Chapter 165
Chapter 165 Court of Public Opinion.
The scene turns to Silverwood Hospital.
Pale and trembling, Kate lay on the hospital bed, her eyes slowly opening as if emerging from a deep slumber. Subconsciously, she sat up, her gaze searching for Eric.
Hendrick, quick to her side, gently supported Kate and murmured, “Kate, take it easy. Eric is right beside you in the hospital bed. There’s no imminent danger to his life.”
Hearing Hendrick’s reassurance, Kate finally found some respite in her heart. She turned to look at Eric, tears welling up in her eyes.
Eric’s right arm and leg were swathed in bandages, an IV drip and monitoring devices tethered to him. His countenance was pallid and grave, brow slightly furrowed and his head wrapped in a bandage.
Kate’s heart clenched with every beat. Hendrick had briefed her on Eric’s condition, easing her anxiety somewhat, but worry still lingered.
Thank goodness… Eric hadn’t endured days trapped in that stifling darkness, as in her previous life. Few. had known of his venture to the abandoned factory in the city’s eastern outskirts then; his absence was only. noted after concerns grew, and he was eventually rescued from beneath debris.
This time, though brief, Kate had seen the grisly bloodstains lining the walls of Eric’s
confinement. She could only imagine his anxiety during those moments. The thought pained her deeply.
She gazed at Eric for a long while before turning to Hendrick, her voice hesitant yet urgent, “Where is George?”
George had always been steadfast in his vigil by Eric’s bedside during times of injury, yet now Kate couldn’t spot him anywhere.
Hendrick pursed his lips, hesitated momentarily, then spoke with a touch of helplessness, “He’s gone to Davison Group to maintain order and handle business.”
Kate was momentarily taken aback, recalling George’s role as steward of Summer Estate, formerly Eric’s trusted aide. Lucas, too, lay injured from the explosion, necessitating investigation and management of its fallout…
Lost in thought, Kate reached into her pocket, only to find her phone missing. Confusion clouded her expression as she turned to Hendrick, “Hendrick, where’s my phone?”
Hendrick’s eyes flickered briefly, before he advised, “Kate, you’re still weak. Focus on recuperating first
Kate fixed her gaze on Hendrick, a hint of resolve in her voice, “Hendrick, is there an online uproar?”

Finished
Hendrick glanced at his sister, sighing softly as he handed the phone to Kate. Upon unlocking it, Kate was greeted by a flurry of news notifications.
Miles and the wife of Davison Group caught in affair scandal.
‘Kate advances to the finals of the esteemed International Design Competition thanks to Miles pulling the strings”
‘The nature of Kate’s relationship with Miles remains ambiguous.
‘Meanwhile, Hendrick, at the helm of Lowe Group, engaged in suburban racing, his pursuits echoing in distant streets.
‘A sudden explosion rocked the castern suburbs, plunging the fate of Eric, CEO of Davison Group, into precarious uncertainty.
Kate furrowed her brow as she scanned through each successive news update. Shouldn’t the matters of the international design competition be settled by now? Why did these insinuations about her and Miles persist?
The malicious gossip churned her stomach, yet her foremost concern lay with the news Eric’s mysterious disappearance. The news had already wrought havoc on Davison Group’s stock, plunging it into a rapid descent.
Within Davison Group’s headquarters, George juggled a myriad of responsibilities, yearning for more hands to manage them all.
Daily operations under Eric’s absence, strategising against opposition attacks, and quelling the deluge of negative online publicity concerning not only Eric but also Miles and Kate–these tasks demanded urgent attention.
In essence, Davison Group resembled a relentless spinning top, whirling tirelessly amidst the tumultuous currents of crisis.
