Chapter 49
Calla thought that Mercer’s excuse was far–fetched. He drove all the way here at night just because the air was fresh? Did he feel that way because of her presence?
Even though she felt she might be flattering herself too much, she couldn’t help but think this way.
The night was quiet, and neither of them spoke again Calla began to feel drowsy, but she was aware of something soft and furry brushing against the back of her neck.
Instinctively, she shifted her position. Although she hadn’t experienced significant pregnancy symptoms yet, she couldn’t endure his demands for two consecutive nights.
Calla squirmed a bit and couldn’t help but say, “I–I can’t”
“Can’t what?” Mercer asked with a smirk. His voice carried a captivating allure.
“I–I’m pregnant. I can’t handle your… nightly demands,” Calla stammered. Her face was burning.
As soon as she spoke, Mercer cleared his throat and said, “I spent eight hours negotiating with the head of a company this afternoon. I drove straight to Luna Bay after dinner, and I’m exhausted. Even if you have demands right now, I can’t fulfill them.”
Realizing she’d been tricked, Calla turned around in embarrassment and raised her fist to hit his chest. Damn it! You tricked me! You’re awful!”
Mercer laughed heartily. He let her hit his chest a few times before wrapping her tightly in his arms.
With her face pressed against his strong chest, Calla felt an inexplicable wave of happiness. His laughter was so clear and pleasant. She never knew he could Taugh so happily.
He must have been truly tired because Calla soon heard Mercer’s even breathing as he fell asleep.
Under the moonlight, Calla looked up at him. He was indeed asleep, giving her the chance to unabashedly study his features.
He was incredibly good–looking, with a rugged, masculine charm. His face was chiseled, his features sharp, and his lips had a hint of sensuality.
She never dreamed she would marry such a man Although she didn’t know how long he would remain. her husband, at least for this moment, she was enjoying his warmth and embrace.
Calla didn’t know how long she stared at his handsome face before finally falling asleep. All she knew was that when she woke up the next morning, Mercer was gone again.
The sunlight outside was bright. Calla sat up, stretched lazily, and felt that she had slept very well. Throughout her sleep, she was held by strong arms, which gave her a great sense of security.
Just as she was pulling the curtains open, the phone in the room rang.
Calla walked over to the bedside table and picked up the phone. Ally’s voice came from the other end.” Mrs. Garland, are you up? Breakfast is ready. Would you like the service staff to bring it to your room?”
Calla marveled at Ally’s attentiveness. Ally knew she was awake as soon as she opened the curtains. “Thank you. Please have it brought up.”
“Okay.”

“What?” Ally was momentarily taken aback, but then quickly understood who she was referring to. Smiling, she replied, “Mr. Garland had a grand opening to attend at 9:00 am, so he and Mr. Beck left for Riverford at 6:30 am.”
