listening to. What I did was look at each person and soon I was able to match that person with the thoughts. Bruce, let’s try you first. I am going to hold your hand and see if I can give you the capability. It may not work, or it may take time. You won’t be able to read our minds, so you will probably have to walk around the campground and see if it works. Ready?”
“YES!!!”
Will takes Bruce’s hand and starts thinking about how to pass the capability of reading minds to him. Nothing seems to happen and he is about to let go when Will feels a slight tingling in his hand. Bruce breaks contact and rubs his hand while looking at Will.
“That felt like an electric shock. What did you do?”
“I was experimenting with how I thought I could pass the abilities to you. Are you okay?”
“Yea, it was just a surprise that’s all. Do you think it worked?”
“Only way to find out is to go out and see. There should be some people at the pool or recreation center.”
With that, Bruce gets up and starts walking to the pool area, he turns around and says, “I’ll be back in a bit.”
“Well one down, Bob, you want to try it or wait until we find out about Bruce?”
While Bob, Amy, and Will were discussing what to do next, Bruce was at the pool.
“WOW, I can hear all of their thoughts.” He says to no one in particular.
“Will, it worked! I can hear their thoughts. How do I determine who I am listening to again?” Bruce says to Will telepathically.
Will replies, “Just look at their faces, one at a time. Their thoughts will come to you. It takes some practice.”
Bruce went back to looking at the people at the pool and reading their minds. After a while, he was getting pretty good at it. While Bruce was sitting there jumping from one person to another, Bob showed up with Amy and Will. Bob was getting the hang of the mind reading and Will decided it was time for them to both learn how to control the minds of others as well. He took Bruce’s hand and passed the thoughts to him. The shock was expected this time and Bruce didn’t overreact to it, Bob was next. The two of them started with the kids and had them getting out of the pool, asking their mothers for a drink and saying “please”. The moms were looking at each other with a weird look. Then it was the mothers’ turn. They got up and jumped into the pool to play with their kids. Everyone was enjoying themselves.
The next day, the four of them headed to New York. Each night they would stop and Will would introduce them to more capabilities. The limit seemed to be life and death which suited Will. He had only used those capabilities in anger. Amy was able to pick up healing. Both Bruce and Bob didn’t seem to catch on with being able to determine illness in people and were happy with being able to read minds and control the thoughts of others. Amy was very happy to be included in the process. She also had a surprise for Will.
That night, while they were sitting around the campfire, Amy asked Bruce and Bob to practice their abilities to read a body. Both of them were a little confused as they had discussed not being very good at it. But Amy had a way of getting what she wanted from these two. They both placed their hands on Amy’s shoulders and tried to concentrate on Amy’s health. Bob was the first to sense it with Bruce only a few seconds behind him. They both looked at Amy and then asked Will to see if he could find the same thing. Will came over and put his hand on Amy’s head and he let out a yell that was heard all over the campground.
“YOU’RE PREGNANT!” shouted Will.
“Yes, hon, we are going to have a son. Is that okay?”
“Okay, that’s great!!! I’m going to be a father!”
By this time most of the campground knew and fellow campers were making their way to the soon to be new parents. It was after midnight before Amy and Will were able to step inside their RV.
It was mid-morning on Sunday before Amy and Will crawled out of bed. The meeting at the United Nations was scheduled for Tuesday morning and Will needed to work on his speech. Nothing like waiting until the last minute, Will thought and then Amy walked over with a cup of coffee. All thoughts of the speech went out the window and he touched her hand to take the coffee. He could feel the life growing in her. Their son was alive and growing. It was afternoon before Will sat down again to work on his speech.
Sunday evening Amy and Will attended a local church for evening services. Will was unknown here, but his message was being delivered. Love was everywhere. The parishioners didn’t have a negative thought among them.
Monday morning found Will practicing his speech. Amy, Bruce, and Bob were his audiences. That afternoon they all lounged around the pool and relaxed. If things went as planned, Will’s message would be spreading around the world. God’s task for Will would be accomplished.
Tuesday morning found Amy, Bruce, Bob and Will in the General Assembly Hall of the United Nations. This gold hue room with rows and rows of tables and seats for each nation stood before them. Will was introduced to the current President of the United Nations by the US Ambassador. Will watched in awe as the 192-member counties ambassadors filed into the hall. People from all nations filed in to hear Will, the Second Coming of Christ speak to them. The assembly was called to order and Will was introduced.
