Chapter 74
Mother Confessor:
Forcing my sweat soaked frame to a halt. The cloth sticking to my body. It was a good long run. Still don’t have much of a conclusion to the questions surrounding the mistreatment of the female plant creature. Nor do I have any conclusion as to the reasoning behind her dissectors motives for doing so. I despise not knowing this.
Pushing my rubbery legs into a brisk march, I head off for breakfast. The thought of the sweet tender flesh of fruit, and a glass of water sounds nice. Perhaps some toast as well.
It seems most queer as it feels like such a trek to the mess hall. It is only a fifteen minute march from the PT facilities, but at times seemed much farther. In a way it made it all the more worth the extra illusionary distance to indulge in the morning meal.
Marckus:
This will be interesting. Still descending the stairs to the armor depot in the rear of the belly of the battle ship. Foot traffic is light, and lonesome in the echoes of boots on the metal steps. Good to hear the synthetic female is doing well in her studies. I had my reservations at the time of our deal, but she has surprised me. Bet the first week was tough to get into the swing of things. That and she is very attractive physically, and probably has to deal with sexual advances from the other soldiers.
The door opens up on the armor depot, as I step off the never ending staircase. Passing through the threshold. I lean up against the catwalk railing. Scanning the vast expanse of the depot for Major Rinvon. Spying him near the maintenance station with a few of the staff going over matters of the day, between details. Crossing the catwalk to the lift on my right. Passing the many meters occasionally glancing at the busy men going about their duties. Stepping on to the lift and pushing the command for it to lower to the deck. Descending to the busy work detail below. Keeping my eyes on the Major.
Stepping from the lift as it contacts the work floor of the depot. Continuing to where the Major is addressing the others. Having to deviate from time to time to avoid being hit by the loaders moving crates of parts and tools across the depot floor. The last twelve meters to the area where the Major is, are not hindered by the need to dodge loaders. Only a few armor mechanics coming and going from the small station that I am heading to. They pay no attention to me as they go about their detail.
“Good morning, Sir”, the Major addresses me.
“Morning, Major”, I reply in kind, placing the empty mug on the console beside him. He continues going over the healthy stack of paperwork on the large clipboard.
“What brings you down here this morning”, he asks as his pen scratches on a page of the paper work.
“I would like to hear about the new private and how her training has been going”, I jump into my reason for this visit.
“That is interesting, sir”, Major Rinvon starts,” She has been progressing well with program, despite not being tested in live fire exercises.”
“How would you think she will fair in a combat situation”, I ask him.
“Well, to be honest, sir. We won’t know until she is in that position” he replies.
Sounds reasonable considering we all had to find out the hard way. Though he seems confident in her ability to pilot a war frame. There is a hesitation that I can understand in his answer.
“I suppose more to the point. Do you feel it is to soon to field test her”, I inquire further. “Sir, I think you know as well as I do that there is no such thing”, he chuckles looking up from his paperwork.
“True”, I nod in agreement.
“I would like her, and her frame loaded and ready by five hundred hours in the morning” , issuing my order in advance.
“Yes, sir”, he replies, continuing to work on the paperwork. With my mind at ease on this small matter. My next move is to have a chat with Commander Kionxxia about borrowing an armor pilot. As well as a small ship so we can set down on Mars. To conclude the errands I have there.
Graxis:
Having placed the transmission to the Council of Elders. Informing them of the hearing of Admiral Santoth, along with the charges brought against him. This is hard still with it fresh in my mind. But a traitor must face the responsibility of his actions. Even if they are an officer, and a distinguished one.
Starting to become more comfortable with the Uldivaraions and their presence. Commander Kionxxia had settled my speculation of their joining us quite well. Though Colonel Vissacca remains reluctant, despite our joint effort to belay her thoughts on the matter. It is comforting to know that they are here, in a joint strike against the Confederation and the Chairmen.
I hope the Ober-Commander finds what he is looking for, from Major Rinvon. After all the Major is one of the best armor pilots in the CAF. Saved my tail on more than one occasion. I am grateful he has helped me with my responsibility, despite my being his subordinate. Perhaps he understands the unusual circumstance, and of my approach in getting her ready for battle. Either that or it has given him a chance to pass on his prowess and abilities. The more outlandish of thoughts is that he needed to have something to preoccupy his down time. In any case he has been more than ready to be of service and teach her the skill set.
We will be upon Mars by midday tomorrow. The Ober-Commander seems keen on leaving ahead of the battleship. Not sure what his plan for getting into the Colonials airspace will be, but he must have already figured out safe passage to the red planet. All I know for certain is that he is involving my responsibility.
