CEO's Tears Over Pregnancy Test Discovery

Chapter 1864

Wendy replied nonchalantly, "About a million or so."

Karina froze on the spot. "Looks like I'm the fool here," she thought to herself.

She had assumed Wendy was talking about a modest amount of pocket money. She had completely forgotten Wendy wasn't an ordinary teenager. Her father was a CEO, and her mother was a designer. Of course, she wasn't going to have "normal" pocket money. Karina's thoughts were a whirlwind of emotions, but in the end, she pushed the card back toward Wendy. "No way. It doesn't matter how much. It's still not right for me to accept it. Doctors can't accept bribes from their patients.

"And since you said there's over a million in this card, there's really no way I can take it. If I did, I'd lose my license, get fired, and probably go to jail."

She exaggerated the consequences just a bit, but not entirely. Accepting bribes could really lead to those outcomes.

Wendy hesitated, clearly rattled by the serious tone. After a moment, she took the card back. "Fine. But if you ever need money, promise you'll tell me."

Karina couldn't help but smile, finding Wendy's response both endearing and amusing.

"I'm a fully capable adult, with a job and everything. I don't need help from someone who hasn't even hit twenty yet. But thanks for the offer," Karina said, her voice full of warmth.

A nurse entered to replace Wendy's IV drip, and Karina prepared to leave. But just as she was stepping out of the room, a commotion erupted in the hallway.

Karina frowned, assuming it was Wendy's mother causing trouble again, and immediately went to investigate.

Instead, she saw a wealthy-looking older woman striding confidently down the hall. Her steps were brisk and determined, and she was accompanied by a middle-aged man who trailed behind her, looking thoroughly defeated.

The woman waved her hands emphatically at the man, her voice cutting as she snapped, "Useless! You nearly lost your job, and somehow that's Wendy's fault? And your wife! Just because Adrian is her son, does that mean Wendy doesn't matter as her daughter? I may be old, but at least I'm not as outdated as she is. It's the twenty-first century, for heaven's sake! What is this nonsense about favoring boys over girls? Isn't she a woman herself?"

Karina couldn't help but chuckle.

The woman's fiery words were unexpected but refreshing.

"You must be Wendy's grandmother," Karina said, stepping forward with a polite smile.

The elderly woman paused her tirade when she noticed someone approaching, though her son, thoroughly chastised, couldn't even lift his head.

She looked at Karina with a mix of curiosity and skepticism, giving her a quick once-over before asking, "And you are?"

Karina didn't spare the man a

glance. She didn't need

introductions to figure out who he

was. It wasn't hard to connect the

dots. This must be Wendy's father.

As a father who had perfected the art of staying invisible in his daughter's life, Karina found his presence grating. Her irritation wasn't baseless. If he had stepped in, perhaps Wendy's mother, with her habit of bullying the weak, wouldn't have gone so far.

For all Karina knew, it might have been this very man's idea to force Wendy into donating her bone marrow in the first place.

"I'm Wendy's primary doctor. You can call me Dr. Karina," she replied smoothly. "Wendy's room is this way. Please, follow me."

Wendy's grandmother's demeanor shifted immediately upon hearing Karina's introduction. Her stern expression softened into a warm smile.

"Oh, you're Dr. Karina! I've heard

about you. They said my granddaughter wouldn't have

it without you. Thank you so much, truly!" . FindNovel

Karina accepted the gratitude graciously. "Just doing my job."

The two walked together toward the hospital room, chatting amiably. Meanwhile, Wendy's father was entirely ignored.
