Chapter 43
The pen in Nathan's hand slipped and fell onto the desk.
His chest rose and fell unevenly, and his emotions began to stir with agitation.
"Who is that man?"
Regardless of whether Isabella was truly cheating or not, in Nathan's eyes, the fact that she was getting too close to another man was enough to embarrass him. Moore's mother replied, "I don't know his name, but I know he's tall, very thin, wears sunglasses, and a Givenchy suit, with a very expensive diamond watch.
He's very protective of Isabella. When I just ruffled her hair a little, he went mad and pushed me away.
It's clear that he cares about my daughter a lot."
Nathan's face darkened in an instant.
Although he didn't care much for Isabella, the thought of another man fulfilling the role of caring for her-the role that should belong to him as her husband-ignited a possessive jealousy within him. Moore's mother's gaze lingered on Nathan, assessing him.
"Son-in-law, that man looks either very rich or of high status, and he's very handsome.
His demeanor is not at all inferior to yours."
The last part of her sentence completely triggered him:
"More importantly, he's even willing to support me for Isabella... and I think Isabella really cares about him."
Nathan suddenly snapped, hurling the glass on his desk across the room.
Even though he didn't love Isabella, his male pride could not accept the betrayal of her affections.
"Isabella, if you dare to be unfaithful to me, I will never forgive you!"
He spoke with bitter rage.
But he forgot one thing-he was the one who had been unfaithful to her first.
The night sky was clear and peaceful.
Isabella and Theodore sat on a bench by the moat, the two of them silent for a long time.
After a while, Isabella turned her head and spoke to Theodore.
"Theodore, you don't need to worry about my mom.
No matter how much you give her, she'll never be satisfied."
Isabella's gaze drifted towards a small hill in the distance, her eyes filled with sorrow and despair, as if looking through time into a decaying past.
"Even if I gave my life for her, she wouldn't appreciate a single bit of it."
Theodore suddenly reached out and gently took her trembling hand.
He could deeply empathize with her feeling of despair, as he too had been abandoned by his father, despite doing nothing wrong, merely because he was born to a woman his father didn't love. "Sis you are great."
He said softly, the short phrase carrying an immense sense of strength.
Yes, she had once thought herself worthless under her father's neglect and her mother's harshness.
But after seeing more of the world and experiencing different things, she had finally realized just how exceptional she was.
Her parents' lack of love was not her fault.
"You are the most important person to me," he whispered, his head resting gently on her shoulder as he teasingly added,
"sis, you need to spend more time with me from now on."
A man who was both elegant and sinister, righteous yet wicked, mature yet innocent-suddenly acting so childishly was something Isabella could not resist.
"Yes, you are the most important person to me," she replied, her hand gently ruffling his dark, shiny hair as if he were her pet.
Suddenly, Theodore cupped her face in his hands, forcing her to look at him.
"sis, not just now.
In the future, I will always be the most important person to you.
And you will always be the most important person to me."
Isabella froze, startled by his actions.
The look in his eyes reminded her of the one Nathan often gave Victoria-an attentive tenderness that only a man who deeply cared for a woman could express. She awkwardly pulled away from his grasp.
"Theodore, there's a limit to how close men and women can be," she said gently, yet firmly, as if giving him a kind but necessary lesson.
Theodore froze for a moment, his grip loosening slightly.
But in the next second, his hands became like clamps, firmly holding her face in his palms.
"Men and women can't be close? When you saved me back then, you saw all of me.
We've already been completely honest with each other.
I've already considered you my closest family."
His straightforwardness, unashamed and open, made Isabella feel a deep sense of shame.
She had been seeing him as that charismatic man from a previous life, forgetting that, right now, he was still just a child.
His dependence on her was that of a family member.
Isabella suddenly broke into a radiant smile and pinched Theodore's cheek.
"Yes, we will always be the closest of kin."
Let her live in the moment, forever.
The decisiveness and ruthlessness that Theodore had in his past life were completely erased by her.
He would forever be the younger brother she wanted to protect.
"Did you hear that Sis is going back to the Hill family?"
Theodore suddenly changed the subject, his strikingly handsome face darkening with an icy expression.
Isabella answered, speaking to herself, "Mm.
I'm Mrs. Hill. It makes no sense not to go back to the Hill family."
Theodore hesitated before speaking, his voice filled with concern.
"You've been abroad for the past two years, and Nathan and Victoria have been inseparable. the Hill family has never even acknowledged you as Mrs. Hill.
I'm afraid, in their hearts, they've never accepted you.
If you go back willingly, they might humiliate you in every way..."
Isabella's eyes were as calm and deep as the ocean.
the Hill family hadn't just failed to accept her as their daughter-in-law.
Her mother-in-law never allowed her to eat with them at the table.
She was often ridiculed, belittled as a "phoenix rising from a chicken," and subtly insulted for not measuring up, supposedly tarnishing the Hill family's reputation.
Even worse, she had been forbidden from publicly revealing her identity as Mrs. Hill.
And what about Nathan?
As her husband, when he saw her unjustly tormented by his mother, he simply furrowed his brow.
If she complained to him, he impatiently told her to learn to tolerate it.
And when he insisted on sleeping in a separate room, it was just another way to disguise the little mercy he had left for her, using the excuse that he stayed up late and didn't want to disturb her rest. In the Hill family, they all treated her like an emotionless, pain-free object.
All her suffering, she had to endure alone.
Isabella's long silence made Theodore frown in displeasure.
"Sis, if going back to the Hill family makes you so unhappy,
then don't go back."
He tightly gripped her thin shoulders, his voice filled with urgency.
Isabella's eyes reddened.
"Theo, I have to go back..."
Theodore's handsome eyes darkened with a deep sense of helplessness.
"Sis, tell me honestly-do you still have any feelings for Nathan in your heart?"
A fierce rejection and hatred surged in Isabella's eyes.
She shook her head vehemently.
"How could I still love him?"
In her past life, he was the one who caused the tragic death of her and her mother. She wished she could tear him apart herself. How could she possibly have any lingering feelings for such a man? Theodore's eyes softened, a smile of relief forming on his face.
"Sis, now I can rest assured."
"As long as hurting Nathan won't make you sad, I'll have no hesitation in dealing with this scumbag."
Theodore continued, "Sis, I will help you get rid of this worthless man as soon as possible."
Isabella stared blankly at him...
She had a faint premonition that, because she now had Theodore as her support, her fate in this life might truly be different from the last one.
Isabella said, "Theo, I know him too well.
On the surface, he pretends to be incredibly kind, but secretly he's full of scheming and deceit.
You must be careful when dealing with him."
Theodore nodded.
"Sis, wait for my good news."
In the middle of the night, Isabella returned to the Hill family.
Nathan was sitting on the sofa, immersed in the heavy darkness.
When Isabella turned on the lights, she was startled by the icy, sculpted features of his face.
