Chapter 6
“Myra sweetie.” Aunt Mary called to her from the kitchen.
The pack house was fairly quiet today when she had woken up. The boys, her friends, had made her a lovely apology breakfast full of toasts and eggs. Bacon was included as well and she had loved it. They had apologised but she had said it was alright. They were all sitting in the living room with a few other girls and boys and watching a movie called White Chicks.
“Coming.” Myra called out to Aunt Mary who was I’m the kitchen with a few girls and boy teaching them how to cook.
Myra pulled herself up from the comfortable seat and walked out of the living room, Kyle waving bye bye to her and jumping in her seat from the ground. She rolled her eyes at him as she walked through the bright hallway and pushed the kitchen door open. She walked inside, pushing her hair behind her shoulder. Myra pulled her denim jacket up her shoulder as she smiled at Aunt Mary. Liv had been giving her clothes every day until she could go shopping today to buy more.
“Hi.” Myra greeted Aunt Mary as she looked at all the brownies on the plates.
“Darling, do you think you can get Elias out of his office? Tell him I need to see him now. His mindlink is blocked and I can’t walk up so many stairs,” Aunt Mary sighed as she shook herself at herself. “And get the boys in here today. I’m going to teach them how to bake cakes today. Would you like to join us? It’s for the orphanage tonight.” She smiled at her.
Go get him go go go. Luna groaned in her mind excitedly, as she wagged her tail.
“I’ll go get him.” Myra smiled at her politely as she turned around and walked out of the kitchen, hearing Aunt Mary tell the people to go and take the brownies to the orphanage.
Myra quickly jogged past the living room and towards the stairs.
“Where are you going?” Ryan called out to her as he popped his head out the open door.
“I’ll be back. Just doing something for Aunt Mary!” She answered him back as she ran up the stairs.
Myra had not seen Elias yesterday after he had accepted her into the pack. After her small incident in the lake, she calmed herself down and changed back into her clothes. The boys were still playing in the lake even when they apologised to her. Myra had laughed when they tried to make a floating heart with their bodies on the water and completely failed. She had spent all day at the lake house, meeting new people, meeting Lucy the screamer as everyone liked to call her. Apparently she liked to scream at everyone. Myra had not received the screams yet which she was thankful for. They had eaten food at the lake house and Kyle had got completely drunk. They had offered her a drink but she had declined and just enjoyed her time at being normal for once. They had come home so late and so tired that she had fallen asleep without saying a word to anyone.
Myra stopped at the top step as she looked around at the doors in the hallway. There were over 20 doors, leading to different rooms. Her room was opposite Liv’s room. The sun was shining brightly through the window at the end of the hallway. She turned to her left and headed up another set of stairs, following Elias’s scent. She had no idea where his room or office was but she followed his scent. Elias’s scent was powering, it made her body warm up as it filled her mind. Citrus with a drop of musk. Clean. She didn’t know how to describe it but when he had accepted her into the pack, she could scent it then. It was overwhelming and made her body want to burst in flames.
Myra reached the top floor. There were only two doors here and she followed his smell to the door on the right. Myra knocked on the door and waited.
“Come in.” He called out to her and she pushed the golden handle down and walked into his office.
Her eyes landed on him first, reading a file on the wooden desk. Elias looked handsome with a hint of devil in his eyes. She could see it as he looked up at her and placed the papers down immediately.
“Hi.” He said to her as she walked into the room. Myra could see the wall full of cameras. Every corner of his territory was being monitored. Every room was shown in the cameras, some were blacked out. She could see her friends watching the movie in the living room and she smiled to herself. She had never seen anything like this but it made her feel safe knowing he could see everything happening on his land.
Myra let her eyes wander around the office. It was a huge room with high ceiling and a simple long tube light in the middle to brighten the place up. It was not needed though. The sun from the windows reflected off onto the white walls making the room bigger than it seemed. Shelves of books were stacked together behind Elias as he waited patiently for her to finish gawking at the place.
