Chapter 58: Feeling Regrettable
*Malik*
I watched happily as Mya walked up the stairs to where I was sitting with some of my men surrounding me. As soon as they saw that I wasn’ t interested in what they were saying now, the huddle parted to look at the woman coming their way.
“Ah, Mya. I am very happy to see that you have accomplished your mission so well.” I complimented the woman easily.
She frowned, seemingly unhappy with herself. Not that it was any of my problems. She had done what she needed to do. That was all I could ask from her. Ha! I knew that wasn’t true as soon as I had
thought it.
The woman came towards us slowly with the king’s Luna in her arms. She was slow to set the girl on the floor in front of where I was sitting. As soon as she set her down, she raised again while refusing to look down at Riley as she stood there.
My eyes narrowed at the sight of her hesitance. Hopefully, she wasn’t thinking of going back on the mission. I didn’t want to get rid of another person for trying to rebel against me.
“I’m glad someone here knows how to get things done,” I said happily

to Mya. “It was great to hear that you were on your way back. You seem to be doing alright… Did you encounter any trouble on your way out of the castle?”
She shook her head, letting my grin widen even further. “I was quick to kill the tracker they had trailing me. After that, it was all smooth. sailing.”
“Wonderful!” I smiled at the woman. Hoping that if she saw me so excited the doubt in her mind would fade. I crouched down, seeing that it wasn’t helping her state of mind. Inspecting the goods that she provided me.
“I want you to promise me that you won’t hurt Riley at all.” From where I was crouched down inspecting the Luna, I looked up at Mya with a frown. She crossed her arms over her chest as if she was taking
her stand.
I stood again, eyeing the she-wolf in front of me. “Excuse me?”
Who was she to make me promise anything? It wasn’t her job to think. this hard. All she was meant to do was to bring N i c o a ‘ s mate to me and then find her place somewhere far from me. For her to come and demand things from me was aggravating.
However, making meaningless promises wouldn’t kill me. Even if I was to allow her this one ‘promise’, there was nothing she could do if I
decided I didn’t care if I broke my word.
“Riley was supposed to be just a decoy, you had said so yourself,” she said. She seemed to be serious about all of this. Would it be rude to laugh in her face for this? “She’s just here to ensnare Nicolas, then she should be allowed to be safe.”
I nodded slowly, showing that I was aware that was what I said from the beginning. My eyes rolled, but I turned away to the guards behind. her to see if they also felt my annoyance.
They watched on without a word or expression out of place. Something I couldn’t quite be mad at, since they were trained to stay quiet.
I turned back to the she-wolf demanding things of me. She looked at me with a stubborn expression. “That was what you said. You do not need to hurt her, so I want you to promise me that you won’t do anything like that.”
My head bobbed in a compliant nod, however I didn’t say that out loud. A smile on my face, to which her stubborn stance deflated. Happy that she got what she wanted.
I couldn’t say I was too surprised to see that Mya had found at connection with the girl she was supposed to be spying on. She was only a woman and it was easy for their hearts to be swayed by someone they were supposed to be pretending to be friends with.
This was something I had expected from her and that I planned around. I would just have to get her out of the main base so she wouldn’t have any chances to change her mind. The best way I could think of doing that would be dangling the prize she earned in front of her

“Your stepfather will be treated, as I have promised you,” I said while eyeing the girl with a well-put-together smile. I would have to show nonchalance while talking to this one.
She let out a sigh of relief, happy to hear that I wasn’t all talk. It was easy to spare a doctor here and to give away a treatment there. As long as I get what I need for my own family, nothing else really matters.
“Thank you, Malik. You don’t understand how much this means to me,” she seemed to be on the verge of crying now. She was looking up at me with an appreciative gaze.
Though I did feel her pain, since my family was hurting as well, I just didn’t care to hear her grovel to me. It was a transaction. I didn’t do a thing out of my kindness. I didn’t care to hear her s o b stories when I had enough on my own.
I sighed at having to deal with this girl’s emotions. “Now, I will give you a handsome amount if I don’t have to see you again anytime soon. How does that sound?”
Mya nodded, frowning as she looked back down at the girl at our feet. I c**d my head to the side as I watched her dwell on her recent choices.
I wasn’t going to change what I wanted just because she was remorseful for helping. Not to mention, the guards behind me were ready to put up a fight if she tried anything.

Finally, deciding to play the cards she was dealt, Mya turned away. Leaving Riley all for me to do as I wish.
