Evil Angels

Chapter 5

Alexandra’s POV

I stared at Larus with wide eyes, “What do you mean you turned me into an evil angel? What even is that? And why me? I didn’t do anything. I am just an innocent human.”

He let out a laugh, “One question at a time, fledgling… Why you? Because you were going to die and I decided to save you. If it wasn’t for me you would be in hell right now but I gave you a life again. You are an evil angel now and I am your maker.”

I looked down at my long talon-like nails, “So I am like a demon now?”

“Oh hell no! You are not a demon! Demons are unsophisticated monsters that torture souls in hell. Unlike us they can’t live in the living world. We simply watch over and transport souls where they need to go. Other than that we can live our lives on Earth in peace.”

I nodded in understanding, “Wait… If you are an evil angel too. Why do you look like a human?”

He smiled, morphing his body back to look like me, “It’s our camouflage. You can’t do it yet because you are a few days old and can’t control your evil yet. I will teach all you need to know… Now, we need to heal that wing of yours. I will be back in a few moments.”

With that he stood up and opened the window, jumping out before I could say another word.

Well, I guess I am done with my questioning for now.

I mean it is kind of cool that I have wings now. Maybe he will teach me to fly. Or maybe start off teaching me how to control my tail.

Maybe being an evil angel isn’t so bad. It’s not like I had a great life as a human.

Larus came back through the window and morphed back into his human form. He held out a bottle full of a red liquid to me, “Here drink this. It will make your wing better.”

I grabbed it and swirled around the liquid, “What is it?”

“Just drink it.”

I opened the top and took a sip.

Oh my god this tastes amazing!

He laughed, “I know it does but I am pretty sure you don’t want to know what it is now.”

I drank half of it down and then felt my wing start to heal itself. I moved it around in amazement, “Reading my mind again I see. Tell me, what is it?”

He bit his bottom lip, “Blood.”

Human?!?!

He looked down at his feet, “Yes… It is the only thing that heals us fully.”

Why does he look so guilty?

“Because I killed someone when it wasn’t his time yet.”

I looked down at the bottle, “Oh… and you feel guilty?”

His eyes shot up locking onto mine, “Yes. We are not demons. I don’t like to kill when it isn’t someone’s time or they don’t deserve it. Even though some of our kind don’t think the same. Some of us used to be angels so we still have empathy. They only call us evil because we have to take lives to hell to serve our purpose.”

“So you used to be an angel? How did you turn into an evil angel?”

He laughed, “That is for another time my fledgling… but how about we teach you how to get used to your new body?”

I slowly stood up to gain my balance, “Please, I want to be able to stand again without being scared of falling.”

He grabbed onto my arm, “Okay, let’s go to a different room for this. Do you mind if I fly you there? It will be much quicker.”

Flying?! I have never done that before.

Larus let out another laugh, “Sometimes I forget humans don’t have wings.”

He wrapped his arms around me and morphed into his evil side. I folded up my wings close into my back. He walked me towards the window sill and I looked out at the ground below me.

This is a lot higher than I thought…

Before I had time to second guess this he pushed us out the window and we began falling towards the ground until he snapped his wings out at the last second. We soared up into the air as Larus flapped his leathery wings. I looked down, getting a view of the gigantic castle we were in and the forest around us. The moonlight shining on us felt so calming and refreshing.

Larus smiled, showing his sharp teeth, “We can be out at any time of the day as we don’t need to sleep as much as humans. But the night is the most comfortable for us.”

We soared higher into the air, circling above the landscape. I felt the wind going through my hair and I almost felt the urge to flap my wings out and fly too. Larus’ grip relaxed around me, “Unfold your wings.”

Panic rushed over me.

I can’t fly!

He loosened his grip even more, “Don’t worry. I won’t let you fall, just unfold your wings.”

I unfolded them, feeling the force of the wind trying to push them up.

“Keep your wings strong and sturdy. The wind will direct you where to go.”

I nodded and tried to focus on the wind. My wings seemed to know what to do and soon I felt Larus completely let go of me. I looked over seeing him soaring right next to me.

I am flying!!!!

I gazed down at the ground seeing a few lights from houses scattered around and clumped together. That was until I forgot to focus on flying and started to drop closer to the Earth.

Oh shit!

I tried to flap my wings but they were too weak to stand the force of the wind, “LARUS!”

I instantly felt his arms wrap around my body, stopping my fall, “I got you, fledgling. I am sorry I let you fall.”

I shook my head as I tried to slow down my heart, “That’s okay… Can we maybe go back to the ground now?”

He laughed, “Of course, I hope you aren’t scared of flying now. It’s basically our only way to get out of trouble.”

I folded my wings in, “I’m not. It’s just going to take some getting used to.”

We gently landed on the grassy lawn of the castle, “You will get the hang of it. Your wings are still young… Now how about we teach you how to use that tail?”

I picked up my tail in my hands, “I don’t get why this thing is so long?!?!”

He narrowed his black eyes at me then out of nowhere his tail wrapped around my legs pulling me to the ground, “Does that answer your question?”

The wind was knocked out of me so I just stared up at the sky, trying to recount how I ended up on the ground.

No fair.