“Its wonderful.” She whispered to him, her eyes finding the cameras again. She had never seen this in her old pack.
“Every bedroom has a button besides their bed to switch the cameras off and give people privacy. When the room is not being used, it is required by everyone living in this house that they switch the cameras back on.” Elias explained to her as he walked towards her.
Myra could feel her heart beat faster with every step he took closer.
“The common rooms like the living room and the kitchens are constantly watched.” He told her as he pointed to the cameras. She turned around and watched them. “The sound works as well. I have it all connected to my phone,” Elias pulled out his phone and unlocked it in front of her. He opened up an app and the footage was being recorded live on his phone as well. “It makes it easier for me when I’m not in the office.”
“I love it.” She answered him and he chuckled to himself. “Did you not hear Aunt Mary though?” She asked, pointing to the camera in the kitchen. Aunt Mary was packing the brownies in boxes and giving them to the boys and girls to take away.
“The sound is silent.” He told her and Myra nodded as she turned to look at him. Elias was standing close to her. A small part of her wanted to take a step back.
No. Luna growled at her.
“Aunt Mary wants to see you.” Myra told him quietly as she saw him staring at her. His eyes ran over her face slowly and he nodded, reaching his hand out and pointed to the office door.
“After you.” He said politely.
She nodded, turning around and walking to the door quickly. Myra tried to calm her racing heart as she felt his eyes on her.
“How was your day yesterday?” He asked her as she waited for him to lock the office door.
“It was good. The lake is beautiful and I had a lot of fun.” She told him truthfully as she walked down the stairs with him.
“I’m glad you did.” He glanced at her.
“There you are!” Ryan ran up the stairs. “Good afternoon, Alpha.” Ryan addressed Elias with respect as he bowed his head.
“How are you, Ryan? Ready for tomorrow?” Elias asked him with a smile on his face.
“Oh you have no idea how excited I am!” Ryan exclaimed.
Myra remembered what Kyle had said to her about Ryan going up to the mountains tomorrow to hunt.
“Can I come?” She turned to look at Elias as she asked.
“Yes. We’re all going to go.” Ryan looked at her with a big grin on his face.
“No.” Elias answered her as he unbuttoned the top button on his white shirt. She forced herself not to look at his chest that was peeking out from his shirt.
“Why not?”
“It’s dangerous, Myra.” Elias said to her.
“But Alpha we will all be there as well.” Ryan pointed out to him quietly. Elias gave him the Alpha look that scared her a million times before. It promised violence and death if you went against the word of an Alpha.
Ryan lowered his head in submission as she walked towards him. She wrapped her arm through his, ignoring the low growl from Elias. “Let’s go.” She smiled at Ryan and pulled him away from Elias.
They walked downstairs, arm in arm, ignoring Elias chuckling behind her as she called out to the other boys from the living room.
“Aunt Mary is calling you.” She told them as they followed her and Ryan into the kitchen where Aunt Mary was getting stuff out of a tall cupboard.
“Aunt Mary, let me.” Josh quickly walked towards her and pulled the cake tins out of the cupboard. There were at least ten of them.
“Josh what a gentleman.” She chuckled softly as he smiled at her and put the cake tins on the counter.
“Elias. I have been waiting for you.” Aunt Mary crossed her arms and glared at him.
“Sorry.” He apologised as he walked towards her. “I was busy sorting some papers out for Andrew.” He leaned down and kissed her on the cheek.
The backdoor slammed open and Zac, the Beta walked inside, panting and out of breath.
“I’m here Aunt Mary. I’m here.” He sighed breathlessly.
Myra had not met Zac like she had met Brian and the others. Zac and Liv usually kept to themselves. She knew they were Elias’s friends and not hers. She didn’t even know how old Elias was. Myra stared at Elias as he chucked at Zac and gave him a bottle of water as Aunt Mary laughed at him.
