Chapter 29 Should I Believe You or Her
The whole bedroom instantly went quiet.
Claudia felt tired and exhausted from his torture. She curled up in the corner but couldn't sleep. She hugged the comforter and lay there in a daze. After a long time, she got up and went to the bathroom.
Claudia had to brace herself and grit her teeth against the pain with every step she took. When she got to the bathroom, though it was only a dozen steps, she felt so much pain that her palms were covered with a thin layer of sweat.
She turned on the showerhead. The sound of rushing water and the hot steam lingered throughout the bathroom.
Claudia lay in the tub. Hot water wrapped around her body, making her feel as if the pain and fatigue had been instantly alleviated.
However, the words that Ben told her when he left suddenly came to her mind.
"You can continue to play tricks and plot against me, but you'd better not let me catch you!"
"Otherwise, next time, I won't deal with you as simply as what I just did. I have plenty of means and tricks. If you want to try, try then!"
She felt her chest tighten uncontrollably.
She had no time to think about it, and the crying sound of her baby came in her ear.
Claudia climbed out of the tub as quickly as possible, wrapped herself in a robe, and ran out from the bedroom to the nursery. The nanny was holding Conrad. Although Conrad kept crying, as soon as he saw her, he reached out his little hand and wanted to hold her.
"Conrad can recognize his mother. That's wonderful!" The nanny said as she handed Claudia the baby.
Claudia smiled and held her son in her arms. When she looked at his little fair face, her worries seemed to dissipate instantly.
The next morning, Claudia was with her baby upstairs. The nanny came running up, "Mrs. Crawford, Miss Lewis is here!"
Claudia froze and left the baby with the nanny. Then she went downstairs by herself.
Hanna was dressed in a light-colored lady's suit, looking dashing with the competence of an elite woman. She looked at her with gentle eyes, "Mrs. Crawford, I hope 'm not interrupting you, am I?”
Claudia shook her head and smiled back at her.
"But why do you look so bad?" Hanna asked.
Claudia was startled. And her eyes showed a slightly flustered look, which made her look more embarrassed.
But Hanna didn't want to press the issue and just said, "Did you talk to Ben about your family's old mansion?"
As for that matter...
Claudia never had a chance to talk to Ben about it.
Seeing the complicated look in Claudia's eyes, Hanna said, "There is still time. Claudia, just take your time to talk to him. No rush!"
Claudia smiled to thank her.
"By the way, where's Conrad?" Hanna bought some toys for him.
Claudia just wanted to point her finger in the direction of the upstairs, but suddenly, the words she heard in the bathroom at the party flashed through her mind. Anyway, she thought that it was better to be safe than sorry.
Claudia thought for a while. Then she still politely made a gesture of sleeping to Hanna.
"Since he's sleeping, then we shouldn't wake him up!" Hanna, with slight regret, left her toys behind and talked with Claudia for a while before leaving.
In the second-floor booth of the Enchantment club, music was playing loud.
On the shaded sofa, Ben leaned against it. The dazzling neon lights were shimmering on his handsome face. The cigarette holder in front of him had four or five cigarette butts piled up.
Others around him were chatting happily, which seemed to have nothing to do with him. His indifferent handsome face looked grim. His large, bony hand played with a metal lighter. He opened the lighter and closed it. A cold, arrogant aura emanated from him
"Mr. Crawford, what's in your mind?" Sean held his glass of wine and lifted his eyes. He looked at Ben with some confusion in his eyes.
Ben did not say anything and gazed indifferently at the flame in the lighter.
There was a snap, and the flame went out.
Sean looked at him and lowered his voice, "You're still upset about the news from the past two days, aren't you?"
Sean gave a slight pause and added, "Do you think the little dummy is the one who spread the news? You're too decisive! Do you have any proof?"
Hearing his words, Ben curled his cold lips and sneered.
His inscrutable, deep eyes seemed to be unfathomable.
Sean seemed to read his mind. Then he couldn't help but pat Ben on the shoulder with his long arm and said teasingly, "I don't understand you guys. Let's drink!" And Amber also held a glass of wine and sat right next to Ben. Her soft hands wrapped around his arm, "Ben!”
Her coquettish voice sounded as sweet as candies.
Seeing this, Sean smiled wickedly, got up, and went to sit in the distance.
"Why haven't you been replying to my messages lately?" Amber tilted her head. Her big, heavily made-up eyes flashed with an expecting glint.
"I've been busy."
Ben subtly pushed her hands away and said those words coldly. Then he got up and was about to leave.
"Ben, stay! I have something to tell you."
When Amber saw that Ben was leaving, she got up anxiously and climbed onto his arm with her small hand, and her tone was a bit anxious, "I happened to meet Mr. Lowe from the radio station today, and I heard him say that Claudia had contacted him before..."
Mr. Lowe?
Ben paused in his movements, and his eyes became gloomy.
Amber looked at him, deliberately pursed her mouth, and said, "Maybe I'm just being nosy, too. Ben, don't take it to heart!"
She said as she tried to leave. However, Ben grabbed her wrist. Amber turned around, pretending to be surprised. "Ben?"
"Go on. Tell me." His low voice sounded like an order, which made others afraid to disobey him.
Amber flinched, blinked innocently, and added, "I know Mr. Lowe because he has interviewed me several times before. And he said that Claudia told him a lot of little things about your married life when she contacted him!"
Recently, the news about him was all over town, which led to a slight fluctuation in the stock price of the Crawford group. At this point, Amber added fuel to the fire, so she believed Claudia was bound to be screwed!
Ben frowned as he looked at Amber with his cold eyes.
"Maybe I'm talking too much. After all, it's your family affairs." Amber hastily apologized. Her delicate little body snuggled close to his side.
Ben's taut, thin lips stilled for a moment. The coldness that radiated around him was so cold that it seemed to freeze the air around him into ice. "Are you saying that Claudia contacted that journalist?"
He suddenly spoke. And at the same time, he also subtly pushed Amber's soft little hand away from him.
Amber blinked her big innocent eyes and pretended to be innocent, "I heard it from Mr. Lowe!"
She immediately cleared herself of blame, which was exactly what she would do!
Ben snorted. The cold aura around him became more chilling. When he lifted his starry eyes again, his evil eyes had a vague chill look in them, "She's at home every day taking care of her baby and hardly ever leaves the house. Are you saying that she secretly contacted the press?"
Amber froze, swallowed her saliva, and panicked, "Even if she doesn't go out... then she can still contact them! She could call them!"
Ben narrowed his cold eyes. He repeated in a low, mellow voice, "She called them?"
"... Yes! She could call or send a message!" Amber added in panic.
He lowered his head in a daze. His grim, handsome face looked terrifying. He turned sideways and pressed closer to Amber, "My wife and you. Amber, who do you think I will believe?"
"Well..."
Amber didn't expect such a reaction from Ben, so she froze in disbelief.
After a few moments, she took his arm with her soft little hand. Then she said in an innocent voice, "Ben, of course, you have to believe me! And I won't lie to..."
Before she could finish her sentence, Ben pushed her away in disgust!
Amber was so frightened that her face turned white.
"Don't start rumors for no reason!"
He warned her in a deep, cold voice. Although he did not care about Amber's farce, she had to stop. Then Ben got up impatiently and walked straight away.000