“Around the world, many of us believe in a supreme being. He is called God or Jehovah, He Who Is, Allah, Elohim, Hrahman and by many other names, but one thing is clear, there is a supreme being which is worshipped by billions of people. As I am a Christian, I call him God and he has given me a mission, to save mankind…”
During Will’s speech which lasted for 45 minutes, Will is constantly sending his message of peace to all who are watching the speech. In the end, there was a standing ovation that lasted almost as long as the speech itself. People from around the world heard about the speech. Ambassadors from around the world came to Will and his followers, seeking to find out more and to meet this man of God. As they came up to him, Will sensed the needs. Some of the Ambassadors were very ill, some had very negative thoughts.
As each Ambassador came up to Will, he would shake hands. When he sensed that there was illness he would discreetly ask if the Ambassador was aware of the illness. If they answered yes, Will would cure them. If they answered no, he would tell them that they should see their doctor and they had an illness. He would then tell them to come and see him when they had talked to their doctors. Word quickly spread over the next few weeks among the United Nations staff, but that was not the big news. Along with the healing of the Ambassadors, there were other changes in the home countries. Violence was down dramatically. Acts of kindness, even among warring factions, was up. Peace was beginning to take hold all around the world.
Will was not sitting back idle. During this time, he was actively working with Ambassadors from around the world, developing a master peace plan. His contact with other followers allowed him to implement changes in countries faster than the politicians could. Within months, the earth was in a period of peace that it had not seen since mankind kept records. All of the sword rattlings stopped, except in one country, North Korea.
During that time, Will had other issues to deal with. About eight months or so after the United Nations speech, Amy woke Will around 3 am. She was having cramps and was sweating a lot. At first, both she and Will thought it was something she ate, but they have had hot dogs over a campfire many times. Just as Amy was starting to feel a little better, another bout of cramps took hold. Will could see her lower stomach contract and he could sense the newborn trying to get out.
“Amy! You are in labor. We have to get you to the hospital, now!”
They had prepared for this. The bags were packed and in an empty closet. The GPS had the hospital address entered and saved. Within 15 minutes, they were in the car. Will called Bruce and Bob and told them they were headed to the hospital.
One thing Will was not is calm. His driving was a little excessive. In fact, too excessive as he soon had the red and blue lights of a New Jersey State Trooper flashing in his rearview mirror. Most people would have pulled over, but Will was not like most people. He connected with the trooper and had him come alongside. Will placed the thought in the trooper that his wife was in labor. The trooper told him to follow him and with lights and siren blaring, Amy and Will were escorted to the emergency room. They were met by the ER staff and Amy was whisked away.
Now it was Will’s turn. The trooper came up to Will with his ticket pad out.
“License and registration please.”
“Yes, officer. The registration is in the car.”
They walked over to the car and Will grabbed the registration and insurance paperwork from the glove box.
“Here you go, sir.”
“Mr. Smythe, do you still live in California?”
“No, I moved to Paradise, Colorado a while back. But I travel a lot and haven’t changed the address or gotten a new driver’s license.”
“I see. You do realize that this license is about to expire?”
“I have had other things on my mind lately. I will get that taken care of as soon as we get back to Colorado.”
“Are you on business or pleasure?”
“Business, I spoke at the United Nations a few months ago and have been working with them on a new peace plan.”
“Wait a minute, Smythe? Are you the one that gave the speech about saving mankind?”
“Yes, sir, you heard about it?”
“Ever since that speech, we have had a lot of changes in New Jersey. The major crime rates are down. Now-a-days we spend most of our time on traffic and other non-emergency matters. I used to spend 80 percent of my time handling drug and gang-related shootings. In the last few months, we haven’t had any drug or gang-related activities at all. I am not sure how you did it, but New Jersey and from what I hear, almost every state has had a major decrease in crime. Your mission to save mankind is working, if you ask me.”
“That is great to hear. I have been so busy; I don’t get to follow up with the news. If you don’t mind I would like to go see my wife, if we could get the ticket written that would be great.”
“I’m not going to write you a ticket, although, it would give me some paperwork to do and help pass the time. Let’s go see how your wife is doing.”
With that, they both head to the emergency room.
Will and the trooper walk into the emergency room just as Amy is being taken to delivery. Will thanks the trooper and runs after Amy.
Will is still dressing in the hospital gown, the nurse is putting on his mask as they enter the delivery room. The doctor walks in takes one look at Amy and quickly puts on his gown and gloves. With a wild scream, Amy pushes and the baby’s head emerges, the doctor is there to guide it out and into the world.
The head no sooner emerges and the baby takes a deep breath and screams at the top of his lungs. Shortly thereafter Amy is given their son, all 21 inches, 7 lbs. 12 oz., healthy baby boy.
The nurse asks Amy if they have a name for the baby. Amy looks at Will. Will had asked Amy if they could name their son, John. He explained the John Washington was an FBI agent assigned to Will when he first learned of his ability and that he died saving the Washington Monument. Will considered him a friend and he was holding John when he died. Amy said she would be honored to have their son named after such a friend.
