Chapter Warming 31

Chapter 31

Lucille received a message from Bailey at around 11:00 am. “I’ll arrive in Whiteloop City at 3:00 pm, babe. Come and pick me up!”

Lucille asked, “Didn’t you say you’d be back next Tuesday?”

Bailey replied, “There was a change in plans. Gotta go- need to board the plane. Talk to you later!”

“Okay.”

At noon, Spencer went over to pick Lucille up for lunch at Zaytun Pavilion as usual.

It had already become a habit for them, and the speed at which their relationship was progressing made Lucille feel like she was dreaming. Neither of them mentioned last night’s kiss.

“Oh, right. What time are we heading back this evening?” Lucilla asked while eating. She probably wouldn’t return to the company after picking Bailey up in the afternoon.

Spencer stopped and looked at her tenderly. “We’re not in a rush or anything; we can leave around 6:00 pm. What’s wrong? Do you have something planned?”

He usually didn’t speak while eating, but he’d changed his habit for her sake.

“No, it’s nothing important. A friend of mine is returning to Whiteloop this afternoon. I probably won’t go back to the office after picking them up,” she explained.

He narrowed his eyes and hardened his voice, asking, “Is it a man or a woman?”

Lucille was taken aback. Then, she smiled at him and said, “She’s a woman.”

The iciness that had gathered in Spencer’s eyes immediately melted, and his tone softened. “Okay. When you’re done, send me your location, and I’ll head over to pick you up.”

“Okay.”

“Now, be good and eat.”

Lucille hummed in acknowledgment. In truth, she’d been wanting to ask him something. Why had he fallen for her among all the women in the world?

He’d only seen her a few times. Could it really have been love at first sight?

She’d asked him about it before, but he’d only told her that it was because it was her.

Could it be that they’d known each other in the past? But despite thinking about it for a long time, she hadn’t been able to recall any memories related to him

These thoughts continued to plague Lucille as she left at 2:30 pm to pick Bailey up. The latter showed up at 3:10 pm.

Bailey pounced on Lucille as soon as the latter had come into sight and gave her a bear hug. Fortunately, Lucille managed to catch her.

“God, I missed you so much, babe! Let me just hug you!” Bailey clung to Lucille like she was a kangaroo’s joey.

Lucille sighed helplessly. Bailey released her after a while and scrutinized her sharply. Then, she said thoughtfully, “I think you’ve changed in the month that I’ve been away, babe.”

Lucille stretched her arms and looked at her clothes. Everything looked normal. She asked, “How have I changed?”

Bailey crossed her arms and said matter–of–factly, “You’re more womanly now.”

Lucille raised an eyebrow. “So you’re saying I wasn’t womanly in the past?

“Well, no. You used to be a gorgeous ice queen. Now, I can sense your ice melting.” Bailey leaned close and asked, “Have you gotten yourself a man behind my back?”

Lucille didn’t know what to say to that. She had to admire Bailey’s eyesight for being able to catch something like that. Was it that obvious?

She ignored Bailey and turned to head to the car. Bailey could immediately tell from her reaction that she had a secret. She knew Lucille the best in this world–no one else could claim they knew her better!

Bailey grabbed her luggage and ran after Lucille. She cried, “Fess up, babe, or pay the price!”

Even after getting into the car, Bailey didn’t stop questioning Lucille. The latter ignored her and focused on the road.

Besides, the car wasn’t the right place to talk about this matter. She also knew Bailey too well and didn’t want them to die in an accident if Bailey got too excited.

“You must be keeping something from me, babe. Hurry up and tell me who the man is!” Bailey wouldn’t stop repeating this.

Lucille couldn’t take it anymore and said, “Shut up, and I’ll tell you when we get home. I don’t want to die prematurely, okay?”

Bailey only stopped after getting a promise. Instead, she started talking about what she’d experienced during her month–long business trip. “I’ll use one sentence to summarize this trip–I avoided all sorts of traps!”

Lucille said comfortingly, “Thanks for your hard work. I’ll increase your bonus.”

“I

Bailey’s eyes lit up, and she was immediately spirited, want half a year’s bonus.”

“Fine.” Lucille chuckled. Her tone was doting as she said, “It’s fine even if you want a year’s worth.” After all, who would expect the daughter of the Moore family to be.working at her company?

Bailey mainly managed Luminosity Films, a film production company under Star&Ciel Group. She’d gone on her business trip to chase after the author of a novel so that she could win the rights to turn the novel into a film.

The author loved traveling the world, so Bailey had followed them everywhere they had gone. That was why the business trip had lasted for a whole month.

Lucille added, “It’s not too big a deal that you failed to get the production rights. Just think that you went on a trip instead.”

Bailey sighed. It was the only way she could make herself feel better.

Bailey lived at Ozenia Residences, which wasn’t far from Orchidstone Garden. She’d had a housekeeper come over to clean the place up the day before her return.

Upon entering the apartment, the first thing she did was drag Lucille over to the couch. Then, she sat there and stared at Lucille with her arms crossed.

Lucille sighed helplessly at the resolute look on Bailey’s face.

Ten minutes later…

“What did you say?” An explosive shout rang out in the apartment.
