Chapter 76
Chapter 76
I looked at Janessa’s happy face and all the words got stuck in my throat. For a moment, I couldn’t say anything. After a while, I managed to say, “Congratulations!”
“Syl, would you accompany me to the hospital for a prenatal check–up in a few days? I haven’t gone to the hospital since I found out I was pregnant. I heard from others that I need to register for medical records and such.” Janessa enthusiastically talked to me about various things related to pregnancy. However, my mind was filled with images of Leonel and another woman showing affection toward each other.
If I told Janessa the truth now, there would only be two outcomes. The first one is that she would be angry and in pain, and choose to have an abortion and break up with Leonel. The second one is that she would choose to forgive Leonel, whether it’s because of their love or because of the baby.
In short, all of this would have caused great harm to Janessa.
“Okay, then you tell me one day in advance.” I was a bit confused. After agreeing casually, I got up and said goodbye. “Take good rest. I have something to do and need to go back.”
Janessà pouted unhappily, “No way, you only sat for ten

minutes!”
“Jan, don’t tell Leonel about your pregnancy yet. Let’s plan something special and add some ceremony to it, what do you think?” I thought for a moment and added.
Janessa didn’t doubt him and immediately agreed. “Okay! I’ll set the time and let you know when the time comes!”
After I made an “ok” gesture, I quickly left Janessa’s house.
Back in the car, I sat for a while before my mood calmed down. Greta, Cecelia, and Janessa were all friends who I considered as close as sisters. In my heart, they were like my family. I really couldn’t accept anyone hurting them.
Just as I was about to leave, Leonel’s Chevrolet appeared not far away. He got out of the car, holding a white bag and looking a bit anxious.
“Leonel!” I called out.
When he saw me, Leonel was surprised at first, but then he walked over and greeted me. “Syl, are you here to visit Jan at my house?”
Leonel actually had a good temperament. Although his family background was not as good as Janessa’s, they looked very compatible. He looked very refined and upright.
“Um, didn’t you go to work? Why did you come back?” I asked.
“Isn’t it almost noon? I’m afraid Jan is too lazy to cook for
herself, and takeout is not healthy, so I came back to make her some food. Do you want to eat with us?” Leonel picked up the bag in his hand. “There’s beef and oyster.”
I didn’t know what to say. I looked at Leonel’s smiling face and didn’t feel any insincerity. He was really good to Janessa, but how could a man like him be two–timing?
I couldn’t express how I felt inside and forced a smile while shaking my head. “Next time. I have something else to do. Bye.”
“Okay.” Leonel waved at me and left.
I drove away, starting to doubt if true love really existed in this world. I used to firmly believe that Emilia was Frederic’s true love, but in my previous life, I died too early and never had the chance to see how their story ended. What happened to them after they got together? After one, two, three, ten, or twenty years, were they still in love?
Can Frederic’s love for Emilia last a lifetime?
Is it possible that they were very much in love at the beginning, but gradually lost their feelings? In the end, they became like most couples, strangers and full of conflicts.
With such a confused mind, I drove around the streets aimlessly. Eventually, I ended up at Encounter Café.
Emilia had long since stopped working here. It was meaningless for me to come here, but I still pushed open the door and ordered a cup of black coffee.
