Chapter 6
Alexandra’s POV
It’s been two weeks since I was turned and I am still working on getting all my questions answered by Larus. He seems to dodge a few of them, especially the one about how I got turned into an evil angel. Other than that I have been doing pretty good with learning how to control my new body.
Larus swooped in from above and gracefully landed in front of me, “So, do you think you can try it now?”
I turned my head up to the cloudy sky, “I can try. How do I start again?”
He laughed, coming closer to me, “Well... first you have to unfold your wings. Then, get a running start and your wings should take you from there.”
I snapped out my wings and looked at the lawn ahead of me.
Well… here goes nothing.
I took off running, flapping my wings, then when I gained speed, I jumped up. My wings took my away from the ground. Using strong strokes from my wings, I rose higher and higher from the ground, “Larus I am flying!!!”
“I know, my fledgling. I am proud of you. Now, I will race you to the rooftop of the castle.”
He was flying next to me and I realized how high we had gotten. I laughed, “You are on, old man.”
Instantly he tucked in his wings and started falling towards the Earth.
Is he crazy?! I am not doing that
I kept my wings out, soaring through the air above.
“Fledgling, don’t get nervous. I will be here to catch you.”
Do you just talk to me in your head?!?!?
“Yes. I will explain when you get down here. Just fold in your wings and let gravity take you. Then, if you want to slow down, put them out again.”
I sighed and folded them in, instantly feeling uneasy when I started to fall really fast.
The castle came into view and I snapped out my wings to slow down. My feet hit the roof but I ended up tumbling down to the ledge until Larus grabbed me, “See, that wasn’t so bad.”
I pulled myself up and dusted off my shirt, “Yeah, I am just going to be covered in bruises now.”
He laughed but then stopped and grabbed me. He flew off the roof and into the window sill of my room.
“What’s wrong?”
He morphed into his human form, “We have visitors… This is going to be hard because you are still young but I need you to push back your evil and morph into your human.”
I nodded, “Okay that shouldn’t be that hard.”
He looked uneasy and grabbed onto my hands, “It’s going to hurt a lot to hold your evil back but hopefully it’s only for a few minutes… just relax and imagine what you would look like in human form. Focus everything on that.”
I closed my eyes imagining myself without my wings, tail, and horns. I felt a burning sensation throughout my body and I had to grit my teeth from the pain. I slowly faded but was still there when I opened my eyes. Larus smiled, “I am so proud, you actually did it!”
There was a knock at the door that echoed throughout the castle. Larus sighed, “Alright, just stay behind me and if you feel any pain that’s too much, tell me right away.”
I nodded, scared that if I said anything I would scream out in pain.
We walked out to the main hall and Larus opened the door to find two sheriffs outside. Larus greeted them, “Good morning, Sheriff Meagan and Deputy Hales, would you like to come in?”
The female, who I assume is Sheriff Meagan, answered him, “We would love to. We actually have a few questions to ask you, Larus.”
They both stepped inside and Deputy Hales looked at me, “I haven’t seen you around here before. Who are you?”
I was about to speak when a jolt of pain shot through me. Larus noticed and spoke for me, “She is my daughter, Alexandra.”
Sheriff Meagan looked over at me too, “I didn’t know you had a daughter.”
He nodded and stood next to me, “She actually just arrived a couple weeks ago. She used to live with her mother in Colorado. Anyways, you guys remember where the living room is. I will go get some refreshments then we can talk.”
They both nodded and walked off down the hall. Larus looked me over, “How are you holding up? I can tell you are in pain. I can try to speed things up if you need.”
I shook my head, “I am fine.”
He narrowed his eyes, “Are you sure?”
I nodded and pushed him in the direction towards the living room, “Yup… I will get the refreshments. You answer the questions.”
He glared as he looked me over then walked off down the hall. I turned the other direction towards the kitchen. Right as I got in the doorway of the kitchen I collapsed to my knees as the burning sensation got worse.
Why does it feel like my skin is being ripped off?
Let your evil out and the pain will go away.
No, just hang on a little bit longer.
I stood up and shakily grabbed a few mugs and filled them with coffee then made my way to the living room. Everyone was already sitting down and I handed everyone their coffee. I sat down in a chair next to Larus and felt his gaze burning into me. The Sheriff looked over at me, “So, we were just asking your father if you two have seen anyone around here in the past couple of weeks.”
A jolt of pain shocked me again, ” N-Nope, not many people come around here.”
You can make the pain stop.
Shut up, stupid brain!
“Were you aware that a body was found about two miles west of here? Also, there was a male reported missing about two weeks ago. He supposedly went for a hike around here.”
I shifted in my seat to cover up the burning that was making its way back again, “No, I haven’t heard of anything like that. That’s strange.”
The sheriff stared into my eyes as if she was looking for something. The pain in my back where my wings normally are became more intense.
This is getting harder to hold back.
Larus heard my thoughts and stood up, “I am sorry to cut this short but we have some important stuff to get to. You guys are welcome back whenever you need.”
The sheriff stood with her deputy, “Of course. Thank you for answering our questions. Can you please show us to the door? Your house is so huge, I have a feeling we will go lost.”
He nodded and left the room with them. I curled up into a ball and felt a few tears roll down my face.
“Just hang on they are almost gone.”
Right as I heard the door close, Larus was next to me again, “Hey, it’s okay. They are gone, just let it out.”
I relaxed my body and felt the burning take over all my senses. I let out a scream as the pain was worse than ever before. Then, I felt a heaviness on my back as I saw my wings appear again and the pain leave. I let out a sigh of relief as all the pain was gone, “Why the hell did that hurt so much?”
Larus wrapped his arms around me and pulled me into his embrace, “You are still young so you are still gaining power. You normally aren’t full grown until one month after your making. So, when you changed into your human form your evil didn’t want to let go.”
I let out a deep breath, “I swear it felt like my skin was getting ripped apart.”
He shook his head, “Why didn’t you tell me you were in that much pain? I would have had them leave earlier.”
“I didn’t want them to get suspicious of us, thinking we had something to do with those people.”
Larus ran a hand through his hair, “Well, about that… we need to talk about the day I turned you.”
