Warfare of the Brain

Chapter Out of My League

Is it wrong to want someone I can’t have?

It must be:

My one-way ticket to heaven is gone.

I only have a free pass to my fantasies,

My self-made, hand-crafted afterlife.

I know I died when I first laid eyes on you:

A head-on collision – my car into your lamppost.

There’s definitely no way I’ll survive

Even if you have the power to save me.

But I know that you know what you’re doing.

A wolf in sheep’s clothing.

A sugar-sweet poison.

A criminal disguised as a victim.

You stole innocent hearts with your tempting gaze.

A galaxy becomes a black hole in your irises.

But I don’t care.

You have me captured,

Right where I want me to be.

So use me to your heart’s content.

Play me like a royal flush.

Read me like the Fool I am.

Put your gambles on me;

My love will give you

The jackpot you want.

I only ask for one thing in return:

Tell me you love me no matter what.

Nothing matters if I have you.

Don’t leave me desperate,

Ridden with love-sickness.

Don’t leave me longing;

I’m dead without your drug.

Just thaw my icy heart in your fiery embrace

And take my burnt ashes to paradise, where you are.

To the place where I’m not worthy,

To the place where you’re out of my league.
