Alec’s

Chapter 0190

She lowers her arms to her side.

"Hi" she says in an awkward tone and a half smile.

I stare at her, not really sure what the hell to do. The woman standing before me used to be my best friend. I knew everything about her and vice versa. Now I look at her and a stranger stares back at me.

I should move, but for some reason I can't. While Alec got his green eyes from their mother, Piper got her father's brown eyes. I stare at those brown eyes, wondering what made her betray me.

It's something that has bothered me for three years. We were closer than sisters, yet she dropped me the moment trouble came my way. I guess blood really is thicker than water, because why would she take her brother's side?

We've known each other since we were toddlers. Shouldn't she have known my character by then? Shouldn't she have realized that I would never do anything to jeopardize someone else's mate bond? Shouldn't she have known that I would never force my love on anyone, let alone take someone's mate?

When I don't reply, her smile falls. She then begins shuffling from one foot to another while avoiding my eye, something that she does when she's nervous.

Sighing, start moving around her, but her voice stops me, so that she's speaking to my back.

"I'm sorry," she begins in a soft voice. "I never apologized for the part that I played three years ago. I chose to stand by Alec, completely forgetting that you are my best friend. I should have trusted you. Trusted in our friendship and realize that you would never do anything to cause me or Alec pain."

She pauses as her voice catches.

"You've got one thing wrong," I tell her when she doesn't continue. "I was your best friend. Past tense, Piper."

"Sadie..." I could hear it in her voice and I knew she was about to cry.

Seeing or hearing her cry would have affected me, but not now. Not after everything that has happened between us.

"Are you done?" I ask, cutting off. My anger was starting to surface, and I didn't want her to see me lose my shit.

"I'm sorry, Sadie," she sniffles. "I just want you to know that. To know just how much I regret hurting you."

I'm unable to hold back anymore, so I turn, narrowing my eyes at her slightly red one.

"Let's cut to the chase, Piper; what do you want?"

"I don't understand what you mean" she whispers, her brows furrowed as if she's genuinely confused.

"Let's be real here; you betrayed me and then stood by while your brother and his packmates did horrible things to me. Not once did any of you regret it, and I doubt you regret it now, so what is it?" FindNovel

She opens her mouth to speak, but I continue, cutting her off.

"Alec needs me because I am the only hope he has to deal with the damn curse. As for you, I guess you want me to spare Calvin, right? You think shading a few tears and saying some words will move me, and I'll let your

mate go."

"That's not why I'm apologizing at all," she tries to defend herself but I just don't buy it.

"You and your brother are the same. You are being remorseful because you want something from me. That's the only reason you are keeping up with the damn pretense of being sorry."

I watch tears falling down her face. A sick part of me is satisfied with hurting her like she hurt me. It's satisfied with causing her pain like she caused me.

"Sadie, please, it's not like that."

Waving my hand, I brush off what she's saying. "If it wasn't for the innocent children and Micah, I would have left the rest of your burn in hell."

A gasp leaves her lips as she stares at me in shock. "He's your mate."

I can't help the mocking laugh that slips from my mouth. "Mate? Have you forgotten that you all tortured me because Lola rejected him? I'm not his mate; Lola is."

"That's enough, Sadie," his authoritative and angry voice sounds from behind me.

I turn to find an angry Alec, staring daggers at me. "Speak of the devil."

"That's enough." This time his voice comes out sounding more tired than angry.

"I'm just stating facts, Alec."

"I've apologized, Sadie. We apologized. I don't know what else to do," he says, his eyes pleading with me to understand.

"I don't want your apologies. I want

both of you to leave me the fuck alone. Like I said, if it weren't for

children and Micah, I'd have left out

of you to rot in hell. After all, if you are dead, then I don't need to worry about whether you'll accept the rejection or not."

With those parting words, I leave them standing in the hallway, their shocked looks clearly showing their unbelief at the words I spoke.

My words were harsh but true. If he were dead, things would be so much easier
