Chapter 15
CATHERINE
'Catherine... Wake up...' a woman's voice whispered in my head.
'We have to get revenge for what they did to you... They're here... kill them...'
I opened my eyes abruptly, sat up and looked around.
I was still in my room, with Ryan lying next to me, snoring peacefully and quietly.
I was drenched in sweat and breathing in and out deeply. "That was just a dream..." I mumbled to myself and rubbed my temples.
Rose was completely agitated. 'Rose, what's wrong? I asked, looking at Ryan.
'I-I don't think that was a dream, Catherine...' she said uncertainly. I now had goose bumps all over my body and had to swallow hard.
'What does that mean, Rose?' I asked her quietly, as if someone else could hear our thoughts too.
'I don't know...'
'Kill her.' That was the voice. Again.
I swallowed hard, not daring to move.
'Who the hell are you?' I asked, waiting for an answer.
There was silence. Even Rose was quiet, waiting for an answer.
It was so quiet that I could hear my own heart beating.
The rain began to fall and drops pelted the window panes.
I startled at the sound and pulled my legs closer to me.
'R-Ryan...' I whispered softly.
'If you say a word of this to him, be sure you'll be on a suicide mission next.' Whispered the voice.
Goosebumps again.
"Mhmm?" Mumbled Ryan, completely sleepy.
I didn't dare say anything more. The voice was in my head, I wouldn't be surprised if it was serious.
I felt Ryan's arms pulling me against him.
He opened his eyes and looked at me. "Are you all right?" he asked me.
I nodded hastily. "Yes... Everything's fine,' I mumbled quietly.
'You're going to get up now and go to the bathroom,' the voice said and I had to swallow hard.
"Ryan, I need to go to the bathroom, I'll be right back," I said, standing up abruptly and marching into the bathroom.
Ryan was visibly confused and looked after me.
Once in the bathroom, I closed the door behind me.
'Stand in front of the mirror' said the voice and I did as I was told.
When I looked in the mirror, I was visibly startled.
My blue eyes were dark red and the veins in my face were discolored black so that they were completely visible.
"N-no... no... no,' I whispered to myself and grabbed my face.
'Rose, what's going on?' Rose remained silent and was just as frightened as I was.
'I mean, beautiful, I'm Daeva, your demoness. It's about time you let me come out.' A grin formed on my face in the mirror, even though I was doing anything but grinning.
'H-how?' I asked, completely shocked.
'Well, I've always lain dormant inside you, your she-wolf has always been more dominant than me because you only have a small amount of demon blood in you. But now I'm here, only you can see me. Your mate won't be able to see me until you've marked each other.'
"Cate? Is everything alright with you?" Ryan asked me, knocking on the door.
'Speak of the devil... You do know that he's the reason I'm here, right? After all, he issued an alpha order on you to get revenge. That's exactly what we're going to do, Princess. It's time for me to take charge. You and your she-wolf... you're too nice...'
"Catherine?" Ryan asked again.
I shook my head, hoping my reflection would change, but nothing happened.
"Yeah, it's fine, I'll be right there" I said to Ryan.
'If I were you, I'd talk about your mind communication. Otherwise you'll look like a lunatic.' Daeva said and laughed cheekily.
'James and Arnor are both in the cells. We have to kill them. Daeva looked at me seriously now and her eyes began to flare almost fiery. 'Your she-wolf has done a shitty job in that aspect.'
'My she-wolf protected me as best she could!' I defended myself and I heard Rose growl into my thoughts.
She probably couldn't stand Daeva, and neither could I. It felt like someone had taken over my head.
'In fact, I've taken over your head and if I want to, I can do what I want. I'm just leaving you here free to make friends with me for life. So... Before it gets disgusting, I suggest you do as I say.'
'Catherine, if you don't open the door right now, I'm going to break it down,' Ryan said again.
'It's show time,' Daeva said, gesturing me towards the door. I looked at her in the mirror one last time and then went to the door.
I opened it and looked at Ryan. I looked pale and had beads of sweat on my forehead.
"Are you all right? You look like you've seen a ghost." Ryan said, grabbing my shoulders.
I nodded hastily, hardly daring to speak.
"Yeah, I'm fine, I just had a nightmare..." I said and touched my forehead.
My nightmare continued, because it was pure reality.
"Yeah, last night was a bit much," Ryan finally said and led me to the bed.
I was so out of it that I had forgotten about last night's drama.
Daeva told me they were holding him captive? Okay. Now I felt really sick at the thought of knowing James was here. I immediately turned around and went into the bathroom. I stood over the toilet bowl and finally vomited.