“I wasn’t going to kill you.” Aunt Mary said to him as she pushed her silver hair behind her ear.
“You are the devil in disguise, Aunt Mary.” Zac chuckled as he shook his head at her.
Myra liked this pack house. They were a family, not like the rumours that said they were scattered all across the world. The Shadow pack were here, in one place surrounded by a million cameras that kept others out before they could reach this land. They worshiped the ground Aunt Mary walked on. Elias was their Alpha but Aunt Mary was the boss of them all and Myra liked that every single one in the Shadow pack respected her.
“I need you guys to make some cakes today for the orphanage. Andrew is having his birthday and his adoption day today. As a pack we need to be there for him,” Aunt Mary explained to them all as she walked towards the door and closed it. “So get your partners and make me cakes.”
“But Aunt Mary we will burn the kitchen down.” Brian groaned at her as he pouted as well.
“I will be here to help you.” She smiled at him as she crossed her arms. Brian nodded at her, mumbling something under his breath that Myra’s wolf hearing could not hear.
“Myra is my partner!” Ryan told everyone.
“Really?” Elias raised an eyebrow at Ryan who shook his head quickly and pulled his arm away from hers. “You’re going to be partners with my soulmate?”
Ryan immediately shook his head. “I’ll be partners with Kyle.” He grinned at Kyle who rolled his eyes with a small smile on his face.
Myra crossed her arms as she stared at Elias who smirked at her.
“You know I’m just going to burn the kitchen down.” Zac pointed out to everyone. “I need Liv.” He pouted at Aunt Mary.
“Ew. Don’t talk about my sister like that.” Brian rolled his eyes at Zac who stood up and stretched his arms out. He pushed his long brown hair up into a small man bun.
“Your sister is my mate.” Zac laughed at him as Brian rolled his eyes again and went to work with Andy. Josh and Zac were working together but Myra knew Josh was an excellent Baker. He had told her yesterday at the lake house when she had said the muffins were really nice. He had grinned and said he had made them.
Myra could feel Elias’s eyes on her.
“I want two chocolate cakes, red Velvet and two vanilla cakes.” Aunt Mary grinned at them all as she pulled out one of the chairs next to the table. She sat down and leaned back as she looked at them. “Go ahead. There are enough ovens in this kitchen to bake 20 cakes, so I don’t want any excuses.”
Myra smiled at her as Aunt Mary winked at her.
“We will make a chocolate cake.” Elias said to her as he walked towards her. She didn’t answer him, as she picked up two cake tins and the cake mixtures that Aunt Mary had already placed on the counter.
Everyone started talking around them as Myra looked at them. They pulled out all the hand mixers from a white cupboard as she glanced at Aunt Mary who was reading a book quietly.
“I’ll get everything.” Elias said to her as she stood in the corner of the kitchen. The kitchen was huge and she watched as Elias opened a couple of the cupboards and pulled out mixing bowls and hand mixers and spatula. She knew it was a baking cupboard as he pulled out fondant.
Myra knew how to cook from a very very young age. She had learnt how to bake with nothing to do in the house and Alpha Tom had demanded she learn everything so she could be a perfect quiet housewife to Alpha Jackson. She watched Elias unbutton his sleeves and pulled them up to his elbows. She was fascinated by that simple move as he picked up all the stuff and walked towards her. He stopped walking when he noticed her gaze. She didn’t know what was happening to her as she stared at him. He smirked and it seemed to snap her out of the trance.
Jump his bones. Luna said dreamily.
Myra blocked her out of her mind as she walked up to Elias. His gold eyes seemed to glow the closer she got. She didn’t care that everyone could probably hear her heart beating as she lifted the mixing bowls out of his arm. Myra turned around her, the back of her dress hitting his black pants as she walked back to her counter. Every pair had a different counter to make and Myra could see them all still reading the ingredients on the cake mix. Joshua was already measuring everything while Zac was trying to switch the hand mixer on.
