Chapter Warming 20
Chapter 20
“I’ve fallen for you.”
Lucille’s mind instantly went blank as though an explosion had gone off in her head.
When she heard those unexpected words, her terrified eyes grew wide. Shock was written all over her face, like she had just heard some surprising and unbelievable
news.
Spencer’s confession had taken her by surprise. All of a sudden, she was
dumbstruck and didn’t know how to react.
A while passed, and she still couldn’t return to her senses.
She had known him for less than a week. It was just so sudden for him to say that he had caught feelings for her.
Legally, they were already husband and wife, but…
Spencer sighed on the inside as he looked at her cute yet dazed expression. His eyes were filled with nothing but gentleness as he said to her quietly, “Don’t feel burdened by this. There’s no rush for you to give me an answer. You can slowly have a feel for it, and once you’re ready, you can tell me your answer.”
Lucille didn’t know what to say. Thus, she simply stared at him while silently listening to him speak.
“From the moment I saw you by the lake, something about you seemed familiar. The second time I met you, I wanted to get close to you, protect you, and take care of you.
“You’re the only person who has made me feel this way.” As Spencer spoke, he slowly raised his hand to cup her cheek. He gently rubbed her skin with his thumb as though he was caressing a prized treasure.
“Do you find the idea of me falling for you inconceivable?”
Lucille blinked then nodded slightly. Still, she said nothing.
Spencer chuckled quietly as his lips curved into a smile. He gently ran the pad of his thumb across her cheek a few times and continued, “Even I think it’s inconceivable. But, I can’t help it. All I want is to get close to you and be with you.”
Initially, his touch was unfamiliar to Lucille. But now, she was slowly getting used to it. She said calmly, “Why?”

Spencer leveled his heated gaze at her and replied, “There’s no specific reason. It’s Just because it’s you.”
Much to her embarrassment, Lucille felt her heart race. She had always lived alone. Ever since her mother died, she had been living her life in a dark abyss. She had experienced all sorts of human emotions in this world.
Moreover, she had never imagined that one day, someone would ever cherish her. She knew she had to take care of herself; only then could she grow even stronger. At the same time, she would be able to protect the people she cared about and stomp on those who tried to harm her.
While she was deep in thought, Spencer’s melodious voice reached her ears again.” You’re the only one I want in this lifetime. I want to spend the rest of my life with you, * he said with determination.
Lucille’s glimmering gaze met his burning eyes. Her lips trembled as she replied, “I–I can’t give you an answer yet.”
Spencer wasn’t surprised by that response, but he was a little disappointed. “Okay. But in the meantime, let me do things for you, alright?”
After a moment of thought, Lucille nodded. “Okay.”
In the next second, before she could even react, she was pulled into Spencer’s arms. His familiar ambergris fragrance permeated her nose.
“Don’t make me wait too long,” he murmured hoarsely above her head.
Lucille lay against his chest unmovingly. She smiled faintly and replied, “Okay.”
The both of them had turned this into a habit.
After two days of rest, Lucille went back to work. And for that entire week, Spencer would take her to the Zaytun Pavilion for lunch. Then, in the evening, he would cook for her in their apartment.
That day, Lucille received a call from Sabrina once again. Sabrina had been trying to reach her for a few days now, but she had ignored her until now. “Just say what you want!”