Ryan came in after me and pulled my hair out of my face. It made me fucking uncomfortable.
"Please go..." I gasped out, trying to stop myself from vomiting.
"No, I'm not leaving you here alone in this state" he said sternly. After I calmed down, Ryan helped me walk over to the sink. I rinsed my mouth and also washed my whole face with cold water.
I looked in the mirror again and Daeva was staring at me.
I swallowed again and abruptly walked out of the bathroom.
"Oh God..." I mumbled to myself. Ryan followed me and held me by the arm.
"Can you tell me what's wrong with you? You've been so weird since this morning." Ryan said, looking me in the eye.
I shook my head "I don't know, I don't feel well. It was probably a bit too much wine for me." Lie.
Ryan frowned and finally nodded. Thank God he didn't make a big deal out of it.
I went to the bed and lay down in it, pulling the covers up.
'Damn, damn, damn...' I muttered to Rose.
'You can say that again...' Rose said and sighed.
'I'm still here,' Daeva spoke up. The feeling of nausea came over me again.
Ryan followed me and lay down next to me. He pulled me into his arms and I hugged him. His smell was simply, indescribably good. I nuzzled my face against his chest and ran my hand under his pyjama top. I placed my hand on his six-pack and traced his lines with my index finger.
"I can tell you're not feeling well Cate..." he whispered in my ear. Could he sense it through the companion bond too? Even if it wasn't strong, it was there.
I nodded slightly "Yeah, I don't really feel well." I mumbled to myself and finally looked up at him. He looked at me worriedly and stroked my hair.
I felt like shit.
He didn't know what to say and just stayed quiet.
I enjoyed the warmth radiating from his body. "I'm sorry about last night. Dinner was great, what followed was less so..." I had to swallow and looked up at him.
He shook his head "No, you don't need to be sorry. We'll get through this together." he said. He didn't mention a word about James and that he was trapped here. Was he deliberately trying to hide it from me?
'Of course he wants to hide it from you because he knows what a wreck you are,' Daeva said.
'Such a handsome companion and you still haven't marked each other. Too bad...'
There was something dangerous about Daeva, I didn't know exactly what it was. I had the feeling that she was like a ticking time bomb.
'Baby, when we get to these cells at the latest, I'll show you what a time bomb does,' she replied to my thoughts.
Daeva apparently wanted to do the whole thing on her own. Was Ryan's order behind this? No... After all, Ryan wouldn't stop me from getting my revenge. It was something else.
'Of course it's something else. Wait until I'm through with you, the word "nice" will no longer exist in your vocabulary,' Daeva said, laughing to herself.
Rose wanted to tear her into a thousand pieces. 'I won't let you do that, damn demon,' she hissed at Daeva.
Ryan watched me like an eagle the whole time.
'You and Rose seem very preoccupied with each other. You want to tell me what's going on in your head?"
Now Ryan was starting to get on my nerves too. "No, everything's fine," I said again.
My mood went from sad to annoyed and angry. I wasn't even in control of my damn body.
"Listen, Tristan's calling me. I'll come back to you later. Is that okay with you?" he asked me, breaking away from me and standing up.
I nodded, "Yeah, it's no problem." Thank goodness. I couldn't think straight with Daeva in my head
My mother was half demon, but her demon was more or less more peaceful. Daeva, on the other hand, was the devil himself. I needed to see my mother again...
'You won't do that. Your scum of a mother caused this catastrophe because she wanted your father so badly,' Daeva said, giving me a headache.
I held my temples and wanted to scream.
'STOP IT,' Rose shouted at her.
'You will fucking do what I tell you again. I will only stop when I deem it appropriate. Until then you will put up with me.' Daeva hissed at us.
'Say what you want us to say, damn demon,' Rose hissed at her.
Daeva laughed. 'What do I want? Catherine, not you Rose, but explicitly Catherine, to kill Arnor and that other asshole James. Not the quick, boring death. I want them both to suffer. Do we understand each other?
'Let's say I do this, will you disappear too?' I asked Daeva.
She laughed 'I'm not so bad Catherine, on the contrary, I have abilities that are also available to you. That headache you just felt. You can use them on other people, you just have to stare at them consciously and think of pain.' She said this as if it were that simple.
'Of course it's easy, you have it in your blood...' I could feel her grinning inwardly.
I thought about it for a moment. What choice did I have? To have a demon stuck to my cheek forever or to put an end to two perverts and find peace? Killing Arnor and James would certainly be easier, at least my conscience wouldn't have a problem with those two.
'Rose, I'm going to go through with it. I want this horror to end at last...' I said to her.
She just whimpered desperately 'Are you sure?' she asked me.
'Yes...'
