Chapter Thirty–Four: We’re In This Together
Kiara, at the age of twelve
Kiara POV
Panting. I dropped dead on the floor in the participant tent. Beta Tim and Gamma Chris weren’t kidding when they said the kings wouldnt go easy on me. They had me run twenty miles around the grounds in under seven minutes. They gave me three minutes to develop the offence and defence battle strategy, given a scenario we were under attack; they made me run an obstacle course in ten minutes, dodging warriors‘ attacks and weapons, climbing over walls, jumping and using weapons. But if that wasn’t enough to end it all, they had me spar with another she–wolf candidate, and at the absolute end, they had me spar with them, which was next to impossible since they were giants compared to me. The only hit I could get in was on their legs. And to top that off, they had even shifted into their wolves. But what caught me off guard was that whenever I tried to get a shot in on their wolves, they used to discreetly back away or let me get the hit in, I don’t know if it was in my head or if that was the case, but the way they had. treated me compared to the other she–wolves seemed to be different. Ast if their wolves were afraid to hurt me, which was dumb because I was

like every other she–wolf candidate competing for the scholarship.
I was broken out of my thoughts when I saw a cold glass of ice water pushed in front of my face. I sat up on my arms and saw JJ grinning down at me
“Damn, Kiki! When did you get so strong and fast? You were killing it out there.” Said JJ as I snatched the glass of water and drank it like I was a dehydrated monkey in the Sahara desert on earth
“Stop exgarating, JJ. Even if I got everything else right, I couldn’t spar well enough with King Kayden and Jayden. I heard that the other she- wolf candidates did well in the sparing. I’m the shortest of all the candidates giving me negative points in combat. I don’t think I’m going to make it.” I said, tears brimming my eyes.
“Hey, hey, stop! Don’t say that, Kiki. You did great. You may not think so, but I could tell how impressed everyone was.” Said JJ, hugging me as tears slipped down my eyes.
I wasn’t sure if I was crying that I wouldnt be staying with JJ for the scholarship or that I had let down Beta Tim and Gamma Chris but, more importantly, the kings. King Jayden and King Kayden had stoic. faces when the trails were complete. I couldn’t tell if they were disappointed or happy. I don’t know why but for me, their opinion of me always mattered to me, I wanted them to like me, but right now, I feel like I failed them.
“He isn’t lying, Kiki! You killed it out there; I could tell Kay and Jay were even impressed.” I heard Rex’s voice come from the entrance of the tent.

I looked in his direction and saw him coming my way. Once he did, he bent down and took me in his arms. I snuggled more into his embrace, snilling
“You really think so.” I asked.
“Hey! I know so. Don’t you trust me?” Said Rex, making me look at him.
I couldn’t help but admire Rex at the moment. He was always so nice to me through the years I had been here; he was my rock, the reason why JJ’s absence was not felt as bad, but no matter what, I don’t know why I always wanted to spend more time with his big brothers then him..
Just as I was about to say something to him and JJ, our names were called out on the microphone, calling all the candidates out for the results. My heartbeat was going crazy as JJ and Rex helped me up and walked on either side of me as we made our way to the sparring. grounds. We stood alongside the other forty candidates facing the kings, Beta Tim, Gamma Chris and the warriors who were supposed to select the scholarship recipients.
From the corner of my eye, I saw mom, daddy, the triplets, auntie Mcg, JJ’s parents and Rex’s parents, and the crowd of the other candidate’s families and friends.
“First of all, we would like to express our gratitude to all those who had helped set up these trails for the candidates and the candidates who have travelled from across multiverses to participate in these trails for the warrior scholarship. As you all know, the warrior scholarship is
one of the most prestigious scholarships the wolf kingdom offers. Only the best of the best are selected for it. But as much as King Jayden and I would love to take on all of you, there are only a limited number of seats. However, remember one thing: whether you are chosen today or not, always know you are all winners. To come here and complete the tasks you all did is beyond praise, it’s magnificent. It just shows how many young and talented warriors we have in the mix of our race that will no doubt make us your kings and this kingdom proud.” Said, King Kayden
