Chapter 10
Chapter10 Niall’s Past
As Carlisle got into the car, Helene couldn’t help but ask, “What did you talk about with them?”
“Nothing much. Just reached out to a friend I know to find out the situation.”
“You made the police bring them here?” Helene pointed at the family of three who had just entered the police station.
“Who are they?”
“That’s the family who occupied my apartment.”
“Oh, maybe they reported to the police, so the police brought them in to gather information.”
Helene thought Carlisle’s explanation made sense, so she didn’t ask further.
At home, Helene received a call from the police station, informing her that the family had agreed to vacate the house in three days.
Helene couldn’t believe it.
Since when did the police station become so efficient?
Excitedly, Helene shared the excellent news with Carlisle, sitting on the sofa, looking at his phone.
Without raising his head, Carlisle said, “Oh,” and continued browsing on his phone.

Helene then asked Carlisle when he could lend her 500,000 bucks, as he promised.
This time, Carlisle put down his phone.
And he said, “You got the property deed less than five years ago, and you haven’t paid the hefty property tax yet. After deducting the mortgage and other expenses, you won’t get $500,000 in hand. How can you ensure that you’ll be able to pay me back in full?”
Indeed, after deducting various fees, the most Helene could get was about $400,000.
This time, Helene was at a loss for words.
She stammered for a while before saying.
“I’m preparing for CPA; if I can pass it, I might get a high- paying job.”
Carlisle didn’t believe her and thought Helene was trying to buy more time.
However, since he had promised he would follow through.
“Tomorrow morning, I’ll transfer the money to your account.”
But then Carlisle added a new condition, “About the prenuptial agreement we signed, you must keep it a secret from my grandfather.”
Helene readily agreed.
The following day, Carlisle went to the office, and the first thing he did was to talk to the HR manager, Ántonia Duke. He asked Ántonia to inform Diego that the company was

considering promoting him to the technology department, which was a core department of the company. But a confidentiality deposit of $60,000 was required to secure the position. Diego needed to pay the total amount to get the transfer.
Ántonia was a wise and capable middle–aged man. He was curious why Carlisle was so “concerned” about a new
employee and changed his positions multiple times within a few days.
Carlisle even found various excuses to set obstacles for Diego. Ántonia had never heard of such a confidentiality deposit throughout his many years at the company.
This time, the Diego guy was learning his lesson hard – this was what he got for offending Carlisle.
Diego was overjoyed to have received $60,000 in rent. He was still upset about not being able to buy the ring for Freya last time and was holding a grudge.
Now, he finally got back at Helene. Since he had paid her more than $60,000 in rent over the years, Helene was getting off easy.
Looking at the amount in his bank account, Diego immediately called Freya to share the good news. He excitedly told her that the company had advanced his one- month salary, and they could go and buy the ring they had missed out on after work.
Freya was over the moon. She couldn’t wait to show off to Helene and make her green with envy.
However, life was unpredictable.

Just as Diego hung up the phone, he received a notification from the HR department asking him to pay a confidential deposit of $60,000 to transfer to the new position with a starting salary of $5,000. His future wage would depend on his performance in the new role.
Upon receiving the notification, Diego was furious and let out a string of curses.
He had just gotten $60,000.
But he also didn’t want to miss out on a higher salary in the technical department.
He believed that with his abilities, earning $30,000-40,000 a month wouldn’t be a problem.
Besides, he had promised Freya to buy the ring…
Dammit!
In a state of inner turmoil, Diego decided to accept the transfer first.
As for the ring, he could delay it. He believed that Freya would understand.
At the Care Hospital.
Helene received Carlisle’s transfer and hurried to the payment counter to settle the medical bill for her grandmother’s
surgery.
However, the staff at the counter told her that her grandmother’s surgery fees had already been paid in full.
Helene checked the signature and was surprised that Niall

had paid almost $500,000.
This was no small amount!
Why would Niall do that?
And he didn’t even tell her about it.
Were all doctors so willing to help others?
When Helene arrived at her grandmother’s ward, she coincidentally ran into Niall as he was doing his rounds.
“Miss Lopez, your grandmother’s surgery is scheduled for next Wednesday, just as planned,” Niall informed her.
“Dr. Anderson, thank you for paying the fees. I have gathered the money and will transfer it to you immediately.”
Hearing that, Niall’s expression stiffened momentarily, and he awkwardly smiled.
“There’s no rush. Your grandmother’s surgery is more important than anything else.”
But Helene insisted on transferring the money to him.
Just then, Niall received a call.
The voice on the other end was loud, and Helene thought it sounded a bit like Delilah. Delilah angrily questioned Niall if he had paid for a patient’s surgery.
Niall covered the phone and quickly walked into his office.
Helene didn’t follow him; she thought she would find him later and went to see her grandmother first.

Niall was fed up and placed the phone upside down on the desk, refusing to say another word to her.
Finally, the phone went silent after a while.
Niall opened a drawer and took out an exquisite photo frame containing a picture of himself with a girl.
The girl looked innocent and sweet, with a striking resemblance to Helene in both appearance and features.
Her name was Ainsley Hall, Niall’s first love, who died of cancer at age twenty.
Since then, Niall had become even more determined to pursue a medical career. He vowed to treat more cancer patients and prevent their loved ones from enduring the same pain he went through.
At noon, Helene finally found Niall and transferred the money. to him.
Her grandmother’s preoperative preparations in two days required her presence, and she needed to arrange everything properly at home and at work.
In the afternoon, Helene returned to the office and didn’t see Freya. She heard that Freya’s boyfriend had taken her to buy a giant diamond ring.
When it was time to get off work, Helene had taken her leave, finished her tasks, and was about to leave when she saw Freya coming back, wearing a mask and slightly swelling around her eyes, as if she had been in a fight.

Freya entered the office, took her medical insurance card, turned around, only to see Helene standing by the door.
“What are you looking at?” Freya immediately snapped in
anger.
“I have something to ask you,” Helene said.
“I’m busy. No time for your nagging.”
“I just want to know, did Diego tell you about renting my apartment?”
Freya was taken aback.
“Diego rented out your apartment? When?”
“Just a few days ago.”
“And how much did he charge?”
“$60,000.”
and
“That jerk! No wonder he suddenly wanted to buy me a diamond ring. He said the company had advanced his salary, and he lent the money to a friend. This fraud!” Freya stomped out of the office.
