Chapter 17
Atlas Enterprises held its first employees‘ meeting for the first time since moving to Riverford at 9:30 am the following day.
Only the retained employees from the branch office and the staff of the headquarters” functional departments attended the meeting, but all the seats in the large conference. room were still taken.
There were at least a couple hundred people there. There were flowers arranged alongside the nameplates of the executives on the platform. It was clear that the company cared about the meeting.
Calla and Alicia sat further in the back while Peggy sat in the first row. She loved. attention, so she would probably make the most of this chance to find a target with whom to establish a connection.
“Let us welcome the CEO of Atlas Enterprises, Mr. Mercer Garland, and the other executives!”
Thunderous applause erupted in the room after the emcee finished talking.
“Is that Mr. Garland? He looks so young and handsome!”
The two female employees talking behind Calla were also from the branch office.
‘Don’t you know? Mr. Garland is the dream guy of all single ladies of Atlas Enterprises!”
“Hey, count us married ladies in,” a woman from the headquarters chimed in.
Calla scoffed as she looked at the female employees around her. They were all looking at the person on the platform with dreamy expressions as if they were afraid to miss any move Mercer made.
Was this Mercer guy more handsome than celebrities? He seemed to have the female employees flocking to him. He was probably a player.
“Everyone, this is the first employees‘ meeting since we moved our headquarters to Riverford. First, I’d like to welcome the people from the branch office…”
Suddenly, a familiar voice came from the platform. Calla’s blood began to run hot when
she heard it.
Why was this voice… so
familiar?
She instinctively looked toward the platform and was completely dumbfounded when she saw the person who was speaking,
How could it be the handsome gigolo? He was the CEO of Atlas Enterprises and the
dream guy
of all the female employees? What?

Calla quickly lowered her head when she realized that. She realized she couldn’t let him know she was his employee, or he might fire her and even force her to get an abortion.
She didn’t want to lose her job or her baby.

She wanted to but that would just draw more attention to herself. There were a couple hundred people in the room. He probably wouldn’t notice her.
Then, she covered half her face with her hair.
After the meeting had adjourned, the female employees were all gushing about Mercer’s looks, manners, and speech.
Calla remained seated at her desk without saying anything. She was still recovering
from the shock.
Alicia came over and whispered, “I saw Peggy staring at the CEO the whole time. She probably found her target.”
“She might even succeed.” Calla thought Mercer was a promiscuous person. He probably went out and hooked up with girls every day.
“Would Mr. Garland really be interested in someone like her? He probably wouldn’t want her even if she served herself up on a platter, right?” Alicia scoffed.
“Men will take whatever they can get. Alright, let’s get back to work. The meeting lasted for two hours. I might not even be able to finish today’s workload.”
Calla lowered her head and started to work. Alicia also went back to her desk to work.
Neither of them went for lunch as they were busy with work.
Alicia stretched at 1:00 pm. “Calla, stay here and work. I’ll go downstairs and get some food for the both of us. You can’t afford to starve yourself.”
“Okay,” Calla said without even looking up.
The office phone rang right after Alicia left.
Everyone else was out for lunch. Calla was the only one in the office. So, she got up and picked up the phone.
Her expression stiffened when she heard the voice on the other end of the line.
“Is this Calla?” It was a man’s voice.
“Yes.”
“I’m Simon Beck, Mr. Garland’s assistant. He is requesting your presence at the CEO’s
office right now.
Simon hung up right after he said that.
“But…” Calla didn’t even have the chance to speak.
