Chapter 79 –
Luna's POV Monday Afternoon
I was not worried about Kylie at all. She was getting pissed, and that was where I wanted her. She was forgetting what she needed to do with each missed strike. I have to admit that I knew that she was planning on hurting me. My wolf, Yuri, had warned me of what Kylie had intended. If she thinks that she can break my nose so easily, then good luck to her. But I was not just going to stand her and let her do it. This was a fight, and all bets were off in a fight.
I am planning on humiliating her and then dealing with her. She is out of control with her entitled attitude. She was so ugly to that young woman when she didn't need to be. Kylie was only 21; she was a year older than me. I know that the girl she just humiliated in front of the whole training session could only be around eighteen years old. Kylie has no grace, or kindness in her. She wants to be Luna but cannot see people's intrinsic value. She thinks that someone's rank is what makes people important, but she is so very wrong. It will be my pleasure to show her just how wrong she is about it today.
This has happened to me my whole life. Everyone underestimates me because they think I am cute and sweet. They think that because I smile a lot, or try to build relationships with others that I am somehow weak. I can see the young she-wolf is anxious that I will get hurt while sparring with Kylie. I decided to show her that I was fine. I will do it the same way I always do. Kicking someone's ass and explaining how I did what I did. I am going to use my innocent looks to my advantage.
Kylie is not even trying to reign in her anger right now. She is lunging at me, repeatedly attacking, in an effort to land a blow. Each time she misses, she gets even angrier. Poor Kylie, this has to be eating her up inside. I knew she had her friends, and I use that term loosely, recording this. I was glad they did because they are more like frenemies. They don't like her either. They just do what she tells them to do because they are afraid of her. She needs the upcoming attitude adjustment. "Stop avoiding me, Luna. You are running all over the place, and you need to stop," Kylie finally huffed out. It was clear she was winded.
"I am not running anywhere, Kylie. The one running is you," I mocked.
She gave a low growl and tried to attack me again. She was really getting angry now. I didn't want her to go after someone else because she couldn't hurt me. Now was the time to start teaching my pack members. I am sure that Kylie won't mind being made an example of, as she cares about her fellow pack member's training. She just admitted as much at the start of this sparring match.
I turned to the side and motioned towards Kylie, "This is what you don't want to do. See how winded she is, breathing hard and sweating. She is getting angry now and is starting to attack blindly. You never want to do that. You need to be three steps ahead of your opponent. You need to anticipate what they are about to do so you can counter it," I told them, stepping back as Yuri told me that Kylie was lunging at us again.
Kylie missed me again and was sprawled on the ground. She was growling pretty loudly in warning, so I raised my voice to speak over her. "See what I did there. I worked hand in hand with my wolf to know when she was coming. I have known people like Kylie in my old pack. I knew that she was going to attack me while I was looking away from her. Kylie likes to fight dirty. I will say that when your life is on the line, you might have to fight dirty one day. That said, one usually doesn't fight dirty against your own pack member during training. I want you all to pay attention to what Kylie does next and how I counter her moves. I will explain as I go."
That did it; she was absolutely furious. If looks could kill, I would be dead and gone. That was what I was waiting for from Kylie. I could tell that Liam, Andrew, and David were on high alert, waiting to see what she would do next. I knew that they were going to jump in to try to 'save' me, but I didn't need their help with her. I mindlinked Liam to stay calm and to tell the Gamma and Delta that I could handle Kylie.
Kylie came at me fast, trying to punch me in my stomach. I blocked her punch by deflecting it with my left arm and then landing my own punch to her face with my other hand hand. She staggered backward, and blood was spurting out of her nose. I connected all too well. "See what happened there? Kylie is angry and attacking wildly. She is unfocused. But that was not her biggest mistake. Does anyone know what that was?" I asked them as Kylie touched her face and then stared at her bloody hand in surprise.
The silence was all around before Liam answered me, "She underestimated you."
"Beta Liam is exactly right. Kylie underestimated me; she knew nothing about me or how I trained. If we get attacked, there is no real way to learn how to fight your opponent other than learning as you fight. You need to pay attention to them and watch how they fight. Do they telegraph and let you know where they're trying to hit? Do they favor one side over the other? Do they have any injuries that you can use to your advantage in the fight?" I stated bluntly.
