Chapter 164
Chapter 164 A Matter of Time
Kate, let the doctor see to your hand first, Hendrick urged gently, guiding the physician toward her. His eyes brimmed with sympathy as he observed her.
Kate stared blankly at the closed doors of the operating theatre, offering no resistance as the doctor began tending to her wounded hand.
Meanwhile, George and Miles swiftly completed the necessary hospital procedures before returning anxiously to stand vigil outside the theatre.
Witnessing the distress etched on Kate’s face, both Miles and George were at a loss for words, uncertain how best to comfort her in such a trying moment.
All they
hey could do was wait, hoping for Eric to emerge from the surgery soon.
By the time Eric’s procedure concluded, the first light of dawn painted the eastern sky. Anxious and eager, Kate rose from her seat, nearly stumbling before Hendrick steadied her.
“Doctor, how is he?” Miles asked urgently as the operating room doors creaked open.
The physician sighed heavily. “He sustained injuries from the explosion, but luckily, a nearby wall shielded him somewhat. However, there are concerns about his organs due to the blast impact, as well as a head injury possibly leading to concussion. He’s got a fractured shin, a broken arm, and significant blood loss, so he’ll need a period of rest.”
Upon hearing the doctor’s assessment, tears welled up in Kate’s eyes as she peered at the pallid figure of Eric lying in the hospital bed. A sense of helplessness washed over her, despite having imagined this scenario during the agonising wait.
Though she couldn’t change the events leading to Eric’s ordeal, she found barely any solace in having found him swiftly. All it accomplished was reducing the time he endured in darkness and uncertainty.
You’re useless, Kate.
Kate’s bitter smile wavered, a swell of self–blame and exhaustion clouding her vision until unconsciousness claimed her.
“Kate!”
Before drifting into oblivion, Hendrick’s desperate cry reached her ears.
Swiftly, a group of concerned individuals rallied around her, ushering Kate into the emergency room. Hendrick steadfastly remained at her side, while George and Miles escorted Eric to the VIP ward.
The explosion had shattered the peace, targeting Eric with startling precision. Were it not for his swift reflexes, the abandoned factory might have ensnared him completely.

“Did you hear about the explosion in the city’s eastern quarter? It’s Eric from Davison Group. They say he’s trapped inside!”
“Indeed, reports are murky but it’s said he’s badly hurt. No journalist is willing to risk their life to capture footage of the scene.”
“If Eric should meet with misfortune, what fate awaits Davison Group? Their shares will surely plummet!”
“And Lowe Group as well, with Hendrick, their CEO, embroiled in street racing scandals,” added another.
Public opinion surged online, stirring the PR teams of both Lowe Group and Davison Group into frenzied action. Amidst the aftermath of the explosion, rumours of a supposed affair between Kate and Miles spread unchecked.
Observing the unfolding drama, Simon’s face lit up with a triumphant grin.
Turning to his companion seated across the private room, he spoke with evident admiration, “Mr. Younghusband, your strategy is truly masterful. A touch of deception and Eric was outmanoeuvred. It’s regrettable the scoundrel survived!”
The man opposite him emitted a deep, chilling chuckle, his voice dripping with malice, “If once. isn’t enough, then we shall start anew. And again. And again if needed–let us see how long Eric can endure with his weaknesses laid bare before me!”
Simon nodded enthusiastically, “Your tactics are peerless. It’s only a matter of time until Eric meets his downfall!”
The man regarded Simon’s unctuous manner with disdain, issuing a scornful laugh in response.
