Chapter 237
Chapter 237 The Astonishing Turnaround
I did spend a lot of money to entertain this little brat for a few days.
Thus, it’s essential for her to accomplish the task at hand.
The child scampered up the stairs. When Sariah watched Abby’s innocent figure, her lips curled into a hostile smile. Aylin, I’ll
make sure you wish you were never born today!
Sariah turned around and went to the garden to pick flowers.
Sariah was in a great mood.
The pendant around Abby’s neck was something she had carefully prepared, which was a miniature camera.
That day, Sariah would soon be watching Aylin’s miserable and unfortunate experience enjoyably, enabling her taste the
bitterness Sariah herself had experienced during those days in the countryside!
As soon as Sariah arrived at the garden, she took out her phone and found a quiet spot, ready to enjoy watching Aylin’s
miserable state in the study.
Meanwhile, in the study.
Aylin gracefully crossed her legs, sitting quietly on the leather couch. Even with her hair down and jewelry removed, she exuded
a dominant aura.
Abby stood stiffly at the door, feeling half of her confidence slipping away.
“Aylin...”
Aylin looked at the glass of water in her hand and said indifferently, “Didn’t I tell you to go back?”
Abby was a bit nervous, pursing her lips and whispering, “I... I saw that you were working so hard, Aylin. Thus, I thought I should
pour a glass of water for you to drink.”
Aylin stared silently at the glass of water for a moment. Then, she suddenly asked, “Is there something added to this water?”
Abby’s eyes widened.
H-How did she guessed it?
Aylin’s lips curled up indifferently. “Not only that, but you’re also wearing a pendant with a miniature camera around your neck.
You planned to drug me from the moment you entered, didn’t you?”
Abby only had two secrets. However, the moment she walked through the door, Aylin exposed all of them. Abby froze in place,
her entire body. trembling.
“I, I...”
Meanwhile, Sariah, who was in the garden, had an extremely unpleasant expression on her face. Immediately, she jumped up
from the bench and stomped her feet in anger.
What’s going on?
What’s going on with the terrible signal at the Koch’s house? The surveillance footage is so laggy, and it just happened to freeze
at the moment when Abby was entering the study with a glass of water.
Can’t Aylin just get someone to install a better router?
Abby shuddered uncontrollably. She stood there in a daze, completely terrified.
“Please, have a seat.”
Aylin had always been gentle with children. She lifted her chin slightly and said calmly, “The miniature camera on your neck has
already been disrupted by my signal jammer, so it can’t transmit anything happening inside.”
Abby’s body stiffened, and it took her a while to react.
She carefully placed the water cup down, not daring to sit too close to Aylin.
Cautiously, Abby sat at the other end, her entire demeanor resembling a frightened little creature in the mountains.
Aylin hooked the corner of her lips and asked, “Are you that scared of me?”
Abby wanted to nod in agreement, but she didn’t dare to. In the end, she could only shake her head.
“It seems that you’re not that afraid, though. After all, you even dare to bring a poisoned glass of water into my study.”
Abby was stunned.
Aylin had casually exposed the substance added in the glass of water in Abby’s hand. After Abby found out that it contained
poison, she felt that she was not far from being locked in a small, dark room!
“I, I...”
Abby was terrified as she looked at Aylin. All feelings of Aylin’s warmth and affection were cast aside, and Abby could only think
about how the woman in front of her was beautiful and intelligent.
Abby also felt a bit of awe and fear.
“Aylin, you already know everything. Just now, w-why...did you still protect me just now?” Abby was already nervous, now she
was stumbling over her words, Aylin looked at the timid Abby and thought about the information she had found last night.
Abby, as Serena’s young daughter, was not doted on. One could even say that Abby’s childhood was far from happy.
Abby’s parents had an unhappy marriage. Her mother lived abroad for many years, doting on her illegitimate child and rarely
thinking of Abby. Her father,
on the other hand, was an alcoholic who did not work. Not only did he hardly
ever attended parent-teacher conferences for Abby, he would often mistreat Abby under the influence of alcohol.
A year ago, one would often see some scars on Abby’s back.
However, Abby was not the pitiful child as she seemed.
Aylin’s thin lips parted slightly as she spoke softly. “I know your mother doesn’t love you, and she rarely comes back from abroad
to visit you. She even has an illegitimate son who is much older than you. As for your father, he’s a scoundrel when he’s drunk.”
Suddenly, Abby’s eyes widened.
“But you started fighting back against him since last year, right? When you found out your father might act up after drinking, you
would slip sleeping pills into his water, am I right?”
Abby was astonished.
Abby never expected that Aylin would know about such a private matter. Abby hadn’t even told Sariah, let alone anyone else.
Abby clenched her fists nervously. “How did you find out?”
Aylin raised her eyebrows, but said nothing.
Abby didn’t dare to look directly at Aylin anymore.
“I just don’t want to continue like this anymore. He’s so vicious that I might die one day!” Abby bit her lip, not denying any of it.
Abby learned how to drug her father online, knowing that the medicine would put him into a deep sleep. After all, once he was
asleep, he wouldn’t be able to do anything to Abby.
Abby just didn’t want to continue like that anymore.
However, nobody would like such a detestable child who could harm others.
Abby waited for Aylin’s harsh scolding, expecting Aylin to drive her away or take her to the police station.
“Abby.”
A gentle voice reached her ears, causing her to look up in surprise. Aylin leaned in, gazing at her without any hint of mockery in
her eyes. Instead, Abby’s expression was like a calm, still pool of water, radiating warmth and kindness.
“It’s normal for someone your age to crave affection, but always remember to be cautious in everything you do.
If you constantly act innocent, play the victim, and submit to others, it will not earn you genuine love and care from them. Instead,
they will see you as an easy target, exploiting you to the end. Similarly, being overly extreme can easily lead you down the wrong
path.
Don’t be deceived by the little favors others do for you. She probably didn’t say anything good about me in front of you, did she?
Think about it, if she truly cared for you, how could she bear to let you personally poison me, especially with a harmful poison?”
Both of them knew very well who the “she” was referred to here.
As she spoke, Aylin’s tone became somewhat stern. “If this gets exposed, she’ll say it was your idea, not to mention that the
water was indeed brought inside by you. Have you ever thought about what would happen to you?”
Abby was stunned once again.
However, Abby felt more regret than she was shock.
Abby was already eight years old, and she knew better. However, it had been so long since anyone had cared for her that she
couldn’t help but crave even the slightest bit of attention.
As a child who neither had her mother’s care nor her father’s affection, Abby often had to gauge other people’s moods.
In school, being well-behaved, sensible, and not causing trouble would make her liked by the teachers; at home, being diligent in
doing chores and studying hard could help her avoid being troubled by her father.
Abby pursed her lips. “I was wrong...”
In the end, Abby was just a child who was unable to see through Aylin. Plus, Abby was deceived by the foolish Sariah’s caring
gestures.
Aylin gazed at the young girl and said solemnly, “Abby, remember this that the only way to avoid having to depend on others is to
study hard and develop your skills.
Bad emotional companionship is worse than having none at all. It’s quality over quantity, after all!”
