Mercer quickly removed his suit jacket and draped it over Calla’s head. After pulling her into his embrace, he held her tightly against his chest.

His actions were so swift and smooth.

Calla opened her eyes to find darkness enveloping her, but she was tightly held in his embrace. Her forehead rested against his chin, and she caught a whiff of his distinct scent.

The air was filled with cheers and screams. Calla didn’t need to think twice to know how many were now envious of her.

But unlike before, she now wasn’t afraid of their envy and jealousy. Instead, she basked in the admiration shining in their eyes.

He stood tall like a sturdy mountain, providing her with a sense of security and affection she had never felt before.

Surprisingly, she found herself not hating him as much as she used to. In fact, she even found herself eager to catch a whiff of his scent.

“Pour it!” Toby’s command rang out, and a bucket of ice–cold water was tipped over.

Calla heard the rushing water but felt none of it on her body. Instinctively, she wrapped her arms tightly

around Mercer’s waist.

She even silently prayed that the water wouldn’t dregph him too much. Even she couldn’t believe that she was worrying about Mercer getting sick.

In moments like these, Toby was quick to find excuses for Mercer. “Mr. Garland is truly a considerate boss. He’s willing to take the brunt of the ice water to spare his female employee. We’re lucky to have such a great boss in Atlas.”

After a few seconds, Mercer gently released Calla, and she quickly retracted her arms from around his waist. He pulled the wet suit from her body, while she looked up at him with gratitude in her eyes.

“Your reflection statement was not bad at all,” he suddenly blurted out.

“What?” Calla was momentarily taken aback.

Mercer smiled before he turned and walked away with the drenched suit.

Calla remained frozen in place. Reflection statement? Had he read the one Alicia helped her write? If it was not bad, did that mean she didn’t have to rewrite it?

She couldn’t help but feel a twinge of happiness. After all, this mission was successfully accomplished. Seizing the opportunity, Peggy quickly caught up to Mercer. She tiptoed and held a handkerchief to wipe his wet hair and face. But Mercer merely pushed her away, firmly rejecting her kindness:

Then, Simon and Ally approached to take the suit away and drape towels over Mercer’s shoulders. The group then headed toward the VIP wing.

Seeing Peggy get rejected, Calla felt a surge of satisfaction. She turned around, ready to leave the stage,

when Peggy came marching over.

“I’ve never seen someone as shameless as you. Seducing men even when you’re pregnant,” Peggy

sneered.

Suppressing her anger, Calla smiled and retorted, “You’re not pregnant, but you still failed to seduce him, didn’t you?”

“You-” Peggy was fuming and about to argue.

Calla cut her off with a warning. “Remember, the people here are all my colleagues, and Mr. Garland has left. If you pick a fight with me here, you won’t get away with it.”

“Let’s wait and see!” Peggy huffed and stormed off.

After Peggy left, Alicia approached and smirked at Peggy’s retreating figure. “She’s like a mad dog.” Calla stepped forward and linked her arm with Alicia’s. Grinning, she said, “You’re right. We shouldn’t retaliate against a barking dog. The juice over there looks good. Let’s grab a glass.”
