Chapter Warming 16
Chapter 16
It was only 5:00 pm when Lucille ended her call with Bailey, She didn’t feel like sleeping, so she called Samuel and had him email her whatever documents that
needed her attention.
At 5:30 pm, her phone rang. She glanced at it and answered it.
“That was fast. I guess you already woke up from your nap?” Spencer’s gentle voice rang out on the other end of the line.
Lucille felt her heart skip a beat. The tingling made her feel uneasy, She bit her lip and hummed in agreement. Spencer continued, “What do you want for dinner tonight?”
“Huh?” She was taken aback. Then, she asked tentatively, “Are you… Are you gonna
cook?”
After all, he’d revealed to her a couple of hours ago that he could cook.
“Yeah. I’ll have Kent drop the ingredients off at your place, and I’ll head home to cook for you once I’m done with things here. Or do you want to walk around a bit? I can accompany you to the supermarket, and we can get the things ourselves.” Spencer gave her two choices.
Lucille didn’t know what to say. Why did she get the feeling he sounded so natural when he talked about heading home? This was her home, not his.
In fact, Spencer himself didn’t know why the words had come so naturally to him. They just sounded right. When he didn’t hear Lucille say anything, he asked, “Lucy?”
Damn it! Lucille’s heart started racing because of how he’d addressed her. Many people called her Lucy, but it sounded different coming from Spencer.
“Lucy?” he repeated.
Lucille forced herself to speak. “Have someone send the things over.”
She didn’t really want to go out. Spencer said, “Okay.”
Lucille added, “You can pick whatever ingredients you want. I’m not picky or allergic to anything.”
“Okay.” He chuckled. She couldn’t help feeling an odd sense of deja vu at that. Before he hung up, he said, “Be good and wait for me at home.”

Perhaps his voice was too easy on the ears, or perhaps he was just too charming because Lucille ended up saying, “Okay.”
She only realized what she’d done after hanging up. Her face burned. God, what had she just done? Where had her usual iciness gone? Why had she lost control of herself just because he had a nice voice? How could she have been so dazed?
She sat on the couch while looking mad at herself. His voice had poisoned her!
Spencer’s expression was the opposite of hers as he sat in his office. Kent brought some documents to him and saw him smiling to himself.
He was stunned. Thinking his eyes were playing tricks on him, he rubbed his eyes roughly and blinked. When he focused on Spencer, he saw the latter’s usual cold face. Now, that was the expression he was used to.
How could Spencer possibly know how to smile? And so gently, too. He knew he’d been seeing things. He stepped forward to put two documents on Spencer’s desk. ” Boss, you need to sign these documents.”
Spencer grunted in acknowledgment. He picked the files up and quickly signed them. Kent took them from him when he was done and turned to leave.
Spencer stopped him. “Hold it.”
Kent stood still and asked respectfully, “Yes?”
He watched as Spencer grabbed a loose piece of paper and wrote a list of food. Squash, corn, pork ribs, onions…
Kent was baffled. What was Spencer up to?
Spencer handed him the list and said stoically, “Buy everything I’ve written here and deliver them to Orchidstone Garden.”