“I’ll make one and you can make one.” Elias said besides her as she placed everything on the counter alongside him.
“I’ll make both of the mixtures.” She told him.
Myra lifted the big mixing bowl and placed it in front of her. She could feel Elias’s eyes on her, watching every single thing she did. Myra opened both of the chocolate cake boxes and poured the powder into the mixing bowls. She tried to ignore his eyes as she measured the water.
“Eggs.” She said to Elias.
She heard him chuckle as he walked away from her. She watched him open another cupboard and pulled a tray full of eggs.
“Eggs are here boys.” He placed them on the counter as he picked up six eggs and walked towards her with a smirk on his face.
Myra had no idea why he was smirking or what he found funny as he held the eggs out to her. She cracked each of them into the mixing bowl and was done. It was that simple. Myra heard the mixers of others in the background as she felt Elias’s body against hers.
“What are you doing?” She breathed out, her heart pounding in her chest as she felt him take a step closer to her.
She felt him lean down closer to her. “I like this.” He whispered softly into her ear.
Myra shut her eyes as she faced the counter. She could hear Elias’s heart beating as well as he placed his hand above hers. She was holding the counter tightly.
Myra had never felt so alive in her whole life, as she asked, “What?”
It was a soft breathless word and she felt him chuckle against her ear. Something was completely and utterly wrong with her.
“I saw you on the first day and you were scared of me. I could see the fear in your eyes, smell it on you.” He whispered to her so softly that she knew nobody else would hear them. “In a couple of days,” he chuckled as he removed her hand from the counter and held her hand tightly. “I see this fire in you.” He lifted their joined hands up to her neck.
She pulled her around her neck, giving him full access to her neck.
“So?”
Myra lost sense of every word in her dictionary and her mind as she felt Elias kiss her shoulder as he pushed her jacket to the side. Sparks. They were europhic, making every inch of her body seem like it was on fire.
“It’s alluring what a mate bond can do.” Hos voice was deep but low as he whispered the words into her ear. “I want to pick you up and take you to my room.”
“Why?” She breathed out as he tightened his hold on both of her hands.
“To ravish you.” Her heart beated faster as the world around them disappeared. He wrapped his arms around her, placing his hands on her shirt. “You may not want to be my mate, Myra, but I will always be yours.” It was the promise in his voice that made her want to say I want to be your mate. It was a promise of patience and understanding.
“Elias and Myra please remove your hands from each other. Do not make me pull you by the ear and take you to the dog house. Not in my kitchen.” Aunt Mary called out to them loudly.
Elias chuckled as Myra elbowed him in his stomach. He removed his arms around her and she turned around to see all of them staring at her. Ryan had a grin on his face and so did Zac as the others laughed at her burning face.
“Get back to work.” She muttered to them all as she faced away from them and towards the counter again.
Everyone burst out laughing at them as she felt her face heating up again. She was aware of every inch of Elias’s body as he stepped towards her. Myra turned around to face him quickly before he could touch her again.
He smirked at her as he held the hand mixer in his hands. “I’m just trying to plug this in.” He chuckled as he took a step towards her again.
“I’ll do it.” She took it out of his hands and did not turn just in case he tried to make her stomach do backflip again.
“What would you like me to do, Myra?” She heard the double meaning in his voice that held a hint of smugness.
He’s so hot. Luna sighed dreaming as if she was in love.
“Sit there.” She pointed to the grey stool.
“And watch you? Okay.” He chuckled as he pulled a stool from the breakfast table and sat down on it.
Myra shook her head to herself as she turned around and plugged the mixer in. Letting out a deep breath, she put the mixer in the bowl and turned it up to one until the flour was not flying out.
What’s wrong with me, Luna? Myra asked softly as she felt his eyes wandering over her body, as if he was memorizing every inch of it.
