When fate plays its hand

Chapter hand 592

Chapter 0592

Miranda recalled Madison’s usual appetite and glanced at the meager items in front of her. This small amount probably wouldn’t even fill a gap between her teeth. She’d be hungry again in no time.

Unexpectedly, however, Madison remained calm in her seat after two classes, showing no sign of needing a snack. Miranda was surprised–was she really not hungry?

If Madison had overheard her thoughts, she would’ve jumped up, crying and protesting, “Hungry? I’m starving! How could I not be?”

Indeed, Madison was already dizzy from hunger. Her stomach was growling. She was craving chips, cookies, cake, chili con carne, and chicken tenders. She could practically taste them, but she had to hold back.

Unaware of Madison’s torment, Miranda just assumed she wasn’t hungry. But by the second day, when Madison ate just a little bit again, Miranda suddenly realized something.

“Madi, are you trying to lose weight?” she asked.

“Yes! Miranda, tell me, why is it so hard? You eat a lot; eat a lot too. But you don’t get hungry until lunch, while I’m starving half an hour later.”

Life was just so unfair.

“Why the sudden urge to lose weight?” This didn’t sound like the Madison she knew. The Madison she knew was confident, carefree about her appearance, and always enjoyed her food without worry.

Miranda’s gaze deepened. “Wait… Are you seeing someone?”

That question made Sebastian, sitting in the row in front, whip around, eyes intense. “Who?”

Madison was confused by his reaction. She waved her hands frantically. “No, no, absolutely not!”

Miranda probed further, “Then, is there someone you like?”

A lady who suddenly started watching her appearance often had someone special in mind.

“No, of course not.” But this time, her tone was less certain.

Sebastian frowned deeply, sizing her up. “Just don’t get scammed or anything.”

Madison scoffed. “As if! You think I’m that gullible?”

Miranda cautioned, “But cutting back like this isn’t healthy. Even if you want to diet, you should take it slow, or it’ll be too hard on your body.”

Madison touched her stomach. “Well, it doesn’t feel so bad now; maybe I’m getting used to being a bit hungry…”

If only she hadn’t been staring intently at the small cake she’d brought, Miranda might have believed her a bit more.

Meanwhile, Mason was beside himself with worry. They only had one daughter, and ever since she was

littleback when they were far from well–off–he’d followed the advice from the “expertsto raise daughters generously.

For a straightforward guy like him, this simply meant giving her whatever she wanted.

So, from childhood to now, Madison had never been short of spending money. If she ever needed more, he’d give them to her without hesitation.

As for people calling his daughter chubby? That was no issue in his mind. Round cheeks were cute! And to him, they signaled good fortune.

If anyone criticized his daughter, he thought it was clearly out of jealousy.

But lately, something felt off. Her monthly allowance, always set up to cover her needs with no worry about overspending, had suddenly dropped from five figures down to four. This was unheard of!

Concerned, he called her. He half–expected her to be sick, only to hear her casually mention dieting. At that, Mason, who had been sipping tea, sprayed his drink everywhere and jumped up in shock.

“What! Did you just say you’re dieting?”
