Chapter 8 - Family
Teegan's P.O.V.
I look around to see who Kiana is looking at. At first, I thought it was the man standing next to my birth parents who looks like me, but his expression hasn't changed. However, the man standing slightly behind him is staring at Kiana with wide eyes. He practically shoves the others out of the way as he runs toward her.
"You're my mate?" The man asks her. I don't know who to look at, the new couple or my parents. Kiana smiles at him excitedly.
"Yes," she replies. I glance up to the porch and notice my parents staring at me. Taking Joel's hand, I walk toward them. My eyes sting with tears as I try to speak.
"I'm Teegan," I say softly, but it's loud enough for them to hear. My mom drops to her knees crying, and my dad stands frozen with tears running down his face. I can't hold back anymore as I start crying, too. The man next to them looks from me to Joel, who is holding me as I cry.
"You're mated to Prince Joel?" He asks in disbelief. I nod as I step forward. I want them to hug me and tell me they missed me, but I'm scared. When my mom sees me walking toward them, she jumps up and runs to me, wrapping her arms around me. My dad puts his arms around both of us as we all cry.
"We never thought we'd see you again," My dad says against my head.
"I thought you didn't want me. I just found out about your letter this evening, and we drove straight here." I tell them. We pull apart, and I see how much I resemble both of them. What I see most of all is how much they love me. "What are your names?"
"I'm Simon, and your mom is Mirela. Your oldest brother is Anton, and your other brother is Damon, who I believe was just claimed by the princess." I look at Anton, and he has tears in his eyes as he hugs me.
"I've missed you, little sis." He says. I would like to say the same, but I don't remember him. Damon and Kiana join us.
"I don't remember you because I was only two when they had to take you away," Damon says, hugging me. I look at my parents and ask the question that's been gnawing at me.
"Why did you have to give me away but not my brothers?" I can't help hiding the hurt in my voice. A little piece of me still wonders if they didn't want me. My mom hugs me again and kisses my cheek.
"Sweetheart, they were only kidnapping the female pups. We didn't want to give you away, and we waited until the last possible minute, but they were getting too close." She answers.
"Do you have any idea who's doing this even after so long?" I ask. They shake their heads sadly.
"No, and now they're taking male and female pups. Anton's mate is pregnant, but we've hidden her to keep it a secret from outsiders. We're hoping we can figure it out with the investigators Prince Joel sent." My dad replies. Joel walks over and puts his arm around me.
"I have brought my lead investigator with us, and my parents are here as well. We'd like to stay for a little while so you can spend time with Teegan, and we can help put a stop to this. Please call me Joel," He smiles as he kisses my forehead.
"You're Teegan's mate? We were so focused on her that we didn't pay attention when you arrived. So our daughter and our son are mated to royals. Wow." My mom looks at each of us in disbelief.
"Hi, I'm Victoria, and this is my mate Adrian. I hope it's not an inconvenience for us all to just show up like this." I almost want to laugh when my parents take in the king and queen. In their jeans and T-shirts, they don't look like royals.
"I'm sorry, your majesties. Please follow me, and I'll ensure you're given our best room." Victoria hugs my mom before she can continue.
"No titles, we're family. We don't need the best; we just need somewhere to lay our heads at night." I watch them walk into the packhouse, followed by their mates, and can't help smiling. Family. I finally have a family.
"How far along is your mate?" I ask Anton. No wonder he looks so sad if they're being kept apart.
"Kimberly is three months pregnant. I can hardly focus because I'm so worried about our pup. However, I'm scared that if she's here, I won't be able to keep my son safe." I can see his despair and want to help somehow, but I don't know what to do.
"Bring her back. We brought many royal guards, and I'll assign two of them to her. Keep her hidden in your bedroom, and they'll always stay with her. At least then, you'll be able to see her and know she's being protected. I'm sure she's missing you, too. We won't leave until we stop whoever is behind this." I can tell Anton is still unsure, but when two lycan guards walk over, and he sees their size, he nods.
"Thank you. Can you guys ride with me? I want to get her now." Anton hugs me and shakes Joel's hand before he and the guards leave. I turn to Damon and Kiana, who are hanging all over each other.
"I guess you've been waiting for your mate like she has hers," I say to Damon. His smile gets wider.
"Yes. I'm twenty-six and had almost given up hope. Now I find out she's a princess." Damon looks at Kiana in awe. He has black hair and blue eyes, like our dad. I smile at Kiana, who's looking at him with stars in her eyes. I guess she has no hesitation like I did when I met Joel.
"Of course, she doesn't. She's not messed up in the head like you were." I choose to ignore Mia. I'm too happy right now at finding my family.
"So, do you think you can show us where we can stay?" I ask Damon, who looks like he's two seconds away from taking Kiana into the packhouse. I hope our room is on the opposite side of where theirs is. There's no doubt in my mind where Kiana is going to be sleeping tonight. I smirk at her.
"So, Kiana, I was thinking I need some girl time. Do you think you can stay with me tonight?" I don't know who is more shocked by my request: Kiana, Joel, or Damon. I start laughing before any of them can say anything. "I'm just kidding."
"I was trying to think of any excuse I could think of why that was a bad idea," Kiana says as we walk up the steps of the packhouse. I notice all the other people who were there when we arrived have left. I was just a pup when I was last here, but there's instant familiarity when we walk inside. It looks like a large log cabin resort. It's beautiful and comfortable. My parents are waiting for us when we reach the stairs.
"Hi, Kiana; I'm sorry we didn't get to officially meet you when you came. We're so happy to have you as part of our family." My mom says to her. Kiana hugs them both.
"I'm happy to meet you and glad Teegan found her family." She replies before she and Damon go upstairs.
"We'll show you to your room. We converted it from a child's room when you turned eighteen. It was our hope that you would look for us when you became an adult, but now I understand why you didn't." Mom opens a door and steps back. Joel and I walk inside, and I can't help the tear that escapes. It's beautiful. The furniture is all white, and the bedding is dark blue.
"I love it," I tell them.
"We'll let you two get a good night's rest, and we'll talk more in the morning. It's really good to have you back." Mom hugs me, and then Dad follows. I know it may be too soon to call them Mom and Dad to some people, but it feels right. After they leave, one of the guards brings our suitcases to our room.
"I don't know about you, but I'm ready for bed," Joel says, taking me in his arms, and I wrap my arms around his neck.
"I'm ready, too. Thank you for stopping at the restaurant yesterday. If you hadn't, then I wouldn't have found you, found my best friend, and found my family. I love you." I stand on my tiptoes and kiss him.
"I love you too." Joel pulls me against him and then lifts me to carry me to bed. We make love several times before finally falling asleep. Tomorrow is a new day, and I hope we can figure out who's taking the cubs; it has gone on for far too long.