With that, the nurse fills out the paperwork for John Washington Smythe. Will is on cloud nine. Once he is out of the delivery room, he does his first personal group contact. He tells the world that he has a healthy baby boy, named John Washington Smythe. For the next hour, he is kept busy with congratulations, all telepathically of course, except for one. The New Jersey State Trooper arrives with a bouquet of flowers for Amy and a cigar for Will.
Later that morning, Bruce and Bob arrive at the hospital. After a quick visit with Amy and a peek at John Smythe, they sit down with Will in the waiting area. It is decided that it is time to return to Paradise.
Amy and the baby are released a couple of days later, with a clean bill of health. Bruce, Bob, and Will pamper Amy and Johnny until she finally has enough and sends them outside to prepare the RVs for the return trip to Paradise. Early the next morning, the three RVs leave New Jersey and head west to Colorado. There is a need to join the others with the World Peace Plan being designed by Will and the various Ambassadors at the United Nations, the expansion of the living quarters and Will’s desire to start his own church and become a minister.
Paradise is growing, not only was work being completed on the new apartment complex but Paradise itself was growing. Businesses were expanding and new businesses were opening. Construction of new homes has started all over town. People from all over the country were moving to Paradise. Growth was not limited to Paradise; Colorado is growing as well.
It takes a couple of days for Amy and Will to get settled in with the baby and all the visitors. Nights are also an issue. Will tries to help, but little Johnny only wants mommy. Their family routine takes a little getting used to. It’s Wednesday afternoon when Will takes a walk to see Pastor Jones.
“Will, so good to see you. How is Amy and little John?”
“Doing well, Pastor. How have things been here?”
“So busy, between the church and the auditorium I am very busy. We are getting so many requests for you to visit churches around the world. Right now, I just tell them there isn’t any time. I have been thinking of getting another pastor to help out. I also have to get some more church staff to keep things running.”
“We can help with the staff. I have a lot of people that are good at doing just about anything. Just let me know what you need. As for the pastor, I wanted to talk to you about something. Do you have a few minutes?”
“Will, I will always have time for you. What is on your mind?”
“I have been thinking about… about,” Will has a hard time bringing it out.
“About what Will? Remember, I can’t read minds like you can.”
“I have been thinking about becoming a minister. I still feel that I need to keep the message in front of the people and to spread the message more. I thought as a minister, I would be better accepted and be able to reach more people. Maybe even televise the services.”
“Will, you are the Second Coming of Christ, there is no need for you to become a minister. In fact, I am pretty sure that no school would take you once they find out who you are. As a minister, your reach would be limited. As it is now, you can go when and where you want. Your work with the UN is a primary example of what I am talking about. Do you think they would have invited me to talk, or even the Pope, to speak at the UN, but you were, no, Will, you do not need to be a minister. You are God’s chosen one.”
“But, I don’t feel like my work is done. I haven’t heard from God that I did well, I can’t tell about all the other countries and I don’t know if they have gotten the message or not. How will I know when I am done?”
“You may never be done. Only God will know. It may be that your mission will be passed to others after you are gone. It is not for you to decided or know. God will let you know when the time is right.”
“So, what do I do? I am at a loss. Up until the UN speech, I had an idea of what I was aiming for. I needed to reach the world. I had to get the world at peace. Except for North Korea, the reports I have heard indicate that the world is mostly at peace. Military conflict is nonexistent. Crime is down, people are helping each other out of the goodness of their hearts. Christian programs are reaching more people than ever before. Church attendance is higher than ever before. The Pope has called and says that attendance is approaching all-time highs with some churches reporting over 80 percent attendance. What is left?”
“Will, when was the last time you asked God?”
“You mean prayed?”
“Prayer is the way some people talk to God. Others just hold a one-way conversation and others still just think about what they would say. Whatever works best for you? If you need the church, then attend a service or sit by a campfire, kneel by the bed tonight, whatever works for you.”
“Can you help?”
“No, Will, I can’t. Speaking to God is personal. Open your mind, He will hear you.”
Will stands up to leave and says, “Thank you, I guess. Will I see you on Sunday?”
“Of course and I will find some time to stop by before then to see Amy and the baby.”
“I know we would be happy to have you stop by. Until then, thanks.”
Will walks over to the park across from the church and takes a seat under a big oak tree.
“Lord, I am lost. I don’t know what to do. The world is at peace as best as I can tell. What else do you want me to do? Help me to understand.”
Will sits in the park till dusk. Amy finally contacts him telepathically to make sure he is okay. He finally heads home, not sure if God heard him or not. That night Will has a rough night sleeping, but God does not answer his prayer.
