Chapter 60
Chapter 60
After Janessa left, Greta, Cecelia, and I were chatting together. It was half an hour later when we finally saw Leonel and his parents appear together.
Leonel knew that we had a good relationship with Janessa, so he came over with his parents and greeted us, “Syl, Greta, Celia, you guys are here.”
“We would definitely come. Jan’s engagement is a big deal,” Greta replied.
My attention, however, was on Leonel’s parents. Leonel’s father was fine, with a smile on his face, but Leonel’s mother seemed unhappy.
Today was a good day for Leonel, how could she not be happy?
Janessa also appeared with her parents and walked toward us.
Leonel quickly greeted Janessa’s parents and smiled at Janessa. Janessa also smiled back.
Greta, Cecelia, and I also greeted Janessa’s parents. We were all quite familiar with Janessa’s parents, so there was no sense of distance. However, today was our first time meeting Leonel’s parents, and I guess it was only Janessa’s second or third time meeting them as well. I heard they have been staying in their hometown, which is a bit far from us.
After exchanging greetings, Janessa and Leonel went to chat with their respective parents. I sighed and said, “Why do I feel like Jan’s future mother–in–law isn’t very easy to get along with?”

“One look at her face and you could tell she was a mean woman,
Janessa will regret it in the future.” Greta never agreed with Janessa getting married now. Greta always said that Leonel’s career was going nowhere, and when they got married, he couldn’t even afford a slightly fancy wedding. What benefits could Janessa possibly have being with him?
Cecelia whispered, “This is Jan’s engagement banquet, you should still bless Jan.”
Greta and I exchanged a glance, both feeling helpless.
Marriages that are mismatched in terms of social status often encounter problems easily.
At twelve o’clock noon, the banquet began. Greta, Cecelia, and I were enjoying our meal. Frederic and his group, however, remained seated at another table and did not come over, but I didn’t mind.
After the engagement banquet, Cecelia immediately rushed back to work at the company, while Greta received a phone call from her family urging her to go back home, saying there was something going on. I was pulled aside by others for a chat for a while, and only left after saying hello to Janessa.
Before leaving, I went to the restroom. Just as I walked out, I saw Frederic’s figure appearing not far away in the hallway. Emilia was standing next to him, wearing the uniform of Peak Restaurant.
“If you were short of money, you could have told me. The job here wasn’t suitable for you,” Frederic looked at Emilia. His voice was somewhat muffled.
I tried to concentrate and listened attentively.
“Mr. Hudson, I had already rejected you. We were people from different worlds, completely incompatible. And I had a boyfriend.

Please, kindly refrain from appearing suddenly in front of me like this,” Emilia’s voice remained as clear and pleasant as ever.
“I have also said that there is never anyone or anything I cannot obtain.” Frederic’s tone suddenly grew heavy. “I have given you many chances already. Do not continue to test my patience.”
I shook my head. Frederic’s personality would scare her.
Sure enough, Emilia asked with a tearful voice, “So what do you want? I know I can’t provoke you, but I can hide!“.
“You’re so naive. Where can you hide?” Frederic unexpectedly laughed. He found Emilia’s overestimation of herself amusing, bringing some amusement to his life.
Emilia wanted to say something else, but Frederic had already given her an ultimatum. He said, “I’m giving you a week to break up with him, otherwise you’ll face the consequences.”
After saying that, Frederic left.
Emilia stood helplessly in place, her shoulders shrugging up and down, seemingly crying. I didn’t go to comfort her, but instead left from the other side.
When I arrived downstairs, Frederic vas already waiting for me in the car. I got into the car with a calm expression. “Let’s go home.”
I seemed calm, but in reality, I was not. I realized that I didn’t truly have peace and acceptance. In my previous life, I only witnessed Frederic’s crazy love for Emilia, but I didn’t see the little details between them with my own eyes. Now, I finally saw some of it.
I have to say, I still felt a wave of bitterness. A familiar sense of jealousy lingered.
