Benson

Chapter Benson 90

Chapter 90 Marcus’s Predicament

When Yvonne dragged her tired body home, she hesitantly picked up the envelope on the table.

The handwriting of Victoria was clear and flowing, exuding a motherly warmth. Her mother–in–law always provided the greatest support at critical times.

“Benson needs two days,” the simple words seemed to release all of Yvonne’s anxiety and tension. Gratitude filled her heart, transforming into a heartfelt thank you.

“Mom, thank you so much.” She replied casually.

In just a few seconds, her phone vibrated with Victoria’s swift and loving response: “You’re welcome, my dear daughter.”

Reading these words, a smile quietly crept onto Yvonne’s lips. Victoria wasn’t joking: even though she was no longer Victoria’s daughter–in–law, she was still her cherished one. This filled Yvonne with a sense of inexplicable warmth and security.

As night fell, the wind outside grew stronger, rustling the curtains with a whispering sound.

Lying in bed, Yvonne tossed and turned, unable to sleep. Her mind was a whirlwind of recent events.

She could almost be certain that Benson would agree to the divorce this time. As the son of the Taylor -family, under the pressure from his family and Victoria’s intervention, he seemed to have no reason to

refuse.

Reflecting on Benson’s coldness and his obvious favoritism toward Mary, the anger and disappointment in Yvonne’s heart gradually subsided, replaced by a sense of relief.

Indeed, Benson had never truly appreciated her, nor had he ever genuinely liked her. And now, someone was willing to cherish and appreciate her–that person was Marcus. Marcus’s gentleness and care had always been a rare comfort in her marriage.

“Maybe, a fresh start isn’t a bad thing,” she murmured to herself, gazing out into the deep night sky through the window.

After the divorce, she planned to reevaluate her life and give herself a new beginning. She hoped to build a deeper connection with Marcus, a relationship based on mutual respect and sincere emotions. Yvonne took a deep breath, feeling a sense of peace. She knew her journey was still long, but at least now, she had found her direction. On the path of seeking self–worth and happiness, she was no longer alone.

Yvonne realized that two days was neither too long nor too short, but she clearly understood what this period meant to her.

She tried to keep herself busy to avoid thinking too much about the impending outcome.

However, the next evening, an unexpected plece of news shattered her calm.

Bella invited Yvonne to dinner. Sitting in a cozy corner of a high–end restaurant, the two faced each other. Yvonne’s expression was calm, but there was an undetectable hint of anxiety in her eyes.

Bella’s voice was particularly clear in such an environment: “The pendant you asked me to keep an eye on, a jewelry shop owner posted it online.”

Yvonne’s heart skipped a beat. This was something she had never anticipated.

She had insisted on finding this pendant because it was not only a gift from Benson but also their token

of love.

She once thought that finding this pendant could bring back their past feelings. But now, her desire to find it had nothing to do with Benson.

She took a deep breath, trying to calm her inner turmoil “Try to buy it. I want to see if the pendant has any damage marks.” Her voice was calm.

Bella looked at her with a hint of confusion in her eyes. “You suspect… there’s someone else involved in Uncle John’s death?”

Yvonne nodded slightly. She had long suspected that Mary was involved. Mary knew too much, was too familiar with that pendant.

“Yes,” Yvonne replied, her gaze firm. Her intuition told her that Mary was involved.

However, she didn’t hope it was Mary because she didn’t want to have any more entanglements with these two people.

Of course, it was also possible that she was being overly sensitive.

They continued eating, but it was clear that Bella’s mind wasn’t on the food.

She had heard about Benson’s decision and was so angry that she was trembling. She looked at Yvonne and said firmly, “Divorce him quickly. He’s dirty and rotten.”

Hearing that Marcus had directly broken Mary’s leg, Bella’s affection for him soared.

“Thankfully, we have Marcus. He must come over for dinner,” Bella said, starting to contact him.

She picked up her phone and dialed Marcus’s familiar number, only to receive a mechanical busy signal.

Tapping the table lightly, Bella’s actions highlighted her frustration and worry. “Hey, just praised him, and he seems to have vanished into thin air,” Bella muttered, her tone filled with confusion and disappointment.

Yvonne nodded gently. Despite a growing sense of foreboding, she tried to remain calm and comfort Bella: “He might be really busy.”

As time passed, the post–dinner atmosphere grew more relaxed. Yvonne tried contacting Marcus again, but the result was still the same cold response.

Her heart began to race, as if sensing something ominous.

It wasn’t until Megan’s call shattered the subtle calm that Yvonne’s heart seemed to be tightly gripped. upon hearing that Marcus had been taken away by the police.

Her voice became urgent, filled with anxiety and unease: “What happened?”

Megan’s voice was unusually heavy: “I just came back from the hospital. The hospital’s security copied the surveillance video… someone paid a lot of money to buy all the records.”

This sentence struck Yvonne like a thunderbolt. She quickly gathered her thoughts, took a deep breath, trying to calm her mind: “I have to see this myself.”

When she arrived at the hospital, Mary’s appearance made Yvonne pause.

This woman, once walking ahead of others with her beauty and pride, now had a leg in a cast and still had scars on her face. She looked extremely fragile, having lost her former glamour.

A trace of hatred flashed in Mary’s eyes, as if she wanted to devour Yvonno alive. She sneered, her voice full of sarcasm: “It’s nice to have someone protecting you. And me? Do you think buying the surveillance can deal with me? Let me tell you, someone is willing to pay a higher price to get it back!” This sentence

deepened Yvonne’s unease. This “someone,” could it be Benson?

Every minute spent on the road, Yvonne pondered whether to directly ask Megan if this person was

Benson.

Megan’s answer was ambiguous, only saying that the matter was under investigation.

But apart from Benson, Yvonne couldn’t think of anyone else with such power.

Yvonne stared directly at Mary, her voice growing colder: “What will it take for you to drop the charges?” Mary’s answer was immediate and filled with hatred: “I won’t drop the charges. Marcus deliberately injured me, I want him in jail. Even if you beg me, I won’t let him go.”

Every word was like a blade, stabbing into Yvonne’s heart repeatedly.

Mary raised her voice arrogantly, each word dripping with a victor’s mockery: “Yvonne, your husband… in the end, stands on my side. You are nothing but a complete loser.”

Faced with Mary’s provocation, Yvonne chose not to say more.

She knew that any words at this moment were pale and powerless.

She turned and left the ward, her mind already made up. She must find Benson and talk to him in person. She needed to ensure Marcus’s safety.
