Chapter 49
ELEANOR
I clenched my fists tighter on my sides, gritting my teeth as a lost memory has been found within me. That is why he looks so familiar. I laugh to myself, thinking, “How the hell can I forget?"
I hear Elijah take his seat as well and I glance at him, who squared his shoulders and clasped his palms on the table in front of him.
His gaze fixed on Louie, Mike's only friend, and he shot him a dangerously threatening look which somehow made me feel warm inside. Aside from Alexander, no one else growled at any person like that to protect me. All of a sudden, I felt safe. In this place. In this pack.
My eyes grew wide when I realize what I was thinking about just now.
No, no, no, no.
Snap the hell out of it, Eleanor! You can't stay here any longer. You can't. I scolded myself as I thought about him. Alex. However I feel about this pack, I just can't.
“Eleanor!” Elijah’s loud voice startled me enough to pull me put of my thoughts. I jumped in my seat, glancing at my surroundings and noticed everyone was giving me a confused look, except for Louie. It seemed I was staring hard at him for a while now, and he sits there pretending not to know why I was staring at him. I saw a bead of sweat fall on the side of his face as he tore his gaze from me to look at the wall beside him. He looked like he was cursing himself for acting out of impulse, that gave away his true identity to me.
Devin cleared his throat and spoke.
“You said you had scars all over your body. Can you show us any of your scars on “safe” body parts? For example your arms, stomach, feet or legs?” His voice was calm, almost soothing. Hell, he could almost sound like Alexander, but immediately after I erased that thought. No voice sounded as cool as Alexander's, I thought to myself, coming to an agreement with Ares. I blushed when I realized I kept mentioning Alex when he’s not even here at this moment.
“Oh admit it. You miss him’ Ares pointed out, and I groaned but didn't tell her otherwise. Maybe it was true. Maybe I do miss him after all. It's only been two days since he left for something he termed important.
I shrugged, shaking off all thoughts of Alexander inside my mind when Ares kept whispering to me Devin is safe, and can be trusted. I don't know how the hell she knows that but I sigh, and stand up anyway.
“Fine’ I whisper back to her as I stood.
Right now I was wearing a dark red long-sleeve top and black leather pants coupled with three- inches high boots, also black.
I began rolling up my sleeves. My eyes grew wider and wider when I saw nothing but smooth creamy skin, flawless even. I gasped as I rolled up the other sleeve and saw the same thing.
It's not right.
I hurriedly ran to the bathroom not realizing I left four men at the table watching me with shocked gazes as I ran.
“Luna!” Elijah called but I wasted no time and locked myself in the bathroom. Stripping each one of my clothes, I began seeing myself in the body-length mirror in front of me.
I let out a gasp when my body...didn’t look exactly like I remembered it to be.
It was..flawless. Smooth, milky skin that appeared as if it had never been beaten to death in the past years.
I stood wearing only my bra and underwear. My back hitting the wall as I slowly slid down it and I hugged my knees closer to my chest.
The sound of the bathroom door banging was the least of my concerns anymore as I took in my change of appearance.
Seconds later, I hear the door burst open with a loud bang. My gaze was still fixed on my reflection in the mirror when Elijah stepped in front of me.
“Luna, what were you thinking?” He crouched down in front of me and I stared right through him this moment, not able to think or feel anything other than fear.
Is this a bloody part of my fucking curse again?
"My scars..." I whispered.
"What?" Elijah furrowed his brows, looking only at my face in confusion.
“They're gone... My scars...are gone.”
The next moment I hear footsteps of three men come close as they entered the bathroom. Oddly, the sound was too loud in my ears and I find myself struggling to adjust with my enhanced senses. I glanced up at them who stared at me wide-eyed
“Ms. Raven, you will be coming with us for further investigation.” Devin straightened whilst Louie flashed me a cocky smirk. I didn't think much of it as I nodded absent-mindedly, wondering what the goddess would throw my way next.
"She's not going anywhere” Elijah stood from crouching and blocked me from their vision. He grabbed my clothes on the rack and threw them to my face.
Glancing up his back I could see him stare each one of them down. Devin and Sam glued their lips shut, not saying a single word whilst Louie chuckled, taking a step forward as if to challenge Elijah. "We have every fucking right, motherf*cker,"He spatted at him.
