Chapter 14
Emma’s POV
The girl stared at me with her red eyes, “What do you want to know?”
Everything.
“What’s your name?”
“Alexandra… Is that all you want?”
“What are you?”
She laughed, “It’s better if you don’t know that.”
I shook my head, “I have already seen you twice. I know you want to keep yourself hidden but you are literally laying on my table.”
She sighed, “I guess you are right… I am an evil angel.”
My eyes widened, “A demon?”
She narrowed her eyes, “No. We do not torture souls. We simply coax them out of their bodies and send them where they deserve to go.”
“So, you did that with Mr. Brown?”
“Yes, people call us evil because they think we kill people but we don’t. I mean we can if we want to speed up the process. But, our main purpose is to be there when they fully die. Any more questions?”
That’s actually cool.
“No I am good for now… Do you want any food or something to drink?”
“Coffee, please.”
I walked over to the kitchen and put the coffee pot on. I rolled down the sleeves of my flannel, “It sure is cold tonight.”
“Yup that might be me.”
I laughed, “So you can change the weather too?”
She laughed too, “No, that would be awesome though. I just bring a cold presence to those around me and my skin is normally icy cold.”
That’s why it was so cold in the cafe when I first saw her. Wait….
I grabbed the mugs of coffee and handed one to her, “Oh… hey is there anymore of you guys around town? Like a man, his name is Larus.”
She laughed, “You know Larus? So much for him telling me to keep us a secret.”
“Oh no. He didn’t tell me anything. I just assumed from the pointed ears, black eyes, cold presence...”
She sat up with her coffee mug, “Yeah he is my maker.”
“Oh okay. Anyways it’s getting late and I should sleep. Do you sleep?”
“I don’t need to but I can.”
I nodded, “Okay, the couch is open for you and blankets are in that cabinet.”
I began the walk into my room when I heard her, “Hey Emma?”
“Yes?”
“Thank you.”
I smiled, “You’re welcome, Alexandra.”
Alexandra’s POV
I woke up feeling worse than last night. I was lying on the couch when Emma walked in, “Good morning. How do you feel?”
“Like shit.”
She turned on the coffee pot, “I am sorry. I am going to make some eggs and toast if you want some.”
“Umm… I don’t really eat food anymore.”
“Oh so what do you eat then?”
“The flesh of dead humans.”
Her face changed instantly to digest making me burst out in laughter, “I am joking… I just don’t really need to eat. It’s like sleeping. I can but I don’t feel the need to.”
She smiled brightly, “Well I am still going to make you something.”
She floated around the kitchen, quietly humming to herself as she cooked. She looked beautiful with the sunlight from the window radiating off her body. She actually looked so warm, I wanted to hug her and feel the heat on my cold skin.
Why am I thinking these things?
She set two plates down on the table with forks, “Come eat up.”
I stood up and sat down next to her, digging into my food.
This is actually delicious!
I scarfed the food down in under a few seconds and stood back up to clean my plate off. Emma was looking at me with wide eyes.
“What?”
She laughed, “Nothing. I am just glad you are hungry.”
My stomach growled.
I am hungry… Wait, I am not supposed to be hungry.
I looked down at the plate I was cleaning and instantly felt sick. I leaned over the sink and threw up everything I just ate. I felt Emma come up behind me, “Oh my god are you okay?”
I wiped my mouth off and turned on the sink, “I am fine. Just having eaten in a while. I guess my body isn’t used to it.”
“Your skin is turning gray… your wing is bleeding again.”
She looked me over, examining my wing as the stitches she put on weren’t holding the cuts closed anymore. I felt weak and kneeled down on the floor. Emma put pressure on where my wing was torn off to stop the bleeding.
What is happening?
“Larus! Please hear me!”
A few seconds later, the door burst open with a worried Larus standing in his evil form, “Fledgling!”
He ran over to me and held me in his arms, “It’s okay. I am here.”
With half open eyes, I looked up at him, “I was calling for you but you never answered.”
“I know, fledgling. I am so sorry. I couldn’t hear you.”
Emma grabbed a towel to push against my wing, “She just keeps bleeding and the stitches aren’t working.”
Larus just now noticed her presence, “She needs blood. Fledgling, I will be back in a moment.”
Emma looked over at him, “Can’t you just give her yours? You two are from the same species.”
“She needs human blood.”
Emma was silent for a moment, “Give her mine.”
Larus laughed, “Are you crazy?”
She nodded, “I just want her to be okay.”
Larus looked at her then at me, “Give me your arm.”
I weakly grabbed Larus, “Don’t let her do it.”
Larus took her arm and bit into it with his razor teeth. She hissed in pain when he released it and she put her arm to my mouth. I tried to resist but my evil pushed towards it and I was sucking the blood out of her instantly.
It tastes so good.
I began to feel everything in my body putting itself back together. When I had enough, I released her arm and stood to grab the med kit. I wrapped her arm in gauze and saw that she had dozed off. I gently picked her up and laid her in bed. Larus came in behind me, “Are you okay?”
I glanced over at him then back to her relaxed body, “I am perfect. Will she be okay?”
He looked her over, “She will be fine after some rest. You didn’t take that much blood. Do you want to stay until she wakes up?”
She took care of you and this is how you repay her.
I shook my head, “No, I did this to her. It is safer if I stay away.”
I can feel every part of her. Her warmth. Her blood flowing through my body.
“Alexan-”
Her heartbeat sounds so quiet and shallow.
“No Larus. I need to get out of here.”
I ran outside and let my wings out, pushing myself into the air.
Stop thinking about it.
I needed to get away so I just took off flying.
