Chapter 8
Mother Confessor:
I do not understand why the four of them are elated by such negative connotation in regards to the Confederation soldiers bound and oppressed by my faithful yet simple neighbors. I suppose in time I will understand the situation once I am more knowledgeable in social constructs and response.
Marckus:
Happy as a clam, once the drop ship reunites with the battle ship. Pacing myself in dealing with all that lies before me. No way are the Confederation going to allow such a simple victory for us once they find out what happened on the blackened planet. Not to mention their objective in the matter. Leading the Mother Confessor from the hangar with Graxis in the lead. Would like to know a bit more on this fairly odd creature. Making our way to the med bay. I know that this must bother her, it sure would bother me having a battery of tests performed on myself like a guinea pig. There was just no other way to find out the physiology and genetics of what she really is. All any of us know is that she seems to exhibit a very peculiar and slow aging process, unlike any that has ever been seen before. She has been around for a long time, at least as far as the higher ups had let on. All I know is that the legend of her existence predates even myself.
I find it odd how she has similar features to the natives on the scorched world we plucked her from. Though more rounded and defined in physique. Very pale blue skin, and clothed. Opposing the natives in her contrast. Soft and feminine facial features, with somewhat larger than normal eyes. Four legs and breasts like a mammal. That is not saying much since Centurian females have defined breasts as well. Her arms and hands are very slender and delicate. Still pondering how she managed to swing the war hammer with so much force. Perhaps the will to survive and some sort of bio-chemical rush allowed her to accomplish this. One feature I thought was most odd was that she had hair and eyebrows. This lent to the thought that she may have hair in other places as well. I suppose I will find out these answers later on, along with many others. Coming to the final corridor and commence to our destination. The last thought in my mind is that whatever she is, she must be lonely.
Crossing the threshold to the med bay, I see the surgical techs finishing their preparations. One of whom I had a short chat with upon my defrosting was there. Flashing a sharpened grin and throwing in a wink at me, when she noticed me. What the hell did she see in me anyway? More to the point we are not even close in terms of species. Oh why am I quibbling in semantics? I know that Rhino and Red Wolf have an intimate relationship, though they do not know that I do. Besides the fact, at the end of the day we are animals. Having been a long time since last I enjoyed a females softness and embrace. Well not after the incident involving an incendiary grenade. Scorched most of my damned head. Damn lucky I didn’t lose my eyes in the process. Thank my stars that I got the mask on when I did. Now I just have to suffer without the ability to grow hair on my head. They fixed what they could so I wasn’t completely an abomination, none the less I looked like burnt flesh.
Graxis has noticed the flirtation, and smiled at me. Jabbing a playful elbow into my ribs.
“Nice, so are you going to pursue her or are you going to let her slip away,” He teases me quietly. Pondering the friendly jab from him a few moments. I conclude that the invitation of the surgical tech is intriguing to me.
“Graxis, I think I will take the pretty tech’s offer in companionship”, I say to the captain.
He playfully pats me on the back following it up with, “ That’s the spirit, sir.” Glad he has the confidence in me that I have in myself in combat.
Hesitantly I cross to the young surgical tech. Her eyes shine brightly coupled with her broadening grin. Glad the mask hides my flush of awkwardness at her longing gaze. “Hello again”, I manage clumsily. She giggles at my subdued greeting.
“Yes commander, what is it that you like”, she sweetly retorts back, batting her eyes. Taking in the precious seconds to come up with something, anything.
“ Would you like to dine with me once you have finished your tasks here? Be a dear and bring something intoxicating with you please”, I courageously manage, putting on my best air of sincerity that I can muster.
“I will accept your offer commander, I will do my best to present myself to your liking as well”, her sultry reply, throwing another wink at me.
I walk over to the Mother Confessor, and remove the sword from her waist.
“Do not worry, it is still yours”, I say to her,” I am going to take it to the armory for safe keeping.”
“I see, you know the rules better than I”, she says mechanically. Her eyes no more than slits, as she glares at the young surgical tech. I feel the raw negative energy flowing from her iron gaze. Taking the sword, Graxis and I depart from the med bay.
“A little hostile, wouldn’t you say”, I ask Graxis once the bay door seals.
“It was a bit, yes. As for the reason why, you tell me”, he replies as we make our way to the armory.
I have no idea why the sudden change in the Mother Confessors demeanor. Would she have rather be taken by the Confed? For now my mind was buzzing with what to do about my encounter with the tech later this evening. Having no clue on what to expect on this date of sorts. Let alone the proper etiquette for the event. Been a long time since I have courted.
