Chapter 13
Chapter 13:
Feeling Defenseless
Lexie was instantly
speechless.
She had known Callum for a
solid three years. They’d
been inseparable – she’d been his rock, helping him out, navigating through tough times, and bailing out the sinking ship of the Wallace Group. Now, she’s just witnessing him turn into
the talk of the town in New
York City.
She had thought she was the person who knew Callum
the most in the world.
However, look what she got in the end? Betrayal.
“The saying ‘know the face
but not the heart’ is true.
What you see is not always
the whole truth, but
intuition is the most
accurate, affecting a person’s judgment,” Grayson’s deep voice sounded calmly. “So, I
believe in my own intuition.”
Upon hearing his words, Lexie couldn’t help but
smile. “I know the principle
of not judging by appearance
but by the heart, but our understanding of a person
often starts with their
clothing or eating habits,
isn’t it? So, the basic
understanding should come
before intuition.”
Grayson decided not to keep up the argument with Lexie.
He kind of met in the middle
and smiled, saying,
“Everyone’s got their own opinions. I don’t need Ms. Baily to agree with me. Just want you to know, pursuing you is my thing, so don’t
stress about it.”
Lexie gave in to Grayson’s persistence with a sigh. “Mr. Hopkins, I appreciate it, but right now, dating or a
relationship isn’t really on
my…

“Ms. Baily, just putting it out there that making a move on you is my deal, and trust me, it’s all positive. Take your time with a response; there’s
no rush. No need for
apologies or carrying any
extra stress on this.”
With that, he gave Lexie no
chance to refuse and turned
away.
Lexie stood in place, looking at Grayson’s back, feeling a mix of anger and
amusement.
If Grayson had used love at first sight as an opening line,
or if he had used the
previous assistance as an
excuse, Lexie could
decisively reject him.
But this man was clever in
his straightforwardness, not hiding his intentions and being honest about his feelings.
This not only caught Lexie off guard but also left her
feeling defenseless.
She was a person with heart
and feelings, not a robot;
how could she remain
indifferent to everything he’s
done for her?
“Hey there! Sweetie! Food is coming!” Kaitlynn walked in
with Lexie’s favorite birria
tacos. “What are you staring
at? Someone came here?”
Kaitlynn dropped the food off, took a seat on the sofa, and caught sight of the suit jacket nearby. She couldn’t help but give it a disdainful look. “You said you’re over
with him, so why cling to his
worn-out clothes? Are you two getting back again?”
“No, absolutely not! It’s not
Callum’s,” Lexie looked at the
suit jacket in Kaitlynn’s hand. She thought of the man who made her speechless a thousand times today, and sighed softly. “It’s from the
man who took me to the
hospital yesterday.”
Kaitlynn raised an eyebrow in surprise, excitement flashing in her eyes as if she had caught a whiff of gossip.
“Laxie, you little liar. You’re
hiding something.”
“I’ve got nothing to hide,” Lexie’s eyes flickered slightly. She lowered her eyelids and said, “It’s just a simple…
chance encounter.”
“If it’s just a chance encounter, why do you look guilty?” Kaitlynn looked at
Lexie with a face full of
mischief. “Come on, spill the tea. What’s going on with
you and that new guy?”
