Chapter 14
I woke up to a bright sun shining down into my face, I peeled my eyes open to see green pine trees sway through the sunlight casting shadows into the room. It must be mid-morning. I climbed out of bed and dressed myself into some jeans a sweater and jacket as even though the fire felt like summer the coolness outside actually felt like ice against my skin. I opened the guest room door and made my way down stairs. To some good smelling food.
I peered around the corner to find Accailia cooking up some breakfast. She didn’t know I was there till my foot creak upon the wood and she turned smiling.
“Good Morning! How did you sleep?” She asked, her accent rough against the words I understood.
I smiled back, “good though bit tired from all that dancing…” I shift wondering what I should do. “Do you guys do that every full moon?” I beginning to fumble with my clothing.
Accailia must have taken notice as another gentle smile splayed across her lips.
“Asema you can sit at the table, I am making you something to eat, please you should feel at home here.” He returned to her cooking still not having answered my question but I did sit in the wooden chair as it slightly creaked.
“And yes” she turned around again facing me, only this time sliding a plate of bacon and pancakes towards, “Every full moon, we dance to the Lycanthrope god to thank him for changing at will, it’s a celebration to him.” She made herself comfortable beside me with a tea she must have just brewed herself. Slowly sipping from it as I could see the steam come off. “I guess it would be the same when comes to holidays for Immortals, celebrating every season to the gods of Kadea and Aenar thanking them for fruitful, but” she laughs leaning in, still keeping space as I eat. “not so high up in energy like us Lycans.” She ends with a laugh as if it was inside joke.
I only smile with as my mouth full of buttery pancakes.
A door slammed and feet followed after, “Hey, you awake!” Wolf voice came from behind me.
I turned to see him flushed cheeks and wearing winter gear, such as jacket and boots. “
“Hey, I reply softly.”
He smiles and makes his way to the sink, but then turns around to the kettle that I realize was still steaming. He took it and pour himself a cup of something, turning resting his back to the counter and slowly sipping the warm content as if he been cold from the outside.
My gaze goes from him to the kitchen window to see, lightly piles of snow laid on the branches, there must have been a light snow fall after our night. A smile formed on my face thinking back to a fond memory.
“Light snow outside, guess the Lycan god wanted to cool some things down.” Wolf must have said my face from the private moment we had.
His mother just looked from him to me, and smiled herself, only to get up.
“Your father is helping the fishermen this afternoon, making sure the boats are tip top shape, I today” she looks at me again smiling, “I today will be with the ladies to talk about a few things, Brings some things to light.” Her voice like windchimes, I wanted her to talk more just so I could melt or dance to her voice.
“Sounds good” Wolf replies.
Accailia turned and walks to the door off the side that I did not know existed till now, she grabs a jacket, wrapping it around her and give me a wink. Steps out the house, causing cool air to escape inside, causing me to shiver from the coolness as I am still warming up and waking from my sleep. Before she closes the door and crunches in the snow she shouts.
“Show her around the pack, I am sure she will be grateful since she really didn’t get to see much before!” and closes the door, with soft crunch of the snow to leave behind her.
I take my last bite of pancake, and look to Wolf.
“Well last night was fun, something I think I would enjoy, if I ever get another chance again.”
Wolf smirks and leans over the table collecting my plate and silverware, and placing them in the sink with a clutter.
“Oh, I am sure” he turned back to me resuming his position on the counter crossing his arms, “That you will get another chance.
I tilted my head to his statement but shrug it off. To that he only chuckles, but goes around the table to stand in the threshold of the door, “Anyways, you wanna see the pack without it being decorated for a festival.” He offers a hand.
I looked up to him then to the hand, nodding I scrape the chair back and follow out, only to stop before the door, causing Wolf to furrow his brows together, “What?”
I looked down to my clothing, “Is what I am wearing okay? As I am not sure how or how the weather will be.”
Wolf steps back looks at me from head to toe, “Will it break wind, and do you have a toque?”
I looked down to my jacket, and eternally thought yes will break the wind, but togue I do not have.
“Yes, to the wind, no to the toque.”
Wolf nods and walks over to a closet I presume taking out a toque made of wool, “Here take mine.”
I accept and place it on my head already feeling the heat consume me. “Okay, I guess let get ready to conquer your pack, or your family’s pack I presume.”
Wolf laughs, shaking his head and reaches out to my hand that I allow him to take and we made our way outside to already filled with life.