Before Louie can even take another step, Elijah quickly extended his one leg, kicking Louie's feet as he made a full spin crouched on the floor. With another swift move, he was back standing on his two feet whilst Louie fell sidewards to the floor, slamming his head and he cried out in shock and pain.
Elijah had moved extremely fast no one even saw it coming. Especially Louie.
Louie growled lowly and was about to jump back up when Elijah quickly pressured his neck using his right leg. I gasped and watched Elijah’s leather boot dug deeper on his neck, forcing him back down the floor as he gurgled. His face turned purple and I wondered, can he even breathe? Leaning down, Elijah rested his elbow on his right knee, staring down at Louie's face with a grim look on his face.
"Say it again, and I'll break your fucking neck ” He snarled, and I flinched back in my spot. His voice sounded deadly at this point.
Louie tried to wriggle out of his leg but then Elijah pushed his feet further to hold the man’s jaw. Keeping him in place. A thick blue vein popped out in his neck as his expression hardened.
"You son of a—" His words were cut off when Devin stepped up, shoving his hand in his pockets. I glanced up at him whose face appeared indifferent as he stared down at his companion pinned on the floor.
“Stay down, Roberts.” He commanded
The man named Louie grunted but stopped wriggling under Elijah’s foot.
Devin then took one careful step forward, as though he didn't want to intimidate Elijah any more than Louie already have.
He takes out a folded paper then handed it over to Elijah. He took it and unfolded the paper as quickly as he grabbed it from Devin's hand.
“I hate to say this but, Louie's right. We do have the authority as we were given such right by the Alliance. You know the rules, beta. There's nothing I can do.”
Elijah stares hard at the paper for a few seconds before handing it back to Devin. He lets out a frustrated sigh before removing the pressure off Louie's neck.
He whirls and trudges over to me and I give him a fearful look.
"Forgive me, Luna. But you need to go.” He lowers his head as if to conceal the look of guilt on his face.
Fear and worry instantly swept through me, my heartbeats began increasing both in pace and sound.
What should I do?
If they take me in for investigation, they would definitely sniff out my wolf. I expected this since I've already turned eighteen, and I don't know how long I can go masking her scent when it's getting stronger. Ares is getting stronger.
“Wait, Ellie. I think this is for the best." Ares whispered
“What?’ I shook my head at her in disbelief.
“We don't know when exactly will the curse take effect, but we do know it'll happen if we don't get out of this pack soon. We'll put then in grave danger. Alpha Alex will be in grave danger.’ Ares reasoned, and I nodded slightly. Taking in a sharp breath and shutting my eyes firmly before opening them again to meet Elijah’s gaze.
"Okay, I'll go. Please tell them to get out first so I can change” I say, earning me a surprised look from Elijah. His brows knitted closely together as he stared at me as though I've grown two heads. He nods though, and doesn't say anything more about it which made me sigh in relief.
He ordered them out of the room and the first two immediately made their exits without a word, whilst Louie still struggled to stand and it took him a while before he was finally able to stand. He whimpered and now seemed to be evading Elijah’s piercing glare. The murderous aura oozing off Alexander's strong beta seemed too much for someone like him. Someone whose heart was as hard as my father's own beta.
After he left, Elijah spins around to face me. Taking me aback with his worried look.
“I'll come with you, my Luna. I promised the Alpha I'll protect you.” He states with genuine concern in his firm tone.
It made my lips curve up into a smile, and my heart suddenly felt lighter than it ever did before.
I shook my head and said, “No. Stay here, with Veronyka and the others.”
Elijah looked at me defiantly and just when he opened his mouth to offer a retort, I cut him off with my next words.
“As your future Luna, I command you to do as I say and leave.” I say sternly, feeling guilt consume me before I even blurted out those words.
That shuts him up though, and he steps back, lowering his head.
"As you wish, Luna” He says quietly and strides out the room.
I sighed. My eyes darting to the clothes scattered on the floor. I then scooped them up in my hand and headed straight to the tiny dressing room.
After changing, I stepped outside only to find four men staring at me.