I knew she would attack again while I had my back turned to her, and I was ready for her. I met her face again, this time with the back of my elbow, as I spun around to hit her again. Kylie held her nose gingerly as she tried to set it herself before her wolf tried to heal it. She could concede to me now, but we both know she won't. She had too much pride to admit defeat. She does not even realize that she is playing right into my hands. If she had even given it a moment's thought, she would know just how much of a mistake she was making.
I knew why she refused to admit defeat because this match was being recorded. Her pride just wouldn't allow that. She came into this convinced I was going to be an easy target. I knew, as well as she did, that she would be phasing into her wolf soon. I am going to goad her until she does. Most wolves like to fight in their wolf form. I will, but I prefer to fight as long as possible in my human form. It saves my wolf's strength. I always wait to use Yuri's strength until my opponent is tired and making sloppy mistakes.
"So, you have been fooling us all this time? You can fight?" Kylie asked bitterly.
"You never asked me, Kylie, you just assumed. Yes, I can, and very well," I answered confidentially.
That was all it took as Kylie phased into her light brown wolf. Her clothing was ripped apart and scattered around us. I kicked the bigger pieces out of the sparring circle. I didn't need to trip now and give her the upper hand. She was on her last legs already, but Kylie wanted to draw blood. She wouldn't stop fighting until she did.
Liam tried to reason with her: "Kylie, you wanted this. You conned Luna into sparring with you. Don't be a bad sport because you are embarrassed by the outcome. I told you that you couldn't phase. You need to stop now and go home to change. The fight is over."
I scoffed, as Kylie was not going to stop. She was too deep now and wouldn't stop until I stopped her. "She can't, Liam. Her pride won't allow her to admit defeat. Don't worry, I can handle her," I told him. He looked unsure, but he stepped back out of the ring.
Kylie was pissed off, even more now than she was earlier. She leaped at me, and I flipped towards her, going into a gymnastic roll, which allowed her to sail over me. I would not miss this opportunity, "See what I did there? Kylie was leaping, so I flipped forward towards her. She can't stop once she is in the air, and she sailed right over me. Sometimes you need to wear your opponent down," I loudly reproached her under the guise of teaching.
The girl Kylie bullied at the start of this was smiling back at me. She was feeling better after being shamed in front of so many. I bet it made her feel better to know that Kylie was getting that and more done back to her. I winked at her and turned back toward Kylie again. She wouldn't fall for it again, but I didn't need her to. I was coming for her unprotected underbelly this time. Kylie was less likely to jump at me now. Her overshooting during her last attack had embarrassed her, but it was karma. I highly doubt that Kylie remembered how she had admonished the young she-wolf earlier in front of over a hundred people. Kylie didn't like looking foolish herself. No one did. Kylie needs to take the life lesson.
I managed to block the attacks Kylie was making as she kept trying to lock onto my arms or legs with her powerful jaws. She wanted to hurt me badly by scarring me permanently. I knew once she had a hold of me, she would not release me. I kept knocking her away and finally managed to get her to try to jump up again. This time, she was aiming for my neck. That was a kill move and most certainly not allowed in sparring. That was something to do when we were being attacked. I knew she was coming, and I rolled onto my back and pulled my legs in together.
I was not showing any mercy now, as Kylie had just tried to kill me. Why would I let her off with a warning? Liam was still recording, so it wasn't my word against hers. I rammed my strong legs into her unprotected underbelly as hard as I could. I was looking to break ribs. Not just one or two of them, but as many as I could. Kylie was even worse than I thought she was. I had underestimated her desire to be the Luna. Her intent had been to kill or maim me, and by the silence around us, they all knew it. Kylie had landed hard about eight feet away from me. She was having difficulty breathing, but I didn't care. This woman was ruthless. She did it to try to take my position in the pack. If I was not as well-trained as I was, she might have killed me today. She was aiming for my neck and going for my carotid artery. She wanted me to bleed out right here inside the sparring circle and die a horrible death. That was her intent. Now, she is back in her human form, naked and whimpering in pain.
