Chapter 617
The shock Yates' words delivered was a punch to Edgar's gut.
"What... what did you say?" Edgar's gaze was vacant, as if his mind was trying to catch up with reality.
Sigh.
Yates exhaled softly, "I really shouldn't be telling you this..."
On one hand, Gilbert was his buddy. Spilling this felt a tad like betrayal.
After all, they all knew, despite Gilbert and Sherilyn calling it quits, Gilbert hadn't really let go.
On the other hand, there was Edgar to consider. The guy had been clashing with his folks over Sherilyn.
But with Edgar stubborn about moving abroad, no amount of persuasion worked. Yates had to play his last card.
Edgar, however, snapped back to reality, a flicker of excitement in his eyes, "Are you serious? Sherilyn and Gilbert broke up?" "Yeah." Yates nodded.
"Bro!"
Edgar, thrilled, clapped Yates on the shoulder, "I owe you one! You didn't have to tell me, but you did. I won't forget this!" "Cut it out."
Yates waved it off, a bittersweet smile on his face, "I'm not even sure if I'm doing the right thing."
Turns out, the only thing strong enough to keep Edgar around was Sherilyn.
...
Today, Sherilyn was off to the studio again for the script reading session.
As she descended the stairs, she spotted Gilbert's sleek Bentley parked outside. He stood by the car door, waving cheerfully at her. Sherilyn frowned, approaching him.
Looking up, she asked, "What are you doing here again? Jenna and I don't need a ride today."
"I know."
Gilbert's smile was gentle as he opened the car door, "You and your daughter are my responsibility, remember? Let me drive you to the studio." "How did you know I was headed there?" Sherilyn stood still, her frown deepening.
"You've been checking up on me?"
It wasn't the first time he'd done something like this.
"Checking up?"
Gilbert neither confirmed nor denied, "As the major investor, I'm entitled to know the basic schedule of the studio."
Sherilyn wanted to laugh. Was this his angle? Investing just to keep tabs on her?
She suddenly felt drained, "Gilbert, what haven't I made clear to you? Huh?" "Nothing."
Gilbert leaned against the car, his demeanor calm and collected, "You made it very clear. You don't want to should take care of Jenna. I get it.
get back together, just that
"Then why..." Sherilyn threw her hands up, asking, "What is this all about?"
Gilbert chuckled softly, "I understand, but you don't quite get it. My desire to be with you, to pursue you, hasn't changed."
"What?" Sherilyn was astounded. Was there such logic?
Her voice rose, "But I've already rejected you!"
"You can keep rejecting me." Gilbert's eyes sparkled with determination, "It's okay. I'll keep pursuing."
So, they were on completely different pages. Sherilyn was momentarily at a loss for words, her frustration boiling over. "You're being unreasonable!" "Yes."
Gilbert nodded, unashamed, "But
what can do? I want to, and I must. Since you joined the Johnson family at fifteen, you know me. When set my mind to something, I see t through!"
"Wow." Sherilyn stared at his almost flawlessly handsome face, grinding her teeth in irritation, "You really are shameless!"
"Thank you." Gilbert took it as a compliment, "I'll take that as a compliment."
He gestured towards the car, "We're
running late. If we don't leave now you'll be late. But not to worry, walkin with you. No one would dare give you trouble then..."
