Chapter 509
Chapter 509
"So, you've been at the foot of the hill from noon up until now?" Ewan's voice was instantly raised.
"Yes…" Amy said weakly. "Fortunately, some kind souls saved me, or I wouldn't have made it out even till now…"
She had said everything she should and should not say, so she decided to just come clean.
"You…" Ewan was both angered and scared. "What about your boyfriend? You were showing off a few days ago about how your boyfriend took some time off just to go on a trip with you on your birthday, right? Why are you all alone now?"
"We got into a fight…" Amy expressed sullenly, "We'll probably break up…"
"That jerk bullied you?" His already cold and angered expression turned even angrier.
She was silent for a moment. "Ewan, it's not easy to tell who's right and who's wrong in terms of relationships. Perhaps we're just… not suited for each other, so we can't stay together. We're just lovers, not a married couple, so it's normal to break up. Don't get so worked up about it, Ewan."
He took a few deep breaths, suppressing the heartache and fury within his heart as he said, "I still have something to work on over here and I'll only be able to go back after a few days, but now that you're alone—"
At the thought of Amy all alone and helpless in the country, he felt both heartache and guilt.
Originally, when their parents divorced, he was sent with his father, whereas his sister would follow his
mother. However, due to his fight with his father, his mother was worried that if he stayed with his father, his father would abuse him. So, after discussing with his sister, his mother took him away and his sister was left with his father.
Frankly, girls should be with their mothers. Mothers were more sensitive, and since they were both females, the mother could take better care of the daughter. As for his father, he was an irritable man. He rarely thought twice about his actions and he was not skilled at anything at all.
As his sister lived with his father all these years, she had endured a lot of injustice… and all the injustice was originally meant for him to endure.
Every time he thought of that, he wished that he could raise his sister like his own daughter as he did not want his sister to suffer any bit of injustice.
However, in recent years, his mother's health was failing, so he had to stay abroad to take care of his mother.
Since his father refused to leave the country, his sister had to stay in the country to take care of his father. That was how the two siblings were physically separated.
Except for the occasional business trip where he could see his sister, the siblings had very few chances to see each other in a year.
His sister's personality took after his mother's. She was compliant and considerate as she would hide her troubles more often than not. No matter when he contacted her, she would claim that she was fine and nothing was wrong.
However, a young girl taking care of an irritable old man would definitely face a lot of sorrow and injustice, so how could she be fine?
After a lot of effort, his sister finally got a boyfriend. He and his mother both hoped that his sister could get a good man who could take care of his sister in their stead.
Some time ago, the couple even started discussing marriage. His sister even asked him and his mother to make time to return so that they could meet her boyfriend and have a marriage talk. Yet, they suddenly wanted to break up now.
That jerk must have bullied my sister!
He was so pissed that his face turned pale as he kept shivering. He wished he could rush home and tear that jerk apart, but he could not.
Some time ago, he received a merger and acquisition case. He had been so busy these days that he could only get four to five hours of sleep per day. His work was at a crucial point right now, so he could not possibly leave no matter what.
He needed at least four days before he could wrap things up and it might even take longer than that. But with how she is now, how can I rest assured?
He took a few deep breaths, trying hard to calm himself. Then, he thought of an idea that could probably work. "Where are you right now? I'm still busy with work, so I can't go back in the next few days. I'll get my friend to take care of you for me."
"It's okay, Ewan. I'm alright. I just scratched my face a little, but I'm fine otherwise. You don't have to get someone to take care of me." Amy hated causing trouble for others and she despised being someone else's burden.
"Is that so?" Ewan looked at her, then narrowed his eyes dangerously. "What about the kind person who lent you their phone? They saved you, so I have to thank them properly!"
Amy fell silent.
She sensed that something was going wrong, but she could not keep silent about it and stop her brother from thanking the kind person who saved her.
If she did, she might seem too childish and unkind. Hence, she could only say to the bodyguard near her, "Sorry, but can you ask your young mistress to come here for a bit? My brother says he wants to thank her for saving me."
The bodyguard nodded. "Please wait a moment."
His sister's personality took after his mother's. She was compliant and considerate as she would hide her troubles more often than not. No matter when he contacted her, she would claim that she was fine and nothing was wrong.
Soon, Madeline and Sebastian went over to Amy.
After Amy explained her brother's intentions and received Sebastian and Madeline's permission, she aimed the camera lens at the couple.
"Miss Taylor?" After making out Madeline's face, Ewan was surprised.
"Mr. Bennett?" Madeline's shock was the same as his. She never thought that she actually knew the brother of the girl she rescued.
"I never expected that you're the one who saved my sister, Miss Taylor." In just an instant, an idea popped up in Ewan's mind. "Thank you for saving my sister. I'm indebted to you. When I wrapped up work on my end, I'll return as soon as possible. I'll thank you properly then, Miss Taylor!"
"You're too kind, Mr. Bennett," said Madeline. "I didn't do much, anyway. It was a small matter. You don't have to take it so seriously."
"It may be insignificant to you, Miss Taylor, but you've saved my sister's life. Thank you so much for helping her." After the long string of thanks, Ewan changed the subject. "May I ask, Miss Taylor, if you're still accepting work for your office?"
"Yes, I am," she replied, "but we've closed our office in Wingston. I've now opened up another office in Dusktown."
The name of the office was still the same and the employees had not changed either. However, after switching locations, they had yet to rise in fame due to the new environment, so their business was practically terrible now!
Fortunately, she was not counting on the office to feed her family. Otherwise, the office would have closed down a long time ago.
"It doesn't matter. As long as you still accept jobs." Ewan asked, "Miss Taylor, do you mind if we
discuss something in private?"
Madeline looked at Sebastian, who then smiled and nodded at her.
"Yes, sure." She took the phone to a desolate spot nearby. "Please, proceed."
"I want to entrust my sister to you, Miss Taylor. Before I fly back here, please take care of her," Ewan said. "I have a very important merger and acquisition case on my hands, and the company's existence depends on it, so I can't go back at the moment. Still, I'm very worried about my sister, so I hope you can accept this request of mine, Miss Taylor, and take care of my sister for me. I can pay you double or more; money isn't a problem!"
Madeline fell silent. Oh, people will definitely take advantage of your wallet if you say things like that, dear customer!
Nevertheless, she was a business operator, so she loved getting customers who were generous with their money.
