Chapter 30 - Followed
Teegan’s P.O.V.
We all load into the minibus, and it’s almost full. It seats twenty, and that includes the driver and passenger seats. Logan and Emily joined us at the rental office for the bus. So there are only three seats left, but having everyone together feels good. One of the guards is driving, and another is sitting in the passenger seat, so the rest of us are in the back.
“I’m so glad we were able to join you. I’m going to be as big as a house soon,” Emily says, smiling at me. I look at her in shock.
“You’re pregnant?” I ask. She nods excitedly and puts her hand over her belly.
“Congratulations. Do you know if you’re having a girl or a boy?” I can feel both Emily and Logan’s excitement. It’s nothing like Kimberly. All I could feel from her was deceit. How am I picking up all these things about people? I never thought about it much, but since Joel and I marked each other, it’s getting stronger.
“We just found out from my wolf that we’re having a girl. I was so excited for Joel to find his mate and for you to be like me.” I look at her in confusion.
“What do you mean?” I ask. The way the bus is set up, there are rows of four seats with a walkway, so two are on either side. Emily and I are sitting across from each other. She turns and puts her back against Logan.
“I was a werewolf, too, before I met Logan. My parents were killed when I was ten, and I was raised by the people in my pack, but I never felt like I belonged. I was basically alone. The people outside the royal family can be snobbish when you’re not a lycan, but don’t let it get to you. Logan thinks we’re stronger than all of them because we’ve led real lives and not pampered ones.” Emily reaches out and takes my hand. I really like her, and it’s nice to know I’m not the only one who was a wolf first.
“We are more alike than I thought. I lived with my human parents until I was eighteen, but I was pretty much on my own from the time I was twelve. The only thing they wanted me around for was to see who could inflict the most pain. I’m glad to have a friend in the palace.” I tell her, squeezing her hand.
“Hey, what am I, chopped liver?” Kiana says from behind us. I wink at Emily.
“No, princess. I’m sorry, did we mere wolves forget to shine your crown to your satisfaction?” I turn to her, and she smirks.
“Yes, you did, as a matter of fact. Next time if the jewels don’t sparkle, then I’ll put Petra on your ass.” We all burst out laughing. Petra is smiling in the seat across from Kiana.
“I’m discovering more and more of my magic. It feels like when Anton marked me, it unlocked something inside me that I didn’t know was there. My wolf says that she feels different, too.” She smiles at me and leans against Anton. How did I go through life being basically alone? Now, I’m surrounded by so many strong women who I consider sisters. I look at Martina, who’s sitting behind Petra. She looks thoughtful, and all I can think is I wonder what’s getting ready to come out of her mouth.
“I’m just curious. Is a lycan penis bigger than a werewolf penis? Is the size based on rank? So the king’s is the biggest, then his sons, other lycans, alpha’s, and so on.” Ryker’s face and most of the men’s faces turn bright red while we women howl with laughter.
“Well, men, come on and show us. I think it’s time we measure.” I say as I hold my side from laughing so hard. When I turn to look at Scott, I notice a black SUV following close behind us.
“Do you guys know how long that SUV has been behind us?” I ask the guards. The ones in the back turn around to look, but it’s the driver who speaks.
“I noticed it not soon after we left the rental office. I thought maybe they were just getting on the highway like we were, but they hadn’t moved from behind us since we left.” I look at Joel, and he looks as worried as I feel. Why is someone following us?
“What should we do?” I ask him.
“Right now, they’re not being aggressive, so let’s see if they continue. Once we get somewhere more remote, we’ll pull over and see if they follow. If we need to shift, I don’t want to where humans can see us.” Joel puts his arm around me, and all the laughter we had a few minutes ago quickly leaves us as we all watch the SUV.
Blake’s P.O.V.
We stay close behind the bus, waiting until they get somewhere we can attack or push them off the road. I’m adamant we don’t do anything where there are witnesses. I haven’t stayed under the radar this long by being stupid.
How long are they planning on staying on the highway? There are a lot of wolfpacks in the area. Aren’t they stopping at all of them, or do they have a list? I’m getting more and more annoyed the further we go. When they finally head to an exit, I lean forward, hoping they drive away from the small town we’re in. Shit, they’re stopping at a gas station.
I have my man driving pull up to a pump to get gas. We don’t want to run out when we’re following them. We’re a couple of pumps away, and I see a royal guard get out and pump the gas. If there was no one else around, I’d take that gasoline and fill the bus with it before lighting them all on fire. They deserve to die for sticking their noses where they don’t belong.
When we get back on the road, they turn away from the highway. This is it. This may be my chance to kill them all. As we drive away from town, we begin going up a winding road, but there are still too many cars around. Finally, we follow them down a side road that I’m hoping has a large drop-off. They’re werewolves and lycans, so the fall needs to cause an explosion for them to die.
“Okay, get ready. When we get to the next lookout, ram into the back of them and push them to the edge.” The driver nods and revs the engine to get closer to the bus. I see the lookout ahead and brace myself.
We hit them hard from behind when they begin to go around the bend. The bus straightens, and we hit it again. This time, we push it to the edge. The bus is trying to go in reverse to stop us, but we’re stronger. We continue to push, and it teeters for a second before falling into the ravine below. I jump out and look over just as the bus bursts into flames.
