Chapter 77
Chapter 77
I held the warm cup and gazed quietly at the bustling street outside the window. In my mind, I replayed everything that had happened since my rebirth, as if it was all expected, yet gradually beyond my control.
At that moment, a black Bentley screeched to a halt outside the café. Frederic got out of the car and exchanged a glance with me inside the café.
Afterward, he had the driver leave first and then walked into the coffee shop.
“A cup of black coffee,” he ordered as he passed by the
counter.
Black coffee was Frederic’s favorite. He never changed his taste since I knew him, whether he was a student or working. Black coffee has a good refreshing effect.
“How come you’re drinking coffee here?” Frederic sat down opposite me. He was wearing a gray and white turtleneck cashmere sweater inside and a long black coat outside today. His model–like figure was very pleasing to the eye.
From the moment he walked in, those young female shop assistants kept looking over here. Someone even took out their phone and secretly took a picture of Frederic.
I answered lightly, “I was passing by and wanted to have a drink, so I came down for a cup.”
Frederic smiled slightly. His black coffee arrived as well. The two of us sat there, silently drinking coffee together.
“If I hadn’t met you, I probably wouldn’t like drinking this bitter and dark thing,” I suddenly exclaimed with deep emotion.
“Hmm?” Frederic seemed to be waiting for me to continue speaking.
“Before I met you, I liked to eat desserts and drink milk tea. Later, I found out that you seemed to really like drinking black coffee, so I tried it too. I always thought that if we had the same preferences, the distance between us would be closer, and we would have more topics to talk about in the future.” I recalled those innocent and passionate memories and smiled. “Even with clothes, I learned everything from you, trying hard to make myself more compatible with you.”
Frederic’s eyes were calm. He seemed unaffected by my
emotions.
I sighed. “Ah, it took me ten years to realize one thing, that is, you can’t force love.”
“Do you regret it?” Frederic asked me calmly for the first time as we chatted. “If you had chosen someone else, you wouldn’t have wasted these ten years.”
“What do I have to regret?” I answered with relief. “In the process of liking you, I also experienced the feeling of joy, longing, and feeling that the world is beautiful for one
person. In the end, I also learned to let go, isn’t it worth it?”

Suddenly, I had a flash of inspiration and added another question. “Don’t you have this feeling when you are pursuing that female college student now? This is the feeling of loving someone.”

The originally harmonious atmosphere was disrupted by my tactless question. Frederic’s gaze turned colder and he replied, “No.”
I thought it shouldn’t be that answer. I wondered for a few seconds, but then I figured it out. Maybe the time hasn’t come yet. As an authority figure, Frederic must have seen things differently from me, a bystander.
“Oh, I see.” I changed the subject, “By the way, your dad said he wants me to work in the company. I think it’s a good idea. Can you arrange a position for me?”
“Join the Hudson Group?” Frederic frowned.
“Yeah, what’s up? Is it not allowed?” I asked intentionally. Whether it was allowed or not, I didn’t care. I just thought Tristan made a lot of sense. I needed to find something to occupy myself.
“What position do you want?” Frederic didn’t directly refuse, instead he asked me.
I pondered for a moment and said, “Anyway, it shouldn’t be a grunt work position at the grassroots level. I have to learn something.”
