Dear Arthur Please Love Me Again by Arthur Clark

Chapter 8

Chapter 8

The company’s cash flow was severed, and they couldn’t pay the salaries, causing repeated disturbances among the workers on site.

In a fit of rage, one aggressive worker stormed into the company and killed Travis.

With his dying breath, Travis insisted it was my dad who had secretly shifted the assets, planning to flee abroad with the money, which led to the company’s financial collapse.

No one would doubt the words of a dying man.

Suspicion immediately fell on my dad.

All the workers rioted. They surrounded my apartment, throwing dog blood, hurling insults, and tossing dead rats.

I was terrified and hid inside my house. I was too scared to go out.

I called Arthur for help.

But his response dripped with disdain.

“Chloe, your dad killed Amanda’s dad. You even befriended me as part of a scheme. How can you be so vile, so manipulative? Do you have to compete with Amanda for everything?”

I desperately tried to explain.

I did meet him because of something Amanda said, but my feelings afterward were genuine.

Arthur warned me fiercely, “Enough! Stop trying any tricks! I’m telling you, I will take care of Amanda for the rest of my life!”

I will never forget that night.

Dad caressed my head, apologizing, saying he couldn’t continue this journey with me, blaming his poor judgment in partnering with someone like Travis.

“That day, it was actually Travis who wanted to flee with the money. We argued, and just when that worker burst in, he overheard us. He killed Travis, who, dying, chose to blame everything on me.

“On the brink of death, one’s words are often taken as truth, even for those who have led questionable lives. As the saying goes, “The dying speak no evil.’ Chloe, my dear daughter, I know I’m innocent, but I don’t want to drag you into this mess.”

Then, he pushed me away and ran towards the roof.

I hurried to catch up and tried to stop him.

I called Arthur, seeking his help.

I called again and again, but he never answered.

I watched helplessly as my dad leaped from the rooftop like a kite with its string cut.

I had lost the last family member I had in the world.

Meanwhile, my husband was by Amanda’s side, soothing her to sleep.
