Chapter 119 

William’s P.O.V. 

Adam gulped hard while looking at me with a gaze filled with guilt. My mind. was hazy as I was having a hard time processing that it was Adam who did something to my mate so that she could live. “I… I am sorry, William. I… I didn’t know back then that she … she is your mate,” he whispered while lowering his gaze. 

I slowly walked towards him, my eyes glued to him. “Listen to me, William. Whatever he did, he had only one intention in mind, and that was to keep that girl alive. He didn’t have any other intention,” Theo tried to make me understand the situation. 

I stopped in front of Adam and stared at him blankly. “William,” Theo called. my name once again, but I didn’t answer him. I was still processing what I heard. His chin was almost touching his chest right now. “What’s her name?” I asked him in a very low voice after some time. 

He gulped hard before answering me. “Victoria,” he whispered, but didn’t lift his head up. “Victoria,” I whispered, still looking at him with the same blank gaze. “You knew her name all this time, right?” I asked him in an accusing tone this time. My voice was cold but filled with pain. 

“I am sorry, William. I am really sorry…. I… I.. ju… st cou… couldn’t muster the courage to.. to see her dying back then,” he whispered again, and a bitter smile appeared on my l*ps. Tears started building up in my eyes. 

“William,” I heard Theo calling me once again in a low tone. Without thinking. anything else, I pounced on Adam, and pulled him in a tight hug, taking him. off guard. I closed my eyes while putting my chin on his shoulder as we both were of the same height. He wrapped his hands around my waist after a few seconds. 

He was the reason that my mate’s b*dy, Victoria’s b*dy managed to survive the torture. He was the one who entered the blood in her b*dy that kept her. alive. “He tried to save her,” Aero whispered in a painful voice. “I am really sorry, William…. I am.. sorry,” he whispered in a choked tone this time. I felt a light vibration in his chest, indicating that he was crying silently. 

“You knew how painful everything was for her back then, right?” I asked him 

in a cracked tone this time. “Yeah… sh… she was in a great pain wh… when I met her for the first and the last time in the dungeons,” he replied to me. “You knew th.. that saving her would make her suffer more, right?” I asked him once again in the same tone. 

“I am sorry, William… I… I knew that b… but I… I really don’t know wh.. why I wanted to keep her alive,” he whispered once again in the same choked tone. “When Crystal managed to make me get out of those dungeons, I…. I, first. wanted to go find her, bu…. But th.. the vampire that h… elped me a… nd his family’s life was at stake. So…. so I left her there, bu… but no one fed on her after she left my cell. I don’t know the reason but… But I heard once, talking to them th.. that two vampires died after they tried to drink on her,” he told me further. 

I almost collapsed in his embrace, but he was holding me tightly, keeping me on my feet. “At that time, I … I guess th… that it was due to my blood in her system th.. that no other vampire manages to drink her blood again. Yo.. you can testify what I said, brother. I… I don’t know if what I did was wrong or right, but it was only instinct to keep her alive,” he continued telling me, and I just tightened my grip on his n*eck. 

“Thank you,” I whispered when he stopped. There was silence as I felt a strong vibration in his chest this time. “You did the wrong thing by saving her at that time because she had to endure more pain after that time, but your blood not only saved her but made her toxic for vampires. But I couldn’t ignore the fact that she is alive because of you,” I said further in a choked tone this time. 

“Albert told me th… that something is strange in her blood, an… and that strangeness i.. is the reason that she is still alive. I would have never found my mate if she had died there, Adam. You didn’t know back then that she was my mate, yet you saved her out of instinct. Thank you for not letting her die,” I continued and I whimpered in the end when my voice choked badly. 

His grip on my waist tightened immediately. I knew everything that he did for Crystal after she brought him here. He put his life in danger during the battle to keep Crystal safe. I was still angry with him for what he did back then, but he was trying hard to get everyone’s forgiveness. “We owe him for saving our mate,” Aero whispered at the back of my mind. 

“Yeah.. we owe him,” I replied in a choked tone. “I am sorry, William… II know that I should have told you earlier about her but I… I was scared. I was scared that it would increase your anger and hatred towards me, Adam said in 

a choked tone. 

“I am angry…. Yes…. But I never hated you, Adam. I was hurt by what you did with Crystal because you were my best friend and I didn’t expect that from you, but I never hated you,” I replied to him truthfully. He whimpered while tightening his grip on my waist. 

We stayed in the same position for a long time. I am at peace right now. Adam. and I were known for our friendship and the understanding between us. That was why his betrayal hit me hard. Everyone, including Crystal and my mother asked me to forgive him, but I didn’t want to. But I needed him as much as he needed me.

I slowly released him from my embrace. His eyes were still low, and I could see tears staining his face. “I am going back to the pack, Adam. Now, 

you to take care of her for me. Can you do that for me?” I asked him in a low tone while tilting my head lightly. 

