Chapter 8
Alexandra’s POV
“What do you mean? Do you have something to do with that murdered girl?!”
Larus shook his head, “Well actually… You are that murder girl.”
I stared at his eyes to see if he was lying or not, “Oh… Wait, how is my body still there, if I am here?”
“That is what is left of your human life, your spirit transformed after I turned you into the form you are now. The body I left in the field is just an empty vessel. They normally disintegrate by now but I guess part of your human wanted to hang on. So, that’s how the police found your body in the field. They are probably going to freak out when it disappears from the morgue.”
I laughed, “Okay, that is pretty funny. Thank god, I thought you killed somebody.”
He looked away from me, “Well… actually you killed somebody on your first night.”
I shot up from my chair, “WHAT?!”
He stood up with me, “Calm down, it was the missing hiker they are looking for. It was his time and I made sure it was peaceful. If you didn’t do it, he was going to get attacked by a bear. Besides, you had to in order to gain your energy, otherwise you would have died before you fully woke up.”
I sat back down, “Okay that is a little better.”
Larus grabbed onto my hand, “Fledgling, I know you aren’t used to it yet but, you have to think of death as just a part of a human’s life. You should be honored to help their spirits go off to the afterlife.”
I nodded, “That actually sounds amazing. When do I get to do it?”
“After a month, when your powers are fully developed. I will help you with your first time then you are on your own… Now, how about you get some sleep?”
I stood up again, “That actually sounds amazing.”
I looked over at the coffee table and noticed the coffee cups still sitting there, “Larus?”
“Yeah?”
“Why haven’t I needed to eat or drink anything?”
He smiled, “You aren’t a human anymore, fledgling. We can eat if we want to but we won’t die if we don’t. Same goes for sleeping. As you grow older you won’t feel the need to sleep at all.”
I walked into the doorway that went into the hall but stopped myself, “You know, I am not very tired right now. How about we train some more?”
Larus started picking up all the coffee cups, “Are you sure? You have been through a lot today.”
My wings unfolded themselves and spread out, covering the door way. Larus told me yesterday that to evil angels this was a sign of a challenge.
“What are you scared I will beat you?”
He put down the cups and let out his evil form, “Oh fledgling, if you are looking to beat me, you are going to be disappointed.”
He unfolded his wings, almost filling up the entire room, and grinned, showing off his razor sharp teeth.
I forgot how huge his wings are compared to mine.
Shit… time to go.
I folded in my wings and took off running down the hall and outside.
He may be stronger but I am still younger and faster.
I snapped my wings back out when I got half way out into the yard and waited for him to come running towards me. Once he stepped foot outside, I took off running and launched myself into the air. He followed my lead and soared up after me. I flew up into the clouds to get him to lose sight of me and listened for the flapping of his wings. Suddenly, a tail wrapped around my foot and made me drop about twenty feet.
“I told you, fledgling, you weren’t going to beat me. But I do like how you used the clouds for cover.”
I was hanging upside down trying to flap my wings as Larus was holding me by my foot with his tail.
How am I going to get out of this?
He laughed as he flapped his wings more so we would stay up, “You aren’t going to get out of this.”
Oh I know how!
Using all the muscles in my body, I flapped my wings hard enough to raise me up a bit more. I wrapped my tail behind his back, tying his wings together, making him fall back. He smiled, “That was a good trick. I have taught you well. Now let’s see if you can catch me and land on your feet.”
Within a second he changed into his human, leaving me nothing to hold him up by. He fell from my tail and started plummeting down towards the Earth.
Shit.
“Larus!”
I folded in my wings to catch up with him and wrapped my arms around his body and my tail around his legs. I flapped my wings as hard I could but due to him being a lot heavier than me it only slowed our descent. We both hit the ground and went tumbling across the yard. Larus got up and brushed off his clothes, “That was pretty good. I give you a week before you are ready.”
I peeled myself off the ground and shook out my wings, “Ready for what?”
“To guide a soul.”