You have met your mate. You have urges and he is such a beautiful tease. She sighed.
So I want to sleep with him? Myra asked confused once the mixture was done. She switched the mixer off as she felt and heard Elias walking towards her.
My beautiful queen, you want to do a lot more than sleep with him. Luna wiggled her eyebrows at her.
Myra rolled her eyes as she faced Elias.
“Line the tins with parchment paper.” She told him and watched him chuckle again. “What’s so funny?” She asked, confused.
Elias stepped towards her. She felt herself stop breathing as he leaned down towards her. “I find it cute that you’re ordering me around.” He kissed her on the cheek and pulled back.
Elias laughed at her wide eyes as he turned away from her to cut the parchment paper out.
He was listening to her. She had never seen a man listen to a woman before. She knew her pack had been sexist but seeing an Alpha listen to her was making her feel strange. She had never seen an Alpha listen to anyone let alone her.
“I’m sorry.” Myra apologised to him softly so nobody would hear them.
Elias immediately turned around to face her, his eyebrows were furrowed. “Why are you apologising? You have done nothing wrong.” He shook his head at her as if he was confused.
“I don’t mean to order you around.” She told him quietly.
Elias chuckled as he walked towards her. He lifted her face up by holding her chin gently. “You’re my mate, Myra. You can tell me to run naked around the pack house to make you smile and I would do it.” He grinned at her as she rolled her eyes at him.
“Let’s finish making this cake for Andrew.” He said to her and she nodded aa she heard Brian complaining to Aunt Mary that his mixture was too soft.
“Is there a party at the orphanage?” She asked him as he placed the four tins on the counter in front of her.
Elias leaned against the counter and nodded as she poured the batter into the tins equally. “It’s for all the little children tonight. They’re all excited because they’re going to be staying up way past their bedtime.” He smiled to himself. “One of the pack members has been wanting to adopt Andrew for a while but I wanted to see him with the family for a few months before I let them sign the papers.”
She smiled to herself once she was done with the batter.
She wondered if the children were happy at the orphanage or if they waited for a family to pick them. She knew abandonment felt like and she prayed no child ever went through that.
“There are only five children left at the orphanage now. The rest have been adopted into families.” Elias said to her as he noticed the frown on her face. “Usually when a woman is pregnant and she herself knows she does not want the child, she will give the child up for adoption with no intention of coming to claim their child again. It’s a long process but I’ve always made sure there would be a place for the orphans in my pack.” He explained to her and she smiled to him softly.
“You’re not really who they say you are.”
Elias grinned and winked at her. “To the world I am a monster. To you I am your soulmate.”
She smiled at him as he picked up the tins and walked to the oven.
You are totally crushing. Ryan blurted out in her mind. She whipped her head to look at him and he was wiggling his eyebrows at her.
No I’m not. Shut up. She rolled her eyes at him.
Ryan laughed in her mind as he answered her, You won’t mind if I steal him for a night? Maybe he can have a threesome with Kyle and I.
Myra choked on air as she stared at him with wide eyes. Immediately Elias turned to look at her.
“What’s wrong?” He asked as he placed the tins on the counter and walked towards her. Everyone turned to stare at her as she shook her head.
“Nothing.” She muttered.
“She was just choking. I think she has terrible gag reflexes.” Ryan sighed dramatically as she glared at him.
Elias burst out laughing as Myra groaned loudly.
“I am surrounded by idiots.” She muttered to herself.
“Hey! I’m not an idiot!” Zach protested.
I can be your idiot. Elias whispered into her mind as she groaned loudly.
“Aunt Mary can you tell them all to leave me alone please?” Myra turned to Mary who put her book down slowly.
Immediately everyone stopped talking as she turned towards them. “Leave Mhra alone before I drag your asses outside and make you fight me.”
“Sorry Aunt Mary.” They all apologised to her and Myra grinned as Mary winked at her.
She was slowly getting happier and happier.
