Chapter Benson 91

Chapter 91 The Divorce Bargain

Benson spent the entire afternoon in his study, handling work while the sunlight streamed through the curtains, illuminating the piles of documents on his desk.

The heavy atmosphere was broken by a knock on the door. His secretary, Maria, entered with a hesitant and concerned tone, saying, “Sir, your wife is back. She’s in the living room and seems to need to talk to you. Would you like to go see her?”

Benson was slightly taken aback to hear that Yvonne was back. He had expected her to return later. He lightly tapped the large oak desk with his metal pen, creating a crisp sound. “Did she say what it’s about?” Maria shook her head, looking slightly worried. “She didn’t say specifically, but she doesn’t look very happy.”

Benson remained silent for a moment before slowly rising from the large leather chair.

Maria watched his back and couldn’t help but speak again, “Sir, you and Mrs. Yvonne have been arguing a lot lately. She’s been very upset. Even if you have to argue, you should be more lenient with her. She has a good temper and is easy to comfort.”

Benson only responded with a grunt. He knew Maria was right. Yvonne indeed had a good temperament, but their relationship had always struggled to return to ts former harmony.

As he slowly walked down the spiral wooden staircase, his feelings were mixed.

When he arrived in the living room, he saw Yvonne sitting gracefully on the soft couch. Her skin was as fair as snow, her lips distinct, and her black long coat made her look exceptionally elegant.

However, her gaze toward him was icy, which slightly dimmed her beauty.

He sat down expressionlessly on the sofa opposite her and asked calmly, “Do you need something from

me?

Yvonne looked at the man before her. He always seemed to easily detach himself from situations, which made her extremely angry, yet she felt powerless to change anything.

She had been enduring, but now she clearly didn’t want to delay any longer. “I’ll exchange the evidence that Mary framed me for Marcus’s safety.”

Benson frowned upon hearing this, looking somewhat puzzled and surprised. “What?” His voice carried a hint of displeasure, almost suspicious.

Seeing Benson’s feigned confusion, Yvonne smirked sarcastically.

Her expression inevitably worsened Benson’s mood, and his voice grew colder. “Are you not considering my feelings as your husband at all now?”

“When have you ever considered mine?” Yvonne’s voice gradually lowered, her inner displeasure becoming evident. “In this broken marriage, you still talk about feelings–it’s ridiculous.”

No matter where she was, Yvonne had always tried to accommodate his feelings, yet she was met with continuous neglect. Facing herself in such a situation, Yvonne felt an unusual sadness.

The atmosphere in the room grew heavier, anger dominating Benson’s heart until he suddenly Temembered George mentioning that Marcus had once broken Mary’s leg in the hospital.

.so

He felt disgusted by Marcus’s actions. “If her leg is broken, so be it–it’s her own doing.” His voice carried a hint of relief.

In the current situation, Marcus’s lack of caution had been used against him, and Yvonne mistakenly thought Benson was involved. Now Benson understood, but the misunderstandings between them had already formed and wouldn’t be easy to resolve.

A slight smirk played at the corner of his lips, and his eyes flashed with cunning as he approached her step by step.

“In your mind, just how despicable am I?” His voice was deep and somewhat teasing, like a breeze in the night, carrying an alluring danger,

Yvonne looked at him, her face forming a determined smile, her disdain clear.

“If you were only having an affair and treating your wife poorly, I could let it pass.” Her voice was mocking and straightforward. Then she looked at him firmly, “Mr. Benson, my proposal is fair to you.”

Benson felt her determination and provocation. He moved closer, almost feeling the warmth of her breath.

His voice was slightly repressive but clearly conveyed his superiority. “This is your divorce bargaining chip. Do you really think you can have it both ways? Do you think this is reasonable?”

His tone carried an undeniable authority and a trace of barely noticeable anger.

Faced with his threat, a hint of helplessness crossed Yvonne’s heart. She knew she had to pay a price for what she wanted.

Her thoughts drifted to Marcus, the man who always silently supported her behind the scenes, her countless warmth and emotions. In comparison, Benson seemed always to be taking. Before coming here, she had repeatedly wamed herself that no matter what Benson demanded, as long as it involved Marcus, she would agree without hesitation.

She had her principles and determination, even if it meant enduring pain and hardship, to protect Marcus from any harm.

“I’m sorry, my previous answer was wrong. Let’s continue discussing your question.”

“If Mr. Benson thinks it’s not enough, I can add more. What do you want?” Yvonne’s voice held a hidden determination and urgency, as if anticipating the complexity of this negotiation.

“You know what I want, it’s about that thing.” Benson’s words were filled with teasing, his gaze scanning Yvonne up and down, as if appraising a valuable piece of art. This look made Yvonne feel like she was sitting on pins and needles.

Benson was actually a bit annoyed. He was furious that Yvonne kept easily mentioning Marcus–someone he saw as an obstacle in his love life. And now, Yvonne was directly asking him for help for Marcus, which made him both sigh and feel helpless.

Yvonne’s heart skipped a beat when she agreed, but her voice was exceptionally firm, “Fine.”

Benson was stunned. He hadn’t expected Yvonne to go this far for Marcus. His chest felt blocked, a bitterness he couldn’t describe. She was his wife, yet now she was in this situation for another man…

“Whatever you want, I’ll cooperate,” Yvonne said, looking him in the eye with determination that Benson found chillingly beautiful.

Benson suddenly grabbed her arm, his anger boiling like ignited gunpowder. “You!” His voice was choked and incredulous.

Yvonne smirked, wrapping her arms around his neck and pushing him toward the couch. Her movements were light but resolute, each one conveying her determination.

Benson’s gaze darkened, his emotions complex. In the end, he said nothing more, carrying Yvonne to the bedroom. Her body was slightly stiff in his arms, but apart from refusing to kiss him, she was more compliant than ever.

In the soft bedroom light, Benson saw an imperceptible sadness in Yvonne’s eyes.

It reminded him of the time Yvonne gave Marcus a repaired brooch.

Her expression had been equally reluctant then, and he just like now, chose to ignore her feelings.
