Chapter 78 Just For What
It was at noon now, and it was time for Cliff to go home. He changed his clothes and grabbed the car key, moving towards the door of the office. Suddenly, someone pushed it open. Marshall walked into the office with cold eyes. He stared at Cliff and said angrily, "What did you just say to her?!"
Cliff was confused, "What could I say to her? Just some regular inquiries."
"Regular inquiries? How would she give up the treatment if it was some regular inquiries?" Marshall shouted in rage. Cliff had never seen him like this before. He had always been a gentle and modest man who never lost his temper. But when it came to Claudia, he was completely different.
Cliff frowned and threw the key back on his desk, "What do you mean? She refuses to accept the treatment now?"
"I have been persuading her to take the treatment, for years! She finally agreed to see the doctor, but now, you ruin it all!"
Cliff shrugged, took out her medical record and test results from the drawer, and handed over to Marshall.
"Take a look at these. The results show she has severe damage to her vocal cords, which was likely and deliberately caused by poison many years ago.
Cliff sighed and continued, "Claudia is pretty young. she is in her twenties. According to the results, it can be estimated that she was poisoned about fifteen years ago. She was a kid at that time!" Marshall held the medical record tightly and looked at him, "What do you mean?”
"She got involved in a conspiracy! Somebody wanted her to keep silent and poisoned her on purpose! And as a doctor, I need to know more about her so that I can treat her!"
Marshall was shocked.
Many years ago, right after her father's death, Claudia fell sick of a sudden and rested at home for about three months.
At first, he thought it was all because she was so sad about losing her father.
Nobody would think too much about it, let alone Marshall, who was still a kid back then.
But after that, Claudia could no longer speak anymore.
Once she was a lovely girl who enjoy singing and dancing, but after that, she became dull and gloomy.
Marshall used to believe that she was missing her father, but the record implied that she was hiding something from him.
"Marshall, you are also a doctor, right? Then you must know that you can never cure a patient who doesn't dare to face the disease and the doctor!" Cliff said.
Marshall remained silent. He was just standing there and sighed.
"By the way, at present, an operation is inevitable in her treatment process. Tell her when you meet her," Cliff put the things back and grabbed the car key once again. He was on his way to the door, but suddenly he reminded of something and stopped.
"Oh, apart from the vocal cords thing, I suggest you take her to see a shrink for her voice problem."
Marshall raised his eyebrow, "Why?"
"Her vocal cords are damaged, but technically, she can still make a sound."
Though her voice would be more like noise.
"In all these years, if she kept practicing speaking with adjuvant therapy, she could have recovered some of the capacity to speak, but she didn't do it. That's why I make the suggestion." Marshall was bewildered. Though he couldn't understand all his words, he still knew about the whole thing in general.
All these years, Claudia must be suffering all alone, for the secret in her mind.
She wasn't completely tongueless, she was restraining herself for the secret.
Think about this, he started to feel distressed.
He couldn't help but feel sorry for her.
He couldn't imagine what Claudia had been enduring all these years!
When Marshall arrived at the Crawfords' house, Claudia was busy in the bedroom. Conrad was taking a nap and the nanny and steward were shopping outside.
In the empty house, she heard the doorbell ringing and walked downstairs. When she opened the door and saw Marshall, she was surprised.
She stepped aside to let him in, but Marshall just grabbed her arms and stared at her worriedly.
"Tell me, what are you hiding from me!"
Claudia had no idea what he was talking about.
See her was startled, he realized he was too emotional. So he loosened his hands and said, "Why do you give up treatment? You told me you had made up your mind yesterday!" Claudia smiled slightly. She did remember that.
Since she decided to give up and ran away from the hospital, she had known that Marshall would come to ask for a reason. So she had prepared an excuse for this already.
She explained in sign language, "It will take too much time and effort treating my throat. Considering that I need to put all of my efforts into Conrad first, there is no spare time for me to receive the treatment. So, maybe later!"
But before she could finish this, Marshall reach out his arm and stopped her gesturing, "Excuse! You are making excuse!"
Claudia smiled bitterly, "Believe it or not."
"With things as such, can you just tell everything to me?" Marshall looked at her concernedly.
But she was just perplexed and looked at him helplessly, which raised a mix of feelings in his heart.
Marshall grabbed her hand and sighed, "I read the test result. Your throat problem was not caused by illness, but by poison. You know this all along, but instead of telling someone, you just keep hiding it and standing all the pains. Why do you have to do this? For what!"
Claudia didn't expect that the secret she had been keeping arduously would be uncovered so easily. Another thing she didn't expect was, Ben heard all of this outside the gate.
Ben lowered his head and started to analyze the whole thing wordlessly. He frowned in a flash, but soon back to normal.
"Who was the person that poisoned you fifteen years ago?" Marshall's voice haunted her.00000
