Chapter 34
Just before Peggy’s hand could land on Calla’s face, Calla grabbed Peggy’s wrist and gave her a shove that sent her stumbling.
Pointing at Peggy, Calla reprimanded furiously, “I’ve tolerated you for long enough. I’m warning you. Provoke me again, and I’ll beat you up to a pulp!”
Peggy had never received such treatment before. She glared at Calla while clenching her hands into fists.
Calla’s eyes bore into Peggy’s with contempt. Her anger was so intense that she no longer cared about the fact that she was at Atlas. She was determined to settle all scores with Peggy right then and there.
At that moment, someone exclaimed in surprise, “M–Mr. Garland?”
Calla glanced up to see Mercer standing in the doorway, with Derek, the manager at the finance department, behind him.
There was no expression on Mercer’s face, but a hint of hostility could be seen in his eyes as he gazed at Calla and Peggy. Calla suddenly felt at a loss.
The room fell silent, and everyone froze in place.
Derek hurried over and scolded Calla, “What’s wrong with you, Calla? Ms. Horn is our partner. You need to be polite!”
Calla looked up at Derek. Polite? Did he expect her not to fight back or defend herself?
At that moment, Peggy rushed to Mercer’s side. Clinging to his arm, she spoke in an exaggerated tone of grievance, “Mercer, look at how your employee resorts to violence.
“Your company really needs better personnel management. Luckily, I’m the one here today. If it were anyone else, it would tarnish Atlas‘ reputation.”
Peggy played the victim first. Calla shot her a glare at those words.
Seeing that Peggy was clinging to Mercer’s arm, she felt extremely uncomfortable. She turned around, as she didn’t want to see them cozying up together.
Derek, biased toward his employee, smiled apologetically at Mercer. “Mr. Garland, Calla’s mother is ill, and she’s been under a lot of stress lately. Please forgive her.”
Before Mercer could respond, Peggy interjected, “Everyone has their own troubles. If Atlas were to run like this all the time, it would be chaos.”
Derek glanced at Peggy but remained silent. He, like everyone else, disliked Peggy for acting like she owned the place.
“Ms. Horn started it. Though we’re just ordinary employees at Atlas, we shouldn’t just take abuse, right? Don’t we have any pride?” Alicia couldn’t help but speak up for Calla.
Her words echoed the sentiments of the other employees, who nodded vigorously–though none dared to speak.
Seeing this, Peggy immediately pointed at Alicia and said to Mercer, “Mercer, that lady’s attitude is terrible, and her efficiency is low. How did someone like her even get into Atlas?”

“You-” Alicia was about to retort when Derek interrupted.
“Keep quiet. Don’t you want this job anymore?” He gave her a meaningful look.
Alicia needed the job, so she had no choice but to turn away and swallow her pride for now.
Seeing Alicia suffer because of her, Calla couldn’t bear it any longer. She addressed Peggy, “Peggy, it’s me have a problem with. Don’t drag innocent people into this. If you have any issues, take them up with
you
me.”
“You still dare to be so arrogant, even with Mr. Garland here. Do you think I’m a pushover?” Peggy retorted angrily.
