Chapter 70
Chapter 70
Edith waited until eleven o’clock in the evening. The waiter couldn’t stand it anymore and walked over with the bill.
“Miss, we’re going to close. You’ve been sitting here for a whole day. You just ordered a few cakes in the morning but have drunk many glasses of water. Can you pay the bill?”
“Oh, wait a minute!”
Edith was a little embarrassed and hesitant, and she hurriedly took out her payroll card.
Seeing that she finally decided to pay the bill, the waiter was relieved and swiped her card in the POS machine.
Soon, Edith received a message from the bank, which showed that she had paid nearly 100 dollars for the five cakes.
She was shocked and swore that she wouldn’t come to eat here again!
After the café was closed, Edith had no choice but to wait at the door.
She had never been afraid of Glenn and Vanessa, but she didn’t know why she was afraid of Carlos.
She thought it might be because of his identity. He was so powerful that he could control the lives of others at will. Edith felt she’d better obey him to avoid any unnecessary trouble.
Moreover, if she wanted to leave the Lawson’s place, Carlos might be of great use to her!
Right at this moment, there was a rumble of thunder from the sky, which was very terrifying.
The lightning flashed across the sky, followed by the pouring rain.
Edith quickly shrank inside, and the waiter who was locking the door looked at her with disdain, as if he had known that she was poor.
But Edith didn’t care. No one could stop others‘ strange gazes, and she just needed to be herself.
The rain was getting heavier, so she couldn’t leave even if she wanted to.
She lowered her head and called Carlos, but his phone was switched off. Edith just hoped that she could see a silver lining.
She thought to herself, “What has he been doing all day?
Did he forget me?”
Thinking of this, Edith suddenly felt very sad.
She was nothing to Carlos. But she had waited for him until now and didn’t dare to leave because of his casual words.
In Edith’s mind, Carlos was older than her and shouldn’t treat her so lightly. He couldn’t even set an example for her!
She felt a little sad, either because of the torture of waiting so long or the heavy summer rain.
At the moment, a group of men came out of the opposite bar. They wore jackets and dressed up like punks. They had colorful hair and got all kinds of tattoos on their bodies. With cigarettes in their mouths, they looked at Edith in the rain.
She suddenly felt a little nervous and quickly looked away.
But she still saw out of the corner of her eye that those men whispered to each other and walked to her with umbrellas.
She was frightened and knew that she couldn’t stay there anymore. Those men were drunk and would be very likely to
ássault her…

Chapter 70
With no hesitation, Edith rushed into the rain.
But unexpectedly, she bumped into someone when running and fell to the ground awkwardly because of inertia.
She didn’t even dare to look up. Her first reaction was to climb up and run away.
Her knees hurt, but she endured the pain, got up, and wanted to continue walking. However, she was stopped by a large hand.
Only then did she look up and see Carlos.
“Uncle?” Edith called in a daze.
Carlos pulled her into his arms and supported her. His sharp gaze fell on the group of punks, who immediately stopped walking forward and left in fear.
“Are you all right?”
Carlos asked worriedly.
Hearing this, Edith could no longer hold back her tears and started crying.

Without saying a word, she broke free from his arms and staggered in the rain, not even looking at him.
Carlos knew that she was angry with him being late.
He didn’t say anything. In fact, he didn’t know how to comfort her. He was used to being pleased by others and had never
been in such a situation.
Edith’s knees were badly hurt and the skin was broken despite the pants. Every step she took caused her a lot of pain.
She lost her balance and was about to fall when Carlos caught her in time and picked her up directly.
“Since you are injured, you need someone to take care of you. You don’t have to be so strong,” Carlos reminded.
But Edith considered his words a severe reprimand.
She didn’t know if he was ashamed of blaming her.