He slowly lifted his head up. “But Albert said that you should stay with her for her quick recovery,” he said to me, and I nodded in agreement. “Yeah.. he said. so but I can’t stay out of the pack for a long time,” I answered him in a painful tone this time. I also didn’t want to go away from her. In the past five days, I have travelled to and fro between these two packs, but it has been really tiresome. 

He looked around while chewing on his inner cheeks. “I trust you, Adam. I know that she is safe with you,” I said to him further, and this time I looked at Theo who had a small smile on his l*ps. “I..if you don’t mind, then I can go to the pack on your behalf,” Adam said with hesitation and I looked at him while knitting my brows in confusion. 

“Vincent is taking good care of the pack in your absence. I can assist him in the pack’s work until you come back with Victoria. This way, you will get more. time to stay with her for a few more days,” he said further, and I chewed on my internal cheeks this time. 

“Let’s go inside and we can discuss this there,” Theo proposed, and both I and Adam looked at each other. I could see hope in Adam’s eyes. I nodded and we started walking towards the pack house. I was walking between Adam and Theo. We are all silent, as we all have our own thoughts going on inside our minds. 

Technically, the Alpha position of my pack was meant for Adam. If he wanted it back, I had no problem with that, but it was Alpha Adrian’s decision, and without discussing it with him, I didn’t think that it would be good to take this decision.

All the people whom we rescued from Marcus‘ dungeons were now wanted to go back to their packs, but two girls that we rescued from Victoria’s. cell died three days ago. Their condition was already worse, and the doctors here did everything to save them.. 

Victoria….. I felt a warmth inside my heart when I whispered her name in my mind. Now I knew her name, and it was a great progress for me. I was angry with Adam for not telling me her name earlier, but I understood his reason. He was scared, and I would have done the same thing if I were in his position. 

We entered the living room and found everyone sitting there. “Are you leaving now?” Mom asked me when we joined them. “Uhhhh… I have something to discuss,” I answered her in a stiff tone, making her raise her brows questioningly. 

“Where is Crystal?” Theo asked right after me. “She is in the hospital to see William’s mate,” Mom told me and I nodded while sitting on the couch in front of them with Theo and Adam. “Her name is Victoria,” I told them in a low tone, and all of them looked at us with confused expressions on their faces. 

“How did you know?” Mom asked me in a confused tone. I took a deep breath and looked at Adam. “I was with her in the cells there,” he told her this time, and everyone looked at him while raising their brows or narrowing their eyes. Adam immediately lowered his head. 

“He did nothing wrong. But he is the reason that she is still alive,” I said in a calm tone and put my hand on Adam’s hand on his knee. I felt him getting relax under my touch this time. Mom narrowed her eyes but nodded to me when I signalled her not to ask any questions about that. Adam was already guilty, and I didn’t want to burden him more. 

“Whatever he did to save her, I am glad that he did it and William got hist mate,” Luna Elena said with a small smile on her l*ps. Both of them were now better but still weak. They didn’t want to stay in the hospital, and that was why they were here with us. 

“You had something to discuss, William. What is it?” My father asked me in at calm tone this time. I tightened my grip on Adam’s fingers when I felt him getting nervous. “The thing is…. Albert told me that I should stay with Victoria until she wakes up. I can give her strength through the mate bond that can help her heal fast,” I started telling them what was in my mind. 

Dad nodded and signalled me to continue. “So..(I cleared my throat)… I thought th.. that Adam can go back to the pack and stay with Vincent to help him in my place so that I can stay with her. It… it’s not like he doesn’t about the work there,” I said in a firm tone while looking at Alpha Adrian, who was sitting with Luna Elena. He immediately narrowed his eyes on me, and Luna Elena raised her brows in surprise. 

“I just want to help. I have no intention of taking William’s place there. He… he is a good alpha and deserves that position better than me. As his friend, I… I should help him when he needs me,” Adam said in a firm tone but didn’t lift his head up. I was surprised to hear his explanation but I felt his sincerity in his words. 

“Even if you want to take William’s place, you can’t. You forgot that we have already discussed about you taking the alpha position after me,” Nelson spoke this time in a calm, firm tone, and all of us looked at him immediately with surprised expressions. I was really surprised to hear him. 

“What? Didn’t I tell you?” he asked while knitting his brows. “No, Nelson….. You said nothing about your decision,” Mom said annoyingly, but she grinned. when she moved her gaze on Adam. Like everyone else, I was also happy for Adam. I also looked at Adam and smiled when I saw a baffled expression on his face. 

“Both Kyson and Catherine also agreed with my decision. We are thinking about holding his alpha ceremony after Killian’s coronation,” Nelson said further, and Mom immediately cheered while clapping her hands like a child. I looked at Adam who had now tears in his eyes. I knew he was overwhelmed but I was now happy for him. After suffering so much, finally, he was getting what he really deserved. He is still my best friend and I wish that the Moon, Goddess give him a second chance mate soon.
